Much to my delight, I received a call last week from one of the two co-founders of Memphis Blue BBQ (MBBBQ) - George Siu. He felt it was time for their magnificent BBQ emporium - to give back to the front line nurses and surgeons who work tirelessly and endlessly, to help keep patients alive in this time of COVID - 19 crisis !

He offered to provide lunch for the Emergency Surgical Staff at MSJ Hospital in Vancouver - who it should be known - has been open during this global pandemic - to provide a hospital venue for urgent and emergency surgery. Kudos go out to George and Park for providing absolutely the best BBQ food available in Canada - to keep the staff on top of their game, ready to rock n roll during any surgical disaster in this world crisis situation.

I have a bit of a personal experience with true BBQ, as I trained for 72 hours under the watchful eye of a seven time participant in the Annual Jack Daniel’s World Championship Invitational Barbecue in Lynchburg, Tenn., which has been running for 31 years. I have visited multiple BBQ restaurants throughout the planet - including 11 in Nashville, 4 in Memphis, 4 in Dallas, three in Austin, 2 in Portland and one in both Stockholm and Munich. I regularly use my Cookshack smoker, my house favourites being pulled pork and ribs that make the friends keep coming back for more.

Every now and then I treat myself to the premium product coming out of Memphis Blues BBQ, right here in Western Canada, and I gotta say that they are hitting it out of the park. The best way for me to judge a BBQ joint, is firstly to see their BBQ pit area-and I gotta say-the MBBBQ set-up is like a low and slow BBQ nirvana, with dishes that compare or exceed the best in the business. Every time I chow down on their BBQ sauce, beans, pulled pork or ribs - I am flying high in my Michelin 3 star comfort zone, giddyup! But truth be known, their BBQ sausage hands down blows away any sausage I have had anywhere on the planet, bar none ....double giddyup with a whack of the killer MB BBQ sauce slathered on top!!

George and Park - our emergency surgery staff at Mount Saint Joseph's Hospital in Vancouver is proud to enjoy and brag about the virtues of your world class BBQ, anytime, anyplace - thanks loads to you 2 transcendent BBQ visionaries !!!

Everyone knows the foodie scene in Vancouver has exploded over the past few years and is growing stronger and stronger by the minute. It’s really great to know that certain events, festivals, and opportunities on the east coast are now slowly starting to trickle here to the west. Take U-Feast for example, it’s a very successful pop-up dining experience from Toronto where they bring together foodies to wine and dine in an intimate and exclusive setting.

Elvis platter: The Elvis platter is meant to share for 6 people, which is what we did! Our eyes were wide and our stomachs were ready to devour this platter. It came with BBQ chicken, ribs, beef brisket, pulled pork, ribends, sausage and beans, cole slaw, and potato salad as the sides.

Great Customer Care...a rack of ribs we ordered as take away turned out overcooked. I called Miranda at the Robson Street branch. She apologized and personally cooked one for us. Highly recommended...

It's like I died, went to heaven, but then the great big flying monster in the sky realised it's not my time yet, so he sent me to Memphis Blues instead. Seriously, our platter had so much delicious meat on it! Pulled pork, brisket, smoked chicken, ribs, rib ends...I'm drooling with a mental food boner just thinking about it. It would get a 5/5 but there was just a lot of filler on the platter. Otherwise, a damn good meal! Highly recommended. Tam D

This place is absolutely amazing! I tried to order some briskets and pulled pork on Just-eat online earlier today, but unfortunately the website didn't allow me to order them by pound. So I ended up ordering a sandwich, which was amazing btw! And the manager was so nice that she threw in some briskets on the house! I will definitely come back for more!

Okay, as far as BBQ in Vancouver goes, Memphis Blues is near or at the top of the list. If you're from the Southern U.S., you're going to be disappointed, but overall it's still a pretty good BBQ joint. Not many places in Vancouver serve this kind of food. The portions are pretty generous, the meat menu is extensive but the sides are limited, though my go-to is the brisket and fries. I think the po' boys can be better (tend to be a little dry) and their house BBQ sauce is good in smaller doses.

Its pretty good for vancouver but lots of places in the states do it better. they also just boosted their prices, so their already pricey menu got pricier.

I've never been disappointed eating here. The portions are huge, always left overs to take home. The brisket, pulled pork and ribs are the best I've had in the city. Plus the service is awesome. What's not to love?

