This review is for the newly opened Poutinerie in Mackenzie Cafe at SFU. I was pretty lucky and won a gift certificate from the Dining Hall. My first impression when the guy handed me the poutine behind the red banner was WOW, it's loaded with toppings! All that bacon and cheese! It was filled to the top and because I need eat it somewhere, I had to press down the sides of the box to seal it (that's why it's a bit flat in the picture). An important note is that IT'S FREAKING HOT! Bring some tissues or you'll be like me handling it like a hot potato. Now to the evaluation of the poutine. There's several layers to this wonderful poutine. The basis-- Fries. Oh, these fries are SOO good. They're not so "Soggy" to the point it's just a blob. To the last bite, I was able to hear the crunchiness of the fries. Their fries are really good. Now the gravy, I would say that my poutine had the perfect amount of gravy. It was enough to melt the cheese curd, but not too much to soggy up the fries. It was super savory, not diluted like the breakfast station one. It had a super turkey? some sort of poultry flavor to it which I love. Now to the toppings! Like I mentioned, it was well worth the 8.99. The bacon, cheese and chicken... yum. The chicken was tender and grilled to the point that it had a bit that "grilled" taste to it, not something that's just frozen and reheated. Now the ranch boost the overall taste by adding a bit tart to the chicken and gravy. It was awesome.
Will come back again or visit the store for other flavors. Impressed.
Favourite place to come after concerts at the vogue. Decent selection of flavours plus hefty servings of poutine equals a delicious greasy snack of meal!
Any place that serves a veggie gravy for poutine instantly gets extra points for me. And they get even more stars if they make it well. Been here a few times and have tried almost of all of their veggie poutine choices. Loved each one of them so far. I love the fact that their gravy is not overly salty -- something I can't say about Belgian Fries on Commercial Drive.
Poutines!! Había que probar la comida típica de Canadá.. yo soy de la idea que las papas fritas con todo quedan bien. En éste caso pedimos una poutine de bacon y otras de prime beef deluxe, si bien ambas eran ricas las papas fritas no estaban muy buenas, les faltó crunch!
We love coming to Smokes to try the different kinds of poutine they offer. Toppings are slathered on, so you'll always get a bite of everything with your fries.
Amazing poutine!! I loved the double pulled pork poutine. Not sure why the reviews weren't great.. I will definitely be coming back!
Delicious!. I have only eaten here a couple of times, but I love this place! I have tried the Prime Beef Deluxe and Philly Cheese Steak (with the cheese sauce on the side) and both were delicious. Squeaky cheese curds, crispy fries, gravy that's not too salty and delicious toppings. If I weren't so concerned about the health effects of consuming poutines, I'd definitely eat here more often. I love the variety and quality that Smoke's offers.
We rolled up and ordered a pulled pork poutine. This place has a large variety of speciality poutine. Our order was made fresh. Fries were crispy, cheese was perfect and gravy and pork was salted well. Order was reasonable for its price of $7. Tables were a bit unclean.
Pork goodness. There are great options on the menu, I was surprised to even see an option with vegetarian gravy, however I am not here for that. I had the triple pork which was pretty good, it had cheese curds (duh) gravy, sausage, bacon and pulled pork, such an amazing combo! the sauces they have at the condiment bar were great too, i think i had one that was like a chipotle mayo?? Price was good too at $7.99, however this is reflected in the portions of curds and meat you receive. Still its good!
