Went for happy hour with a friend and every dish was pleasant surprise. I had no idea eggplant fries existed?! Also had the papaya salad - not bad. Not the best I've ever had but if someone asked me if it was good, I'd encourage them to give it a try. The eggplant fries were tasty but kind soggy but not because of the fry but because of the nature of eggplant. So if you're okay with that, give it a try! They have some pretty interesting drinks as well with flavours not typically explored. Nice lil place to drop by. You may have to flail your arms around to get them to take your money though.
After looking at different cuisines, we decided on Malaysian! I can’t say I’ve had much Malaysian food in my life. Anyways, we have heard good things about Banana Leaf and picked the location on West Broadway. We came on a Saturday evening around 6pm without reservations, and it was quite busy already.
The environment is nice and staff are friendly. We enjoyed a couple of curries with some roti bread. Roti was very tasty and overall enjoyed our meals.
The food was good and delisious
We ate curry lamb with rice which eas so good and halal ! Which was very suitable to us
The chicken wasnt halal so that we coild not try it
The waitress was nice and polite
Dine out dinner-11 courses $40 per person
We have made reservation and didn’t have to wait for long at all. Friendly service, great food and varieties. I have no complaints with any of the dishes. We will come back.
The alluring aromas don’t disappoint.
If you love Malaysian food, your appetite will awaken once you open the door & step into the restaurant.
Service at Broadway location is always excellent. Been there a few times & the quality of the food is consistently amazing.
My recommendations- the eggplant fries, satay & char kway teow.
It's seems like it's been years since visiting this location stepped in for lunch i ordered the Nyonya Calamari,Hot & Sour Soup and Lamb Curry all the dishes were a very hearty portions and delicious, the soup hit the right spot. The service was fantastic i would highly recommend this location
This so good! Great feelings when I came into this place, with my friends, we both agree this place is worth to go. Affordable prices and sweet services, $20each person. Feel comfortable to eat there
Love coming here to get a quick fix to satisfy a craving. This time we had the 9 course tasting menu for $30 a person for lunch. For the most part it was delicious but for $60 for 2 people we were probably better off ordering A la carte but you get to try a variety of dishes which is great..especially when you can't decide what to order.
The cumin mussels we thought was a tad watered down. My husband was looking forward to the beef rendang and we felt the portion for 2 fell short. Tiger prawns and scallops was plentiful of beans and prawns but only came with 1.5 pieces of scallops. Besides that everything was delicious! Chicken satay skewers were juicy and tender. Sambal green beans were crunchy with a good kick. Caramelized ginger sablefish was soft and tasty. To finish off, deep fried banana with ice cream...YUM!!
Overall great service! There is parking in the back but limited.
○good service
○good food
○family friendly
○reasonable price for portion and quality
○parking in a parkade near the restaurant
○would I go back? Maybe
Delicious food and a good wine selection. Will return and bring my wife.
I have to comment on their take-outs. Very well packed and the food is still hot after 5 hours! I love their Thai style ox-tail hot pot, so juicy and the meat is so tender. I have ordered twice before and never disappointed me.
Roti canai....thats all I need here! Delicious authentic meals here. Things are slighly more oily but done with intention to style of food and flavouring. Besides the roti, would recommend the curry dishes. Many things worth trying and will probably go back to try more. Service was quick to serve here as a takeout.
When Tropika was in Calgary I went there all time cuz I loved their roti. But then it closed down. Ever since I’ve been searching for a place that made it as good as them. Well now I moved to Vancouver and I saw this show up on skip the dishes. So glad I ordered from them. It’s the same! I had no idea there was a tropika in Van! So happy. I ordered take out and the food was delish! Well definitely order from here again and go check out their location for some crispy, flakes roti!!!!
Tropika has been around for a long time if i remember correctly. They used to have many locations, but I think they closed some of them over the years.
Tropika has been one of my favourites, their dishes are flavourful and good place for families.
I always order their chicken satay, prawn cakes, pompano fish, pine apple fried rice and pork chops. I think those are my go to dishes.
Their roti is also not bad, but personally not my taste.
The restaurant used to get very busy and loud before covid-19. Service is very typical Asian restaurant, ie you have to flag down servers to get things. But food comes out fairly quickly and servers responds very promptly.
I hope they don’t close more locations as it’ll be a shame to lose this restaurant from this city’s dining scene.
