We have eaten at Nick's steakhouse for the last 40 years likely a minimum of 300 times. That is not an exaggeration. Out of all those times there may have been three meals that were not up to the usual standard or wasn't what we were expecting. The food is consistently good and when you order a steak it is the full meal deal from start to finish. I recommend Nick's for buffet, lunch or dinner.
Nick's is that family home cooking in restaurant form. Want a steak.. the best. Lasagna.. amazing and take home portion. Came on a Sunday for brunch.. holy moly the spread. Buffet for breakfast, salad and desert. Comes with a 3oz steak as well. I ALWAYS go to Nick's when I go to Calgary. Love it.
I have had the pleasure of knowing the Petros family for many years. This family is the nicest and most caring family everybody is family to them. I am third generation of my family visiting the restaurant and it is hands down the best place to eat and drink their food is awesome!!! Love this place and I hope I can have the next three generations of my family supporting Nick's Steakhouse and Pizza.
My kids and I loved their pizza...creamy and chessy! Unlike other dry pizza I've tasted. Their servers are very friendly too. I'm not a tip person but I felt guilt if I didn't give something️ #hopetotrymoreotherrecipes
The pizza is the best in the city. Every thing on this menu is amazing. the staff are wonderful. the only problem with this place is that I don't live close to it and I dont get there as often as I would like! but every chance I get I certainly take advantage of it!
Nick's continues to be a Calgary institution.
The interior treads the line between dated and classic, and feels comfortable.
I never fail to feel welcome. I've never had a meal that was not at least good.
The staff are great, the food is great, and the pricing is good.
We’ve driven past it a thousand times and finally stopped in. We figured why not, it’s an adventure! Absolutely what you would expect. Great classic Canadian fare served old school in simple surroundings. Not your pretentious downtown restaurant with grandiose attempts at new ways to cook food. Expect just good “cheat day” kind of eating while you watch the game. We had pizza, a burger and fries, and the mussels. Nick and his son were there and seated us and were very kind and engaging. Eric the server was great. Everyone around us seemed to be enjoying themselves immensely. Just a plain fun experience for our family. We’re going to stop in now from time to time - just not too often as we’d become 600 pounds! Thanks for the great service and for reminding me what Calgary was like 25 years ago when I first moved here. Good people, good food. Keep it going!
Came for the fathers day brunch. Food was incredible and we were quite enjoying ourselves even before learning that they included steaks cooked to order included in the meal price. Very good value and the food was amazing
I went for the Prime Rib and was not disappointed!! Great portion, steak done to perfection and amazing service!!!! Will definitely be back!!!
We went to Nick's for steaks. They were the best steaks I have had in a very long time! I loved all the sides included. The potatoes were delicious as was the gravey! I would highly recommend eatinnnat Nick's!
Amazing ! The pizza was delicious and the Greek salad was the best!!!! Not to mention the chocolate peanut butter dessert omg. Incredible!!!!!
BEST PIZZA IN CALGARY!!!! The desserts are TO DIE FOR!!! We love Nick's !!! Great family place !!! Casual family dinner, getting together with friends, or a dress up staff Christmas Party... Nick's is the perfect place for it!!! I love that Nick and Mark greet you as you walk in. The 1970's Steakhouse atmosphere is welcoming and familiar. I love the food, the drinks and the staff. It's a fantastic place to eat !! I HIGHLY recommend it!!!
Best Steak Neptune and brunch by far! Been there a few times and never disappointed. Keep up the great food Nick's!
Went with friends for a New Year’s Eve dinner. Cameron, the waiter, was fun and very good. Food was just the way we wanted it. We shared the apple pie for dessert. A good size for the four of to share. For me, it was my first time there for dinner. I will be back. Thank you.
Love nick' s we have been coming here for over 30 years and can never get enough great food great service great atmosphere. They always have smiles to great you.
Absolutely always impressed with Nick's. The whole place is so cozy feeling and you instantly feel welcome when you walk in the door, often greeted by Nick himself. The food is always incredible and has a little of everything you could want and the staff is nothing short of amazing. Hands down one of our favourite places to go in Calgary
Came here after walking the dog one night. Our waiter was very friendly though I can’t remember his name. Husband and I had a pizza and pasta to share. You definitely get a lot of food for what you pay - we had to get the pasta wrapped up to go. The pizza was very good with a nice crust and good taste. The pasta was filling and hearty. Would definitely come back.
