I decided to come here as a change from my usual, little sheep mongolian. Both have their own pros, but this place surely didnt disappoint. I was having a late dinner so it was nice that they have late hours almost every day! All the food was great and the service was decent, overall i would definitely come back.
Let's get Fatty!. Hot pot is an amazingly delicious and social way of dining out for those of you new to it. For newbies, you receive a pot and a table top convection burner that you cook your own food in. Meat, seafood, veggies, noodles and tofu are all game!
You have your own personal slotted hot -pot ladle so you can "fish out" your food. All the food can be dipped in sa-cha (brill based bbq sauce, very delicious), chili oil, peanut sauce or sesame oil or soy sauce.
For the AYCE option, it's $20 per person and the broth are an addition $7-8, which is totally worth it. The Tom Yum soup base was delish: fragrant, spicy and tart.
Food: Fresh ingredients: the oysters are included in the AYCE menu and it's a must have for oyster lovers. My eyes were bugging out because they were SO plump and unbelievable fresh. The shrimp (with heads still intact) were also plump and succulent. The basa filets were also good. Dumplings were a nice small size, perfect for faster cooking and tasty. Fish and meatballs were a bit on the chewy side, so not my faves. The meats were tender tasty as well, but I'm more of a seafood person.
Ambiance: Well lighted, new and modern decor and comfortable chairs.
Service: Efficient and timely. Tea and hot pot fluid were both refilled at regular intervals and empty plates, dirty bowls, and plates were taken away and replaced promptly. Near the end of our 2 hour mark, they came around with the mango pudding (yum!) for dessert. They take cash or debit only.
Value: Good! Lots of variety, good quality fresh seafood. Lots of tasty broths to select from. $27 inclusive of tax and tip.
Will be back soon for more loving from the Fatty Cow!
Love spicy broth but the one from Fatty Cow has a lot of residual chilies and hard little pieces of grainy stuff in the broth; wasn't what I was expecting so I had to strain all the tiny bits out as it completely coated the food. Other than that, I loved it! There's a ton of selection and the other clear broth we had was delicious.
Mooooo. Been here a couple of times when they were fairly new and it was pretty good hotpot actually. haven't been back tho cuz i'm rarely in the area.
This place is always packed for dinner. I liked that they have jacket covers for your chairs. Their service is so-so depends who you ask for service, I remember the male server gave us attitude for requesting to change the channel to hockey. The food speaks for itself though, quite fresh and the soup is not bad.
As a part of ChineseBites.com 's Signature Dishes Tour , which is a series of dinners in the Lower Mainland for food bloggers to try different Asian restaurants, I was invited to try Fatty Cow Seafood Hot Pot. On this occasion, I was joined by fellow bloggers Kevin , Rick , Romina , Sherman , and Alvin for some all-you-can-eat hot pot as well as other seafood. We ordered two soup bases: the Fatty Cow hot and spicy soup and the home-style with peanuts satay. Although both soup bases were delicious, I sometimes prefer the normal plain soup bases more since these ones are sometimes to overpowering. I did enjoy the ma la one though, and it wasn't too spicy for my taste.
We had arrived fairly early for our reservation, there was only 1 other table occupied. As soon as we placed our order and received our soup, the place was packed!
Fatty Cow is my only destination for Chinese hot pot in the city.
Double Soup ($8.50) has hot and spicy on one side and the other was a clear vegetable broth. This is my favourite kind since the spicy is great for cooking meat and the clear broth is best for vegetables. Also, its a good way to satisfy the different tastes at the table. Me and my friends would never be able to agree on which broth is better.
Overall, the service from the so-called "managers" were quite good, however, the servers were dull and lazy. Food? Well, no complaints since it's an AYCE. One thing I was quite choked about was that they tugged us to a table where there was a pillar right
