This little cafe tucked away in Cook St Village has been on my radar for awhile. Menu is local and organic, and mainly vegetarian with lots of vegan options. Tried the daily sandwich special: maple tempeh focaccia sandwich + lentil soup. Full sandwich and small soup came to $16. Bit pricey. However, meal was fresh and delicious. Flavour combination for sandwich was very good with thinly sliced apple and avocados, and soup was hearty and filling with lots of veggies. A great place to eat after a walk along Dallas Rd or Beacon Hill, especially if craving something nutritious and delicious.
Stopped for lunch here while on vacation. Delicious! Had egg salad sandwich with avacado, curry soup, green salad. Flavors were perfect, portions good, food quality great. Highly recommend it...
Enjoyed the yellow coconut curry soup ... very filling and tasty. Hubby had the BBQ chicken sandwich and the red seafood chowder. He didn't like the chicken too much - boiled chicken trenched in bbq sauce was how he described it. Also, the chowder was not as good as the curry soup ... maybe because it was only lukewarm?!
Get a quickie!! Who doesn't like a quickie in the am?. Delicious! I was never a fan of breakfast sandwiches until i went to hot and cold! outstanding!! Owner chef operated business are always the best, especially when the owner hires chefs that are passionate about what they do.

Do yourself a favor at eat here!. The Hot and Cold Cafe is mine and my friends favorite! The staff is super friendly and wonderful! The food is amazing, soups, sandwiches and salads, some of the best in Victoria. They make their focaccia bread fresh in house and serve all the sandwiches on it. My favorite menu items would have to be the baked brie sandwich, yellow curry coconut soup and the goddess salad. The prices are very reasonable and fair too. This place is amazing and I love it so much! Highly recommended to anyone!
So Good!. The yellow curry soup is amazing. I am salavating thinging about it! The Godess Salad is so fresh, delicious and yummy! The restaurant is cute, small, clean and lovely. The staff have been wonderful.

Fantastic. Located in beautiful Cook Street Village. We ordered the curry soup with a salad. The soup was made in house, full flavored and delicious. The salad was fresh, crisp and the house made dressing was yummy. The staff was friendly, the place cozy, and the prices very reasonable. What a delight to find this place! Definately will be back!
Shockingly Good. Literally the best soup I've ever had in my entire life. I would almost say it was too flavourful except that the flavour was so unbelievably perfect that it was welcome :) I had a traditional corn beef sandwich that was fantastic (some would complain not enough meat but once they taste the perfectly in-house roasted beef, they will certainly quiet down). My girlfriend had a creamy almond veggie sandwich with in-house made almond mayonnaise that was also delicious. They use seasoned focaccia bread for the sandwiches that was fluffy, delicious, and fresh. Best soup and sandwiches we've found anywhere.
Oh and a side note to Old Cook. You are clearly a troll or a jealous competitor. I guarantee the chef at Hot and Cold could cook circles around you any day :)
Incredible Food. If you are looking for a $5 run of the meal sandwich and a $3 cup of bland Campbell's soup this place is not for you. However, if you want carefully prepared food with wholesome ingredients and tons of flavour you will not be disappointed. Highly reccommended. Vegan, Gluten and Vegetarian friendly as well as meat and dairy options. Something for everyone including the kid's pizza or grilled cheese :) (Not sure about the previous soup portion comment - you can order a cup of soup or a bowl of soup and the portions are exactly what I would expect and the flavors are great, especially the Yellow Coconut Curry and Chicken Broth soup)
Totally recommend! Great menu, intimate interior, and the yellow curry soup with root vegetables is worthy of soup nazi recipes in the armoire. Salad was also very fresh, loved the spicy tahini dressing. Worked great with the apple and sprouts, yum yum yum. Wish I had found this place when it opened.

I’ve been here three times for the chicken soup with rice. I really enjoy it and its a great portion for the price.

We weren’t sure if this is where we wanted to stop for lunch, but we were glad we did! The staff was very helpful and enthusiastic about our menu choices, and gave us a good timeframe for when we’d get our food.
The curried egg sandwich was fresh and light, made with their house-made bread. The salad was also really nice and very tasty. Glad we stopped in for a bite!
It took me way too long to try some of the sandwiches here, but now I cannot be stopped. The Creamy Almond Veggie and Sweet Chili Chicken sandwiches are so fresh and delicious, it's everything you can ask for in a sandwich. The soup and salads look very yummy as well, so can't wait to try them. You will find me on the outside street patio with my dog on too many days of the week. Watch out around this time of year, the beautiful tree out front, will pelt you in the head with it's little spiky green acorn thingys.
the staff was so sweet, friendly n helpful!! she was aware that i’m vegan n celiac n even showed me which brand of smoky tofu they are using! lots of vegan n gluten-free options🤍 smoky tofu w sweet chilli sauce sandwich w gf bread was so yum! i’m impressed that gf bread option is free to swap!
This is the perfect stop for a quick bite while you’re out running errands or doing homework. I tried the chicken pozole and a slice of the banana bread. The soup was absolutely amazing! I got a cup of the soup and you have an option for a side of bread or rice. I tried the bread and it was so fresh and went great with the soup. The banana bread wasn’t the best, it was a little tough to bite into, but I did order it in the afternoon. The cafe itself has only a few tables for mostly groups or two, but many seemed to be available when I went. Will definitely be stopping by again!
My partner and I were looking for a quick bite and decided on this place as they offer ample GF options. Needless to say, the food was AMAZING. I ordered half of the creamy avocado sandwich and a cup of yellow coconut curry soup - both were beyond delicious. The server at the counter was also friendly, and the service was fast!
I will definitely be stopping by next time I am on the island, and maybe one day, they can franchise out to the lower mainland 😉.
Great food, healthy and well presented. Lots of vegetarian and vegan choices as well as gluten free available. Staff have been very helpful and friendly every visit.

Fantastic little spot, one of my new favourites in town. Super fresh and delicious food and a warm and friendly environment.
I had the Baked Brie sandwich with chicken and a green salad with the miso sesame dressing. All of it was top notch.