This place has been around for a long time, has a great history with the Stampeders , part of history from the 70 ,s . I have been a few times over the years since I have moved here , its plain Jane , simple fare nothing earth shattering, but there is some comfort in being able to order a steak and have it consistently cooked the way you like it, I must say I have never had a bad steak there, the decor is dated and it certainly feels like walking back in time with all the wood and dark walls ,the service is so so, it would seem they have done well over the years and they have stuck to a formula that works for them, and who can argue with that, I enjoyed it and will continue to drop by from time to time.
I love the retro feel of this place. The staff is very friendly but I wasn't so impressed with the pizza. I'm not a fan of the sweeter tomato sauce and the flavour of the toppings was a little lacklustre, but the crust was pretty good.
Let's do the Time Warp, again. Where to start? This is like stepping back into a different era, when Calgary was ALL steak and pizza and baked potatoes loaded with sour cream and chives -- chives were so exotic then, and dainty. This place was really coming of age and with it, our tastebuds. And good old Nick, your letchy uncle peering from the menu, the omnipresent Zorba the Greek and a symbol of perseverance and determination in a new, urban and swishy Alberta emerging from a half a century of religious fundamentalist rule. Just look at the hair. We can imagine the white shirt opened down to a hairy chest. Ahh, the freedom! And the memories. Yes, good old Nick's. I'm not even sure if he's dead by now, if not he's probably in some palliative care unit at the Foothills Hospital. But it doesn't matter, he'll be forever etched into the collective consciousness off all who have called this city home before oil money came in and wrecked it. Some things don't change and some things shouldn't .
Had always drove by this place going down crowchild tr.. finally got to try it with the in laws. I got the 8 oz center cut sirloin. It comes with a tossed salad, garlic toast, veggies and your choice of sides: rice, baked, mash or fries. Got the baked potato and they brought out the condiments of herbed butter, sour cream, green onion and bacon. Made the baked potato really good. The steak was marinaded well and cooked perfectly as requested medium rare. Hubby and I shared the mud pie. Would definitely come back again.
Finally decided to try this place after driving by for years. Definitely not dissapointed. The decor is 70s and true to form. I loved it. There was nothing stuffy about it. Very true to itself.
The service and the server were fantastic. We had the lamb chop and the veal. The meat was exemptional and the vegetables were perfect. The mashed potatoes were a bit bland but that was it. Enjoyed it and will be coming back.
Ordered pizza and wings. Fast delivery. Pizza pretty good, tasty, wings were frikken awesome. Would definitely order from them again. Yummy.
We; as a family of 5 visit Nick's 4 or 5 times a year, usually for a birthday or a special occasion, or just to go out for a meal, we have been visiting this restaurant for the past few years, we have always had a great experience, the food has consistently been excellent, the service is always superb, we will continue to go back to Nick's in the near future, would definitely recommend to anyone, they do have a variety of different types of food.
Omg pizza amazing! Just what I wanted! Nicks special no olives! Cheesey, tastes, homemade! Love love love exactly what I was hoping for when it comes to pizza
Some of the best pizza in town however quality and consistency varies. When it's good it's great, when it's not good it's expensive for average at best pizza.
I like the brunch buffet on the weekends too. They offer all you can eat steak!
Awesome place. Nick himself is the man and is always around the restaurant . Great food with a really cool vibe. Don't expect a Moxies this place is way more authentic and family run, locally owned. The prime rib on Sunday and Monday is exceptional.
Wow! Just wow.. Our group of 9 adults and 6 kids just had a most amazing experience at Nicks. The food was beyond exceptional. Calamari and nicks wings were recommended by our waiter and we're super yummy. Prime rib was the special and it was cooked perfectly. We all ate until we almost couldn't make it to the car.
Definitely coming back. Our waiter Patrick was phenomenal and handled our large crew with grace and humor.
Still around after all these years. Great steaks and run by a very nice family
Excellent meal at a family establishment!. This unassuming restaurant may appear as a run of the mill establishment...it is anything but! Everything we ordered was excellent and service was exceptional! As we left 'Nick' was there greeting customers....it will be a repeat visit for our family
Sunday brunch a great experience. First impressions were a little weird, since I had heard that the place is always busy. So walking in I was expecting a ton of people, not that the place was dead or anything, there were still a good number of tables and people there.
