Much to my delight, I received a call last week from one of the two co-founders of Memphis Blue BBQ (MBBBQ) - George Siu. He felt it was time for their magnificent BBQ emporium - to give back to the front line nurses and surgeons who work tirelessly and endlessly, to help keep patients alive in this time of COVID - 19 crisis !
He offered to provide lunch for the Emergency Surgical Staff at MSJ Hospital in Vancouver - who it should be known - has been open during this global pandemic - to provide a hospital venue for urgent and emergency surgery. Kudos go out to George and Park for providing absolutely the best BBQ food available in Canada - to keep the staff on top of their game, ready to rock n roll during any surgical disaster in this world crisis situation.
I have a bit of a personal experience with true BBQ, as I trained for 72 hours under the watchful eye of a seven time participant in the Annual Jack Daniel’s World Championship Invitational Barbecue in Lynchburg, Tenn., which has been running for 31 years. I have visited multiple BBQ restaurants throughout the planet - including 11 in Nashville, 4 in Memphis, 4 in Dallas, three in Austin, 2 in Portland and one in both Stockholm and Munich. I regularly use my Cookshack smoker, my house favourites being pulled pork and ribs that make the friends keep coming back for more.
Every now and then I treat myself to the premium product coming out of Memphis Blues BBQ, right here in Western Canada, and I gotta say that they are hitting it out of the park. The best way for me to judge a BBQ joint, is firstly to see their BBQ pit area-and I gotta say-the MBBBQ set-up is like a low and slow BBQ nirvana, with dishes that compare or exceed the best in the business. Every time I chow down on their BBQ sauce, beans, pulled pork or ribs - I am flying high in my Michelin 3 star comfort zone, giddyup! But truth be known, their BBQ sausage hands down blows away any sausage I have had anywhere on the planet, bar none ....double giddyup with a whack of the killer MB BBQ sauce slathered on top!!
George and Park - our emergency surgery staff at Mount Saint Joseph's Hospital in Vancouver is proud to enjoy and brag about the virtues of your world class BBQ, anytime, anyplace - thanks loads to you 2 transcendent BBQ visionaries !!!
Everyone knows the foodie scene in Vancouver has exploded over the past few years and is growing stronger and stronger by the minute. It’s really great to know that certain events, festivals, and opportunities on the east coast are now slowly starting to trickle here to the west. Take U-Feast for example, it’s a very successful pop-up dining experience from Toronto where they bring together foodies to wine and dine in an intimate and exclusive setting.
Elvis platter: The Elvis platter is meant to share for 6 people, which is what we did! Our eyes were wide and our stomachs were ready to devour this platter. It came with BBQ chicken, ribs, beef brisket, pulled pork, ribends, sausage and beans, cole slaw, and potato salad as the sides.
came here during a holiday night, and it was awesome, the amount of meat and the flavour that is made in to be very very enjoyable. definitely something that i will come back and feast with a high expectation :D the meat were tender and the flavour of each different meat is distinguishable as well.
Great Customer Care...a rack of ribs we ordered as take away turned out overcooked. I called Miranda at the Robson Street branch. She apologized and personally cooked one for us. Highly recommended...
It's like I died, went to heaven, but then the great big flying monster in the sky realised it's not my time yet, so he sent me to Memphis Blues instead. Seriously, our platter had so much delicious meat on it! Pulled pork, brisket, smoked chicken, ribs, rib ends...I'm drooling with a mental food boner just thinking about it. It would get a 5/5 but there was just a lot of filler on the platter. Otherwise, a damn good meal! Highly recommended. Tam D
This place is absolutely amazing! I tried to order some briskets and pulled pork on Just-eat online earlier today, but unfortunately the website didn't allow me to order them by pound. So I ended up ordering a sandwich, which was amazing btw! And the manager was so nice that she threw in some briskets on the house! I will definitely come back for more!
Okay, as far as BBQ in Vancouver goes, Memphis Blues is near or at the top of the list. If you're from the Southern U.S., you're going to be disappointed, but overall it's still a pretty good BBQ joint. Not many places in Vancouver serve this kind of food. The portions are pretty generous, the meat menu is extensive but the sides are limited, though my go-to is the brisket and fries. I think the po' boys can be better (tend to be a little dry) and their house BBQ sauce is good in smaller doses.
Its pretty good for vancouver but lots of places in the states do it better. they also just boosted their prices, so their already pricey menu got pricier.
I've never been disappointed eating here. The portions are huge, always left overs to take home. The brisket, pulled pork and ribs are the best I've had in the city. Plus the service is awesome. What's not to love?
