I am absolutely thrilled to find this bakery. They have two locations located within just a few blocks of each other. I've been to their Davie Street location. As the name suggests, they make a good variety of pies, as well as various cookies, tarts, muffins and breakfast/lunch items. I've tried their Coconut Cream Pie,  Toll House Chocolate Chip Pie, Bakewell Tart and Butter Tart (details below). Everything was delicious, and the prices are an absolute steal. This is a wonderful place and I really look forward to returning.

Coconut Cream Pie ($4.25):
3.5/5
Although the slice of pie looked modest in size, it was actually quite light and airy (translation: I NEED at least 2 slices to satisfy my massive appetite). It consisted of a layer of shredded coconut that was topped with a thick layer of cream. I personally did not care too much for the cream; I found it to be kind of bland, which is unfortunate as it made up the majority of the pie filling. The coconut layer was considerably more flavourful, and of course, had a really nice fragrance. I personally would have preferred it to be sweeter, but I know that many other people don't like an overload of sugar, and will find this to be just fine. I was most impressed by the crust: it was perfectly baked where the edges weren't burnt, easy to cut into, and had a slight bit of salt that helped add flavour.

Toll House Chocolate Chip Pie ($4.25):
4/5
This was filled with chocolate chips and walnuts. I will begin by saying that the crust for this pie was just perfect in terms of doneness, with the edges being just slightly browned without burnt. The filling was considerably sweeter than that of the coconut cream, without (in my
opinion) being overly so. As stated in the name, the chocolate they used was from Nestle, which isn't exactly the highest quality and tasted a tad stale. It was still delicious though, and for the price, I certainly ain't complaining.

Butter Tart ($3?):
4/5
The crust was tender and flaky, the filling was sticky, gooey and sweet without being overly so. It had a nice caramelized flavour. It had some raisins in the bottom, which I didn't really care too much for (I personally would have preferred some nuts), but that's just my personal preference.

Bakewell Tart ($3?):
4/5
This was filled with almond paste and jam, and topped with sliced almonds. The crust is noticeably different from that of the butter tart: it was more like a shortbread and had a nice crumbly texture. The almond paste was sweet and fragrant, and paired well with the jam, which lent a bit of tartness. The sliced almonds provided a good crunch.

Tartine is a great little shop for sandwiches, coffee, bread and pies! All items are freshly made and delicious! The best part is in Fridays they have coffee and a slice of pie for $4-. The banana, peanut butter and walnut pie is delicious! It's a great way to end a week!

It has been over a year since my last visit to Tartine Bread & Pies.  Since then, they have opened a second location on Davie serving mostly the same items as their flagship eatery located just underneath the Granville Street Bridge.  These include sweet and savoury tarts, meat pies, quiches, tourtieres, sandwiches, soups, salads and more. They serve their own line of specialty roasted coffee from JJ Bean, as well as espresso drinks, tea and cold juices.

I loved the coconut pie they had in the one located near the Granville Bridge, so I was pretty excited that this new location was opening up. The cafe is a lot better designed than the other location. Modern, a bit of hipsterish feel, and the cafe is better branded/presented. Unfortunately, the coconut pie is so popular that every time I go, it seemed to be sold out! When Sheepie and I decided to check it out, that was the case.

Good, they are getting there. Pastries are very good (except the apple tart) but who ever open this knows what is doing. Is not French, not Italian not Transylvanian, is super good homemade