As far as the food goes though, the eggs benedict were pretty awesome (even though I got a few that didn't even have the yolk), the french toast was different but good, and the pancakes were great. The omelette station was interesting since you wrote your order down and the omelette would be brought to your table, so that was an interesting touch I hadn't seen before.
I definitely have to rave about the steak though. It was delicious and worth the price of admission alone, without all the other delicious food to go with it. I had 6 pieces and each one was cooked great and just as good as the last.
There was a good selection of fresh fruit, and was kept filled constantly so there was never that last old-looking piece that nobody wanted to take.
Our waitress was very friendly, and made the experience much better.
Will definitely be back and will tell others about the Sunday brunch here. Definitely worth checking out.
Loved Nick's. Took the family here, and we all had steaks, from the filet to the prime rib Sunday special. The food was great, and service amazing. Will definitely return!
Wears it's tradition well. The food is consistent, the service is decent, and the pricing is reasonable.
Nicks remains of the few Calgary restaurants I have never had a bad meal in. I go for the steaks, but have been happy when I've had the pizza or other items on the menu.
Time Warp. Sure the décor is stuck in the 70's but that's what makes this place so quirky! My parents have been going to Nick's for as long as I can remember and its really great for pub food, steak and pizza. The perfect spot to go for dinner before a Stampeders game!
Went for brunch. The hashbrowns were very dry. Eggs Benedict were tasty as well as the pancakes. The 2-3 oz steak is a nice addition to the buffet. Prefer to go and have dinner there. Love the atmosphere with the orangey lights... Very warming
Went for a late lunch, service was a bit slow but the pizza was excellent!
Went for Mothers Day brunch. A bit pricey but good service. Food is simple but thats the way to keep it good. I like the way they serve the brunch. Keeps things civilized and not a free for all style. Unlimited steaks a plus. Yum. Will try again for regular dinner service for sure.
Favorite steak house. Just came back from my birthday dinner at Nick's which I do every year. It's my favorite place for steak. Yes the place is a little outdated but it's in a prime location and I love their steak. Much more so than the Keg and at a lower price. After reading reviews here, we're going to try their pizza next time.
Excellent service and food. Party of 10 which included 6 kids and server never missed a beat.
I've only ever ordered pizza from Nivk's for delivery. However it's one of the best delivery pizzas I've had in Calgary. Not too thin, but not doughy either. Their house tomato sauce is delicious and tangy and I love being able to get artichokes on my pizza. Boccoccini is ok. I'd prefer it with cherry tomatoes rather than slices. I've made better at home.
A little pricey, but worth it every once in a while.
Love the pizza. We dropped by again for lunch. The prices aren't cheap but for the quality, very worth it. A small pizza (primavera) fed us both. They have about 4 types of white and red wine by the glass. Generous pours too. A solid option for pizza near the university. Consistently great service.

Pricey but delicious pizza. The restaurant itself is pretty cool - very old school and I loved the 70's interior. Service is usually extremely attentive (refills, orders, cheque brought promptly). The pizza was delicious - great crust (cooked nice crispness/tasted a little sweet which I like) and good amount of toppings. The sauce was zesty and it tasted homemade -absolutely lovely. My favourite is the primavera pizza. I also tried the Chicken Carbonara - which was very rich. A 10 inch will feed two.
Good food and steak. But... It's only good when the cooks don't screw it up. So many times have I ordered delivery and gotten raw doughy under cooked pizza and or very skimpy topping. Lasagna is good, again depends on the person who made it. Food is pricey but when It's good It's good. Now they need consistency.
AMAZING! I have never been to a better restaurant in my whole entire life. The steak sandwich melted in my mouth it was so tender and juicy. The service was amazing and you get the best portion size for your money! The atmosphere was very family oriented and cozy. I loved it!!
Love it!. RESTAURANT IS LIKE NO OTHER OUT THERE.
Food and Service fast friendly great atmospere with there
own style which you have to appreaciate, stepping back in time.Your family had awesome pizza and fabulous steak.Nick was there to great his guest and talk to us.
Will be back!
Veal great, pizza has been better, pasta not bad. They got a table for 6 in very fast and the service was very good. Kids pizza $9.99, which is way too much, so a little pricy. If that doesn't matter to you the ambiance is really nice. The place was packed so they must be doing something right.
