First time ordering delivery from them. I was pleasantly surprised not only how fast it came but the quality of the food. Really great salt and pepper squid and wor wonton soup. Will order again from them!
Delicious good food. A small restaurant with great food at a decent price. Service is quick and efficient. We had the fish. The food is delicious! However the Chinese food ordered by folks sitting near us looked and smelt inviting. We will try those menu items on our next visit.
Kept hearing about the really good Fish n Chips here and so I finally tried the cod (with a caeser salad instead of chips) and the cod was really good. I even ate the batter. That's usually the fail for me and deep fried fish but theirs was just fine!
Everything except for the burgers!. Everything about this place rocks except for the burgers! They have fish'n chips, Chinese food, and burgers. Most of it is really good and really good prices. They have really good deep fried and grilled halibut (I don't eat cod so I cant comment on it). They don't use to much batter and it doesn't fluff up and crisp into a huge shell so I can actually eat it without it exploding all over my table and they give you a regular amount of fries. The Chinese food is also amazing, I had it a few times with some family and they all agreed. Portions were large-ish, everything tasted really good! - Just don't get the beef burger, it was grey, not browned, veggies were wilted, bun was a regular Thrifties bun, nothing special at all and I threw half of it away. I love this place and go back all the time.
Haven't tried their Chinese food but I am a HUGE fan of their halibut fish n chips!! Sooooooo good!!!! :)
Great food! I have never eaten inside this place, however, would never order Chineese food anywhere else! Delivered hot fast and priced just right. They have the most incredable way of cooking breaded almond chicken. All around great food!
Best Chinese in Victoria. My girlfriend and I have been coming here for years. Benjamin is a great host and makes for a really pleasurable dining experience. The menu offers a great range of traditional Chinese dishes and all food is promptly prepared in the busy open concept kitchen next to the dining room. I've found there's a huge range of quality in Victoria for Chinese food and a good spot is hard to find. I was very happy to find this place.
Great food, great service, great price!. I'm so impressed with this little place - such a hidden gem in James Bay. I've never ordered fish & chips here, but the Chinese food is great. It's fresh, tasty, and not nearly as greasy as other Chinese food that I've had. I don't crave Chinese food often, but when I do, this is where I'll eat. :)
Delicious. Clean, non greasy and delicious food in massive amounts. Always at the top of the who to order from list.

One of the reasons I miss James Bay. Growing up in Alberta I developed a love for ginger fried beef. I have been on a quest to find the best ginger beef in Victoria and mostly have been extremely disappointed and occasionally grossed out. This place is an exception, their ginger beef is perfectly chewy without being too tough, and the batter is nice and crispy but not too thick. The only down side is the sauce is just their basic sweet and sour sauce spiced p with lots of ginger and chili peppers. It's still very tasty, and I didn't clue in until I once ordered both ginger beef and sweet and sour pork together. The dumplings are also delicious, and the other dishes I've tried have been pretty good too (although I would primarily go there to satisfy my ginger beef craving).
The fish and chips are decent, certainly not the best in the city but far from the worst.
The owner/manager who is always at the till is very friendly. If you become a regular he will learn your name and give you an enthusiastic getting when you walk through the door to pick up your order.
I miss James Bay!!!
James Bay Fish and Chips is the epitome of greatness. They blend food and flavours in a way that creates magic like none other. They pack your order with so much rice, so much pork, so much chow mein, that you’ll eat for days. Also they’re super nice and courteous business.
Been going here for 7 years and they have had some ups and downs. It's still always delicious and ever since the daughter took over its even better! Ordered delivery tonight and everyone loved it! Deff recommended (Chinese food only)

Unassuming hole-in-the-wall neighbourhood kinda place in the heart of James Bay - itself the heart of Victoria... or maybe the brains?! Not to worry about zombies though, only "Chinese & Western food" in the classic style. Not sure about the latter side of things - or the fish and chips
Good tasting food at a fair price. Highly recommend the calamari. The white fish was also delicious. The soup was not to my taste but my friends enjoyed it. The best part is the service- so friendly and accommodating. Also the green beans in black bean sauce are to die for. Thank you! Happy new year!

The only negative reviews are for fish and chips — don’t get them! Order the Chinese food.
They have in-house delivery and sometimes I get my food in as little as 20 minutes.
Delicious food! I've only ever tried the Chinese as I'm not big into Fish & Chips. The staff are very kind, polite & their prices are unbelievable. Combo A for 1 person is my go-to! :)
