We have eaten at Nick's steakhouse for the last 40 years likely a minimum of 300 times. That is not an exaggeration. Out of all those times there may have been three meals that were not up to the usual standard or wasn't what we were expecting. The food is consistently good and when you order a steak it is the full meal deal from start to finish. I recommend Nick's for buffet, lunch or dinner.
Nick's is that family home cooking in restaurant form. Want a steak.. the best. Lasagna.. amazing and take home portion. Came on a Sunday for brunch.. holy moly the spread. Buffet for breakfast, salad and desert. Comes with a 3oz steak as well. I ALWAYS go to Nick's when I go to Calgary. Love it.
Came here after walking the dog one night. Our waiter was very friendly though I can’t remember his name. Husband and I had a pizza and pasta to share. You definitely get a lot of food for what you pay - we had to get the pasta wrapped up to go. The pizza was very good with a nice crust and good taste. The pasta was filling and hearty. Would definitely come back.
This place has been around for a long time, has a great history with the Stampeders , part of history from the 70 ,s . I have been a few times over the years since I have moved here , its plain Jane , simple fare nothing earth shattering, but there is some comfort in being able to order a steak and have it consistently cooked the way you like it, I must say I have never had a bad steak there, the decor is dated and it certainly feels like walking back in time with all the wood and dark walls ,the service is so so, it would seem they have done well over the years and they have stuck to a formula that works for them, and who can argue with that, I enjoyed it and will continue to drop by from time to time.
I love the retro feel of this place. The staff is very friendly but I wasn't so impressed with the pizza. I'm not a fan of the sweeter tomato sauce and the flavour of the toppings was a little lacklustre, but the crust was pretty good.
Let's do the Time Warp, again. Where to start? This is like stepping back into a different era, when Calgary was ALL steak and pizza and baked potatoes loaded with sour cream and chives -- chives were so exotic then, and dainty. This place was really coming of age and with it, our tastebuds. And good old Nick, your letchy uncle peering from the menu, the omnipresent Zorba the Greek and a symbol of perseverance and determination in a new, urban and swishy Alberta emerging from a half a century of religious fundamentalist rule. Just look at the hair. We can imagine the white shirt opened down to a hairy chest. Ahh, the freedom! And the memories. Yes, good old Nick's. I'm not even sure if he's dead by now, if not he's probably in some palliative care unit at the Foothills Hospital. But it doesn't matter, he'll be forever etched into the collective consciousness off all who have called this city home before oil money came in and wrecked it. Some things don't change and some things shouldn't .
Had always drove by this place going down crowchild tr.. finally got to try it with the in laws. I got the 8 oz center cut sirloin. It comes with a tossed salad, garlic toast, veggies and your choice of sides: rice, baked, mash or fries. Got the baked potato and they brought out the condiments of herbed butter, sour cream, green onion and bacon. Made the baked potato really good. The steak was marinaded well and cooked perfectly as requested medium rare. Hubby and I shared the mud pie. Would definitely come back again.
Finally decided to try this place after driving by for years. Definitely not dissapointed. The decor is 70s and true to form. I loved it. There was nothing stuffy about it. Very true to itself.
The service and the server were fantastic. We had the lamb chop and the veal. The meat was exemptional and the vegetables were perfect. The mashed potatoes were a bit bland but that was it. Enjoyed it and will be coming back.
Ordered pizza and wings. Fast delivery. Pizza pretty good, tasty, wings were frikken awesome. Would definitely order from them again. Yummy.
We; as a family of 5 visit Nick's 4 or 5 times a year, usually for a birthday or a special occasion, or just to go out for a meal, we have been visiting this restaurant for the past few years, we have always had a great experience, the food has consistently been excellent, the service is always superb, we will continue to go back to Nick's in the near future, would definitely recommend to anyone, they do have a variety of different types of food.
Omg pizza amazing! Just what I wanted! Nicks special no olives! Cheesey, tastes, homemade! Love love love exactly what I was hoping for when it comes to pizza
Some of the best pizza in town however quality and consistency varies. When it's good it's great, when it's not good it's expensive for average at best pizza.
I like the brunch buffet on the weekends too. They offer all you can eat steak!