This place rocks! Steaks are always good and I've had the pizza a couple times both at the restaurant ab delivered and it's delicious. My family has been going to nicks for twenty years and when my kids are old enough I hope they can take their kids!
Do You Like Pizza. A very busy restaurant with the best pizza in town....bar none! They have a great selection of house specials or just create your own. A friend had the peppercorn steak and says she's coming back soon. Bon Appetit!
THE ultimate of them all.. This is where you go to recharge your soul. Words do not describe this level of perfection. Papered chefs make the difference. I suggest you insist on them whilst reviewing your outings!
Don. I usually have the veal cutlet and it is ok not great just ok.
Good burgers. We ordered take-out from Nick's, opting for a mushroom burger and a cheeseburger. After a half an hour, I arrived at Nick's to pick it up.
The order was completed promptly, and delivered in a large paper bag -- full right to the top with two orders of fries, and two burgers in boxes.
The burgers themselves were excellent. The patty was thick, juicy, perfectly seasoned, and properly cooked. The bun was lightly toasted, the onions thinly sliced, the mushrooms nicely sauteed, the cheese perfectly melted. Even the pickle was good. So, hey, good all around on the burger. There was nothing innovative here, just a solid hearty burger.
The fries were sad and limp. I guess this is what happens almost inevitably with take-out fries in a bag. How can they be kept fresh and non-soggy? I don't know.
It was a bit expensive ($30 plus change) for two burgers. The fries were a bit of a waste, we mostly just threw them out. Happily, the burger was more than enough meal on its own.
I've been to Nick's inside before (not takeout) and it was also a decent meal. I'll likely go back. I'll probably even consider it again for a take-out burger.
Customer-focused. Do you remember how great customer service was 20 years ago? Nick's hasn't forgotten. Our server, Eric, was extremely attentive but not to the point of annoying. He made suggestions when we asked and was efficient.
My partner's steak was not cooked enough so another was cooked and brought to us within 10 mins. Aside from this small mixup our steaks were delicious! Due to the earlier mistake we were later informed that the dessert we ordered was on the house. We didn't even have to ask for it. Yah, that kind of great customer service.
Friday Night Dinners - Nick's. Having been in Calgary for over 20 years, I have to admit that this is the first time I've actually been inside Nick's after driving past it countless times. Alongside with two of my best friends, I finally had a chance to visit...and it was quite good!
Entering the busy eatery, we found seats in the bar area quickly and was greeted by our waitress, who took our drink orders and had them back very quickly. The fare is straightforward, uncomplicated and very extensive. And since our steak mood continued overnight, we chose the 8oz sirlon Steak Sandwich, served on a thick slice of garlic bread. My friends chose the steak and pasta with a lovely rose "Italian" sauce and the Mexican Special pizza.
The steak was done to medium as requested, and with a dust of chili was delicious. The fries and gravy with a side of veg played well together on the same plate. The pasta and the pizza looked great, but since we did not partake we can't comment on how it tasted. But we can comment on the Mud Pie dessert, which featured rich coffee and chocolate ice creams and served in huge, delicious slices.
For three people at about $89 plus tip, drinks and dessert, it was a good meal filled with a lot of comfort food. If you like your food uncomplicated and hearty, this is the place!
Decent, expensive. First time at Nick's tonight. I had lasagna (which I NEVER order, ever, anywhere) and I'm glad I did, it was very good. Really tasty, flavourful meat sauce. Everyone else in my party enjoyed their meals. The people who got steaks received them grilled to order but apparently they lacked flavour.
All in all, good experience, but I doubt I'd go back anytime soon since the prices are all quite high. It would make sense to have a few lower cost items on the menu. Although they definitely do not appear to want for patrons.
We were originally going to the keg but it was too busy so we came here. Very happy with the decision. Great steaks and good service.
Cool old decor and simple food. I almost give this place all my points just for having that super gawdy décor - it rocks. Having said that, I do reserve a few points for a nice simple meal and a pretty good selection on the menu for those prickly dinners where no one agrees on one culinary genre. My husband and I had pizza, and it was good (not the best I've had, but still good). The staff was nice too - always a bonus in this city.
Great Pizza. Awesome thick pizza, crust is unreal. Tastes great every time. Not much more to say.
