Every Day Is A Food Day

House Special is located in Yaletown and offers modern Vietnamese food. They offer a patio in front of the restaurant and the inside has modern decor but not overly fancy. To start, we ordered the Spring Rolls to share which consisted of shrimp and pork filling. The spring rolls were crispy and were served with a nước chấm dipping sauce and a side of Vietnamese herbs.
Fancy Vietnamese food.
Quaint sign & lanterns outside at a great location in Yaletown area!
The aroma draws you in to sit where you please.
The menu contains all the goodness you want to try.
The Garden salad roll had the crunchy & sweetness to it.
The Satay fried rice was pretty standard & yummy. Good strong serve for shares or one serve.
They do a great twist on the chicken rice. Hainanese chicken roulade was crispy on the outside & juicy on the inside. Cooked very well.
My recommendation- the garden roll.
Will definitely be back to try their share plates!
House Special made a very enjoyable stop for our Yaletown Cocktail Crawl, with clever Vietnamese inspired cocktails, Vietnamese dishes with modern twists, and chic ambiance. House Special reminds me of Bao Bei in Chinatown in a lot of ways. But food wise, I think the dishes here are more elevated. I highly recommend the Duck Confit Frybread and the Chicken Wings, or the Salad Rolls if you prefer something lighter.
I was quite excited to try House Special’s Taste of Yaletown menu. Overall, I quite enjoyed the dishes. It was disappointing to learn that there might be some inconsistency in regular service vs. media events, so I hope the restaurant is taking notes.
Excellent fusion Vietnamese food. Exceptional fresh flavours. Try the mango salad, Fry bread and steak.
Relaxed atmosphere and patio tables.
Definitely will be back.
House Special is an upscale restaurant that specializes in modern Vietnamese cuisine in Yaletown, Vancouver. It is change to see a string of chic eateries like Chi (Kitsilano) , Anh & Chi (Mount Pleasant) have a refreshed take on dining while serving authentic Vietnamese food. I like the clean, airy and brightly lit space.
Amazingggg Vegan pho!! A must try 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Still pretty amazed with such spectacular presentation! Surprisingly the avocado blends in perfect and marries with the incredible vibrant flavours of the veggie broth with NO msg and all natural !! Must go back for some more 😊👌🏼
a friend went here, and well a twist on asian cuisine, maybe it's good but for most i think it was okay and definitely overpriced. well in this scenario i tried for the dine out vancouver, i didn't expect much either since dine out vancouver is a special occasion where restaurants kinda lower their quality in order to make big batches of similar items. and in this case it's definitely okay. the food is definitely different in someway, but still retains that asian spices, although it's not really food changing experience.

Clean and inviting restaurant just off Davie.
I decided to stop in for lunch on Sat
The service was prompt from the beginning, the girls were very friendly.
I ordered the son in law egg to start and satay beef noodle as an entree.
Oddly the satay came out first.
But the noodles were perfectly cooked, the sauce was smooth and full of peanut flavour, I would have liked more heat but otherwise a good dish. The egg arrived right as I was finishing my entree, and was it ever worth the wait. Crispy exterior with a perfectly runny yolk atop a thick tamarind jelly which delivered the heat I was missing in the entree. The fresh coriander took the complex dish over the top, very well done.
I have been to House Special 4 or 5 times now, once for lunch and the rest for dinner.
The service has been consistently friendly and attentive. I've chatted with the owners a few times and they have been incredibly welcoming :)
A far as food goes, there is a lovely mix of classic Vietnamese dishes and modern dishes to choose from. The pho (vegan and regular) is incredible; filled with a variety of fun toppings and the broth is really flavorful without being overly salty.
The fry breads are a must have! There are 3 regular types to choose from; chicken, duck and mushroom. All 3 are available during lunch, and the selection alternates each night for dinner. This is a truly unique dish that is fresh and flavorful all at once!
There is a fun assortment of cocktails to pair with your food. I highly recommend the Plum Smuggler -it's fruity and has a fun egg white foam on top.
Word of advice: this is a place that is best appreciated when you can try several dishes. I highly recommend bringing several friends and sharing whatever catches your eye!