Meat Feast. Memphis Blues is an extraordinarily tasty meat feast. My friend needed a break from his vegetarian girlfriend so we stole away to Mr.blues. We order the giant sampler platter that covered most of the menu.

My god the meat was delicious...so moist and rich, falling off the bones and oozing greasy BBQ juice. Sausage, rib, chicken, etc...loved it all. After eating the entire thing we felt disgusting.

We love your meat Memphis Blues, but we aren't monster carnivores..get some clean veggies mixed in there to placate the stomach. If you're susceptible to heart burn be sure to bring your travel baking soda to fuzz up the acid.

The eclectic americana rock decor is what I'd expect for the name and food. Prices seem fair for the what you get.

In Summary, this is a delicious once-in-a-while meat feast.

Great flavor and atmosphere. This little BBQ house on the drive has everything you could want from a barbecue place so far removed from its namesake. The portions are huge, and the ribs are tender and juicy. Their pulled pork sandwiches are equally brilliant in flavor. The BBQ sauce could use a little punch but that is just personal preference.

Service was okay, but the atmosphere was fantastic. The music and decor did all it could to take you on a trip back in time. Overall the whole experience was a real treat for the senses.

...Mister and I have always strolled past. We are neither from Tennessee, nor are we BBQ connoisseurs, but everyone loves charred meat. Interior: clean and comfy seating that can seat many. TV available for those who are less adept at dinnertime chatter. Service: friendly, helpful staff. Food: We ordered the giant platter (in our defense, we took some home. Also, it is probable that one of us was slightly inebriated). The meat was remarkably fall-off-the-bone good. The sides were fine- the beans being my least favourite, though they did have a good consistency. Price: I felt it was reasonably priced, considering the sheer amount of meat involved. Overall, a delish eating experience. Recommended.

I didn't know I could eat that much meat!. Best BBQ in Vancouver. The platters are perfect for a party. I love the pulled pork sandwiches. There cornbread and coleslaw accompany perfect ribs. An added bonus is the meat comes in metal take-out dishes so I can grab it on my way home, take it on the skytrain, and pop it in the oven to keep warm while I get the table (or TV trays!) ready. Awesome for a picnic too!

Good BBQ joint. Had the Elvis platter along with some BBQ Poutine.

Both were pretty good with plenty of meat to go around for six people.

There's not a lot of space so bringing a bigger party than us might not work out too well on a busy night.

Yum. For a student, its a bit pricy BUT i appriciate that this place gives real slabs of meat.. and good meat costs money. I shared a combo with a friend (ribs and briskit) and we were completely full. this is a cheaper option because when the bill is split, it come to around $13 plus you get more variety :)

A smokey piece of meaty heaven. I have a soft spot for southern cooking, not to mention smoked food. I am a meatatarian through and through and this joint is off the hook!

I work not too far away, and frequent this place on a regular basis, probably twice a month. We have also had a few work lunches there, and my co-workers and I often leave full and happy.

My personal favorite- the smoked baked beans and pulled pork sandwich. The rib ends are great too!

If you like southern bbq- then this place is for you. It's not down home southern... but it's a hell of an alternative!

Amazing. I like Memphis Blues, and the Conmercial Drive location is the best of them. Plus they deliver now, and it is fantastic to have a delivery choice other than pizza. We like to get their Memphis Feast, it is a great deal. Enough food for several days!

SO awesome. I love BBQ so this was right up my alley. Just frickin finger licking deliciousness!!
Ordered the memphis platter, the meats were real good. the brisket was by far my favourite with the ribs and pulled pork right close behind.
I was however very disappointed with the potato salad, it tasted a little off. The beans were also delicious.
Either way I will definatly be begging to come back here.. Open a location in New West!! prefer right in the queensborough landing!

Pulled pork poutine??? Yes please!. This place is frikkin awesome... where else would you get a poutine consisting of pulled pork, seasoned fries, homemade BBQ sauce and cheese? But - the best is if you go with a group of ppl and order one of the platters (Memphis, Priscila or Elvis) so you can try everything they have to offer practically. My fav is definitely the pulled pork with the brisket coming a close second. They've also got some great beer on tap as well as Boylans soda - if you cant have alcohol (poor you). Another nice touch - I love ordering/paying up front. When ur hungry you dont care how much you pay! That way you can just leave when ur done... (dont forget the doggy bag).

