Everything was delicious: the peanut butter burger (fresh ground beef with no fillers.....lots of bacon....a slice of real cheddar cheese....all on an amazing fresh homemade bun), loads of crispy Darrell's fries, and the huge thick and creamy chocolate milkshake (you get it in a milkshake glass, plus the stainless milkshake cup with the leftovers). Great value for the money. Fresh, hot and tasty, quality food at reasonable prices. A great menu with both familiar and unique offerings. Our server was efficient, attentive, and naturally friendly. The place was packed - always a good sign! I highly recommend this eatery.
Omg this was my first time but will definitely not be my last we had the rocket Swiss that was recommended by the friendliest hostess whose name is Celine!!!!
By far the best burger I’ve ever had !!! Everyone was so friendly it was a pleasure to dine there!!!!
I would definitely recommend going there if you have never been!!! You will not be disappointed ❤️
Straight up my favorite burger place in the city. Great amount of options and the option to turn every burger patty into a vegetarian patty makes lives for people like me, who don’t eat beef a lot easier. The only possible thing that is holding me back from giving that 1 star is the seating inside the restaurant which could definitely be improved and being a little bit on the pricey side.
Mark's Review This burger tour takes me to the east coast, where I visit one of Nova Scotia’s favourite burger joints. Marking the third solo tour and the 40th burger joint that we’ve tagged, I will be taking you to Darrell’s in downtown Halifax. This joint brought something different and unique to the plate, so don’t miss out on this promising review. Darrell’s first opened in 1992 as ‘My Brother Darrell’. Since then, Darrell’s has won over their customers not just from the food, but from the service and hospitality. Their goal is to mould the customer experience, so that it’s personal and refined for each visit. I experienced this first hand as soon as I took my seat. The waitress that served me was from Newfoundland and knew I was from out of town. She asked where I was visiting from, and once I said “Toronto”, the conversation took off from there. I appreciated that she acknowledged who I was and where I was from, and that genuine effort over a short period made this visit even better. Darrell’s has a wide selection from their menu ranging from burgers, pitas, wraps, sandwiches, salads, poutine, and desserts. As appetizing as they all sound, I had to focus on what I came here for... the burgers!
Finally went to this place after so long!! I have to say it felt like a little piece of New York, I felt like I was back in the East Village of NYC. The food was amazing, I usually hate feta chesse but I loved it on their lamb burger & the fries no matter if it was the darrell fries or the normal fries but were amazing. A big shout out to the staff as it was amazing service for a busy Tuesday night. Also the milkshakes were amazing!!!!
I will be back for sure!!
Oh it's always full. Nothing left to say more. Lol. Today we had veggie burgers and peanut butter shake. Both were amazing and mouth watery. Oh I ate too much. One burger with fries is enough for a meal.
Do visit this place one, they have good options in burgers too. Plus they have a quick service
PS don't go after 5, or get ready to stand in long waiting.
The peanut butter burger... need I say more? Their peanut butter burger is award-winning for a reason - and all those who say they couldn't imagine eating PB on a burger definitely haven't been to Darrell's!
This is the only item that I've had at Darrell's,and although I'm all up for trying new things, I don't think I can stray from this one! Along with Darrell's fries which are also amazing, this comes up to the perfect meal to satisfy your burger craving.
Although I find that the quality of their PB burger dies down during Burger Week (you can't blame them for having to make so many of the same burger each day for 7 days), I would always be down to visit Darrell's during any other week of the year.
I have yet tot ry their milkshakes but haven't heard anything negative about them before!
Cheaper burger combos can be found in other places in Halifax - but none like the PB Burger at Darrell's!
Amazing milkshakes. Fantastic peanut butter burger and Darrell fries were great (would be even more amazing if they came with sour cream) staff were also very friendly.
I should stay away from this place but I don't think I can
Heard great things about the burgers and milkshakes at this place so here we go. . peanut butter definitely does go really well on burgers and I would have never thought! The peanut butter burger with Darrell fries is a pretty good meal and you top it off with a nice beer on tap or/AND (preferably AND) a nice seasonal eggnog milkshake with a shot of rum and you are all set for the evening. Great meal, great vibe, they got it right!
Mmmmmmm. Burgers ate really good. Potato wedges are really good and they make delicious milk shakes.
Quick service, friendly people, awesome food.
Too bad it's so crowded. Great casual spot. Perfect burger. Soooo busy though. Try to eat upstairs, downstairs is cramped, and very loud.
I've been to Darrell's many times. The food and service are always fantastic! I ordered the piggy back burger and Darrell fries. My husband had Darrell's sampler. The burger was delicious. You absolutely have to get Darrell's fries. They are Soo flavourful and crispy!
There is no argument here as to why Darrells has been voted best burger. It was juicy but not greasy and just full of flavor.
Definitely be adding it to my Halifax go to restaurants.
Went in for the burger week burger! It was delicious! The peanut butter was crunchy and melted perfectly, the bacon was the perfect combo of crunch and chewy and the burger was absolutely juicy and delicious. Also highly recommended the milkshakes, there wasn't one table I could see that didn't have one!
First time eating there over the weekend. Was there with family as my sister in law has taken us there. She recommended the peanut butter burger. It sounded weird at first but she said try it you'll love it. So I got it and the next time I'm in the city (Halifax) I'll be stopping in again. The burger was great. I'd recommend that if it's your first time eating there get the burger. If you're a big eater like me get the double. One patty for me wasn't enough with the wedges.
AMAZING burger that hit the spot. They give you 3 different bottles of Cholua hot sauce. And the wait staff were helpful and gave excellent menu recommendations 😁
After living away for a few years, when I finally moved back, a darrell's peanut butter burger was an absolute must. It did not disappoint. Burger was absolutely delicious, Wedges were fantastic and crispy all around fantastic experience. Highly recommend.
Came for lunch given the reputation. We were not disappointed. The burgers were delicious and huge. The fries are definitely unique and very crispy. The creamsicle milkshake was a huge hit. And they have paper straws!! Which was awesome to see.
The burgers are incredible. The Swiss & Mushroom burger is what you always hope for but never get at other restaurants. The Peanut Butter burger lives up to its reputation. Poutine is also a show stopper. Just go already.
(I got so excited for lunch today I forgot to take a photo - second time this has happened there. )
Update October 2022
Finally remembered to take a photo (after I added ketchup... .) It tastes as good as it looks.
The mushroom burger and the pepper burgers are also delicious.
Great portions!
The restaurant had friendly staff and a variety of burger options. I got the peanut butter and swiss cheese burgers, and they both didn't live up to the hype. The beef patties could have used more seasonings. I also ordered orea shake and peanut butter chocolate shake, which were again slightly above average. However the fries were crispy and had zero oil, and had good portions of fries and shakes.
We were seated quickly and our server was friendly, cheerful and efficient. My wife had what she described as the single best milkshake she's had in her life. Burgers were delicious and the poutine and fried pickles were amazing. Was recommended by a local and certainly lived up to the hype. A definite must when in Halifax.
