The requirements for this dinner was a restaurant serving family style dishes that isn’t a Chinese one. One that proved difficult, so we ended at this Korean chain as our best option. Their’s a venue that offered plenty of seating, larger tables, and the possibility to order a handful of different dishes to feed a larger group of eight. So this became our destination to enjoy a belated Chinese New Year dinner with extended family at.
Enjoyed my really late dinner here after a very tiring Snowshoeing activity. Loving my friends for taking me to this restaurant to satisfy our hunger!
Jang Mo Jib is located on Kingsway Burnaby. Besides the Burnaby Branch, it also has other locations Downtown. I always came to Burnaby location since it’s really convienence for me. The Jang Mo Jib is a large size of the restaurant. The servers were very friendly and helpful there. I’ve had Hotpot, Seafood pancakes and Chicken wings with my friends at this restaurant. The food always came fast and fresh. If you wanna try some traditional Korean food in Burnaby, You should definitely go to Jang Mo Jib.

I first visited Jan Mo Jib, 25 or so years ago (former Robson Street location) on the recommendation of a James Barber article. It was my first Korean food experience (thank you Mr. Barber) and I remember the wonderment at the Banchan and the confusion by the presence of scissors. It has been years since I have been (never been to the Kingsway location) but little has changed. As I entered, I was concerned that this location is a little beat up and there is a faint odour of...seafood? There was tea at my table but no one told me... Once the food arrived, my attitude changed. I ordered Goon Mahn Doo and they were great. They were seriously fried and the dipping sauce was fine. I also had Gahl Bee Tahng. The beef broth was significantly beefy and the noodles were tasty. There was a generous portion of short rib which made the dish memorable. My server was attentive as far as her duties (shredding mushrooms for the kitchen. Really, I arrived at like 2 in the afternoon) would allow.
needs renovation but food is amazing. not too expensive . best part is the condiments. you get your moneys worth. only thing i dont like here is the salad dressing which i believe doesnt match the salad they are serving..
The best menu in this restoran is the bone soup gam ja tang. We tried both in burnaby and the one in the robson street both have the same taste wich is good and very consistent.
Stopped by Jang Mo Jib on Kingsway road in Burnaby for Korean comfort food. Had the pork ribs + potato hot pot and thee portions of all their sides. The ribs were soooooo tender fall off the bone. Soup and meat salted and seasoned just right. Wish the hot pot was paired with ramen, and not rice though. I asked for medium for spicy level, but i should have gone for their highest level - spicy. I like it when you are eating Korean and you feel like you’re breathing fire! My favourite side when I went was the spicy radish cubes. I also ordered the bibimbap but nothing special and honestly not a lot of meat. Will skip that next time and order another hot pot instead!
My first try at a korean food is very posibly this restaurant, i don't even remember when and where, but i do remember i used to love jang mo jib a lot, because it's way different food from where i have tasted, the gam ja tang is trully a spectacle to behold, a pork bone soup, oh my goodness very delicous indeed, and the wings, the bulgogi, man... i know this one is all fairly new to me at the time, now as time have progressed, i felt jang mo jib is still a decent eating option for me for a more pricier korean food, yea i still wonder why is korean food really expensive. anyhow, the taste of the food is definitely not bad, and overall i still kind of am okay with korean food.
We were in the Metrotown area, and decided to grab lunch at Jang Mo Jib. This is a local chain of Korean restaurants with locations in downtown Vancouver and south Burnaby (the location in Richmond closed in 2013). The menu is fairly expansive. This is cooked short grained rice, pressed into a very hot oil lined stoneware bowl, topped with blanched spinach, bean sprouts, assorted preserved vegetables, slivers of stir fried beef and fried egg with hot chilli paste served on the side. The hot oiled bowl causes the cooked rice to form a crunchy toasted layer around the edges (what the spanish would call a socarrat). Mixed with the other ingredients and the chilli paste, this rice dish has a crunchy, savory, spicy harmony going on.

Due to my recent obsession with Korean dramas (don’t worry, now that school started, it’s all under control), I’ve been having intense craving for Korean food. One of my go-to places now is Jang Mo Jib. Despite living nearby, I wasn’t a frequent until this summer, but it quickly became one of my favourites.