Nom nom nom nom. Nom.. So my father is a Southern boy, born and raised in Atlanta Georgia. We took him to Memphis Blues for the experienced opinion. His conclusion? Yummy!

Come hungry. If you have a few friends, get one of the platters. The sides are also delicious, although I find their cornbread to be a little too sweet. Extra sauce will help.

The only bad thing I can say about Memphis Blues is that I usually eat way too much of it and feel a little gross afterward. I only go once or twice a year due to this, but boy is it worth it.

Great eats!. We visited this location on a busy Saturday night. With a short line ahead of us, we decided to order take-out instead. Our food was fresh and ready in 10 minutes. We rushed home to enjoy our food and it was finger licking good. We had the 1/2 slab of ribs along with the catfish po' boy...pretty much what we order everytime we go there! The catfish po'boy is my favourite fish sandwich ever! The ribs were yummy and the beans were the best I've ever had as well. They had a really wonderful smokey taste to them. We were extremely satisfied and we'll definitely be going back soon!

Legit. All I can say is this - I grew up in Alabama (!) where we are serious about BBQ. I'm amazed how good Memphis Blues is given where in the world we are. And so simple and cheap, which is required for good BBQ places. Love it.

Get ready to be stuffed. It seems to me that only on the Drive can you find a place with stick-to-your-ribs meat meat meat galore in the smokehouse style, matched up with one of BC's best wines, Joie. But you can find it at Memphis Blues BBQ.

This is an authentic, Memphis style smokehouse rib and beef place. They look down their noses at vegetarian / vegans though maybe not as much as they used to, and that's fine by me, there's plenty of vegan / veggie places on the Drive.

Inside here, you're going to find meat. Lots of it, and all extremely well made, prepared and served. I usually go for the sandwich of the day (stuff like pulled pork, chicken, sometimes rarities like duck or lamb) plus slaw and cornbread. It's messy, it's authentic, it's gastronomically pleasing, (well, to a point - you can get an upset stomach eating here, only because everything tastes so good, and the portions are so huge, you tend to overeat). Love the paper towel rolls on the tables, along with the no-nonsense yet friendly service.

Twice, I had a huge group (5 people, including a dude weighing 400lbs, and second time with 6 people) and we ordered the infamous "Elvis Platter" That's pretty much everything on the menu except for the catfish, and big servings of it all, on a huge platter. Both times, try as we might, we couldn't finish it all. All for $70 - insane value when feeding that many.

My favourite is getting a side of the sausage. It's long smoked and cooked, and some of the best sausage I've tasted, ready made and cooked, in this town.

"Memphis Blues" is Frenchy's all time favorite restaurant. It took me 2 years to get him in because he didn't believe in the higher price for a casual night out. But after his first meat feast he was hooked. This is one of those few times you are truly paying for what you get. Ask anyone who has ever been, they have only good things to say about the food and portions at "Memphis Blues". On top of being excited to go. There are 3 locations in Vancouver and I have frequented all. They are pretty consistent from one to another. Similar decor style, preparation of food, and friendly staff. The layout is simple. Tables lined in columns. Art indicative of the south. Pictures depicting jazz and soul music, and saxophones being held at 45 degrees. And the occasional delicious pig referenced in novelty. Everything is self serve from picking out your drink from the fridge, to packing up your own left overs. You choose your table then head to the cash to order. I always

Everyone knows in Vancouver, when you're having a 'meat day', you go to Memphis Blues BBQ . I didn't really have a 'meat day' when I visited the Commercial Dr. location, all I know was I really wanted a pulled pork sandwich. My friends arrived a little after 7pm, and I forgot for a second that we had to order the food at the cashier and find seats ourselves. When I got to the cashier, I ordered a small Pulled Pork Sandwich ($7.95). The sandwich came to my table in about 5 minutes after I ordered. The sandwich came in a basket with coleslaw and BBQ pit beans. Between the buns, there was a good amount of pulled pork on my sandwich, meat was sitting on a bed of coleslaw, and topped off with a generous amount of BBQ sauce. The pork was really tender, and moist, and the BBQ sauce was great. I liked the coleslaw in the sandwich, it added a nice crunchy texture. The whole sandwich was moist, it had a bit of sweetness from the BBQ sauce, and the smoki
