This is my favourite restaurant in Calgary. The flavours are amazing and the dishes can be served mild, medium, or hot. I like to get medium with hot sauce on the side because the hot sauce is delicious. Our server most times we go is a young man and he makes excellent recommendations and is not afraid to tell you if something doesn’t go as well together or if dishes are too similar and make alternate suggestions which I really appreciate. A must try in Calgary!
This place is my favourite place to go whenever I'm in Calgary - the staff practically know me by name. They have a great atmosphere and outstanding service. You can really feel the pride that comes from a family-run operation.
The food is spectacular and has subtle little enhancements like cucumber in the water to add that extra hint of refreshment. I'm a sucker for their mango chicken, but everything I've had here is top notch.
Considering the high quality of food and experience, the cost is *very* reasonable.
The only downside is that with such good food at such a low cost it's wise to get a reservation. The Himalayan is always in demand.
C and I had our annual birthday/Christmas dinner this year without L and it wasn’t the same without him. We swapped presents and everything! That being said, we did pick a great restaurant called The Himalayan on 17th Avenue and had a tasty (inexpensive) dinner, so we can’t complain!. Honestly, I was expecting the restaurant to be a little more rustic and the food to taste like something I’d never had before. But, alas, the food was filled with familiar tastes – naan bread, paneer, and lots of veggies in a tomato based curry sauce. If my eyes were closed I would have thought we were in an East Indian restaurant!
I enjoyed my dinner here very much. We had the Fish Tareko to start, which was delicious, bu the sauce was very spicy. Thankfully my years of travel to Beijing have bolstered my taste buds against spicy food. We shared a Butter Chicken as well as the Himalayan Grill with Lamb and Dal. To finish off, we shared the Mango Rice Pudding and the Himalayan Cake, which were both delicious.
Service was very good, and the price is very reasonable.
Phenomenal food, nice decor and friendly fast service ! We came on a Friday evening for a birthday and we were all pleasantly surprised and left feeling full (also thinking about what we will order next time we come!). We started with the pork mo:mo (dumping) very flavourful. Followed by 5 delicious entrees (I can’t remember the exact names): veggie, tofu, garlic chicken, lamb spinach and Chili paneer cheese. Yum yum yum ! We also had saffron rice, bread and the special coconut bread (loaded with sweet coconut). Highly recommend coming here and highly recommend ordering a little bit of everything ! We will be back.
We’ve been here multiple times & loved everything we’ve tried! Unique flavours as well as hints of Chinese & Indian cuisines. Beautiful restaurant & professional service. (5/5)
What an incredible surprise! (Didn’t know anything about this place - just drove by and saw it) Staff were extremely friendly and attentive, and the food was amazing! There were great options for spice lovers and non. I had the himalayan with lamb and the sauce was so tasty! Highly recommended!!!
Awesome Nepali restaurant! The atmosphere of the restaurant is great and very friendly service. Highly recommended the dal-bhat, a great sample of all the yummy goodness! I am definitely coming back and try out the rest of the menu!
Thoughtfully prepared food in a beautiful setting, but it didn't quite live up to the hype. We managed to snag a table by sheer luck in this impossibly busy restaurant, so I'd definitely recommend making a reservation. The service here is incredible: warm, genuine, efficient, and attentive without hovering; the staff instantly make you feel at home and definitely make your meal very enjoyable. To start we tried the pork mo:mo dumplings ($7.95 for 6 pieces) - garlicky and with a nicely steamed exterior, but slightly bland. These are almost like soup dumplings since when you cut into them a pool of oil spills out. For our mains we tried the Chicken Himalayan Grill ($20, comes with daal), Machha ko Jhol ($16), and Chicken Chau Chau ($14.50). The Chau Chau was again very garlicky and quite oily. The himalayan grill came on a sizzling plate (bonus points for exciting presentation) and the meat itself was beautifully seasoned and meltingly tender. The daal it came with was creamy and slightly sweet. The Machha ko Jhol was definitely the highlight of the meal for me: buttery pieces of basa enrobed in a slightly sweet, faintly mustard-y sauce - I'd definitely recommend it! The mains (except the Chau Chau) all come with rice, bread, and a himalayan salad. The salad was really nice - tangy and creamy. The bread was similar to naan and was fluffy and buttery. For dessert we tried the coconut tapioca cake ($4). Sweet and with a cool bouncy texture, it was a nice end to the meal. I'd definitely give this place a visit if you haven't already!
Always a great place for not only food but atmosphere and service as well. So worth the trip, so what are you waiting for?! But make reservations...it’s generally very busy!
Friendly staff, good ambiance, great food. We ordered lamb dal Bhat, grilled chicken, and shrimp bhuteko. All were great, and we like the shrimp bhuteko the best. Our server Jon was very friendly and attentive.
A great restaurant. Himalayan food is closed to Indian but it's not as spicy hot. The Indian food base is already hot, here you can choose to make it hot but by default it's not hot. It's very tasty and we tried everything. Grilled lamb was great, the curries were delicious, and the Momo's were there best. My favorites were the coconut naan and the eggplant dish. The desserts were great as well, would recommend the mango ice cream. The service was the bonus. Exceptional service to go with the great food makes this a must try.
I can definitely say that this is a great place. First time I got to taste their dishes was when I was with my mom. She and I were visiting a friend in the area. We were told to try this place since it's already lunch time and we were craving something delicious. The inside was neat and simple yet very nice and easy to the eyes with a nice ambiance. Our orders came quickly and we enjoyed our foods still warm. They were all delicious and fulfilling. We love every bit of them.
The food is very delicious, the price is reasonable, and the service is great! All waiters are super attentive! We tried medium spicy level and it was actually quite spicy (I'm confident to say I can eat very very spicy food). The Chiya black tea with spices are very exotic and tastes actually quite interesting and nice (Unlimited refill! What a nice place!) The Bhuteko Shrimp is very well balanced with eggplant tomato and onions. This is the first time I've ever try Nepali food and I love it. Would definitely visit again next time I'm in Clagary.
Great first experience for Nepali cuisine. Restaurant is well decorated and service was friendly and attentive. My favourites were the garlic naan and shrimp chau chau (egg flour noodles).
Authentic Nepalese resturant. Most resturant in calgary have Indian flavor spice base but this resturant gives Nepali flavor. Not too much spices or little less...just the perfect. Pork Momo was the best, very juicy and flavorful. Chicken chowmin was totally awesome. Grilled poleko lamb had very nice smoky flavor.
My dad treated me to a meal here and we were so amazed at how the service and foods are so good. Firstly, the place has a good ambiance and it's neat. Secondly, the foods we ordered are all delicious and fulfilling. Good portions and presentation is very appealing to the eyes. Just the look of them is already mouth watering. Service is fast and servers are nice too!
