This is starting to be chain. More and more Deer Gardens have been opening up. Although it you're looking for noodles and pick your sides, this is definately the place to go. Love it! And of course, the noodle comes with a decent drink as well. If you're looking for good service and a smile, this is not the place you want to go. But like any other chinese restaurants, service doesn't seem to be expected anymore.
This bowl was overflowing with veggies and various fish balls. Wish there was more soup, but there was no room. Alway a satisfying warm bowl of comfort.
The soup base is good.
A good choice to enjoy a soup noodle in winter.
The tea set 特色西多士 signature French toast is recommended.
And also, we can select the taiwanese drinks. Very good.
We came here on a Sunday for brunch and got here about 15 min before they open. Surprisingly there was a line up of 8ish ppl already.
Once the doors opened we were sat in some comfy booths. The restaurant has somewhat high ceilings and felt cool temperature-wise (likely because they just opened). The service was OK, not over friendly but when you asked for something, they follow through.
The original fish soup was my pick as my friends and family ordered the others. I got to do a taste of each and appreciate my broth. Strong milky fish taste. The build your own soup approach is awesome, pick your noodles, 2 toppers and soup. Best of all, We all agreed they provide a lot of noodles! And $11.25 comes with a drink too!
I ordered the signature fish soup combo. I had thick vermicelli with fish fillets and fish tofu (my initial choice was fish puff which they did not have that day). My choice of broth was something Chiu Chow pork. The broth was tasty. Ben had the Spareribs in Black Bean Sauce on Rice. Ben really enjoys his bowl of rice. He likes the texture of the rice.
You can tell how popular this place is judging by the queues outside the restaurant and the wait time. Luckily we didn't have to wait long (approx. 15-20 minutes) and they gave us slips to fill out our order while we waited. The fish soup base is their signature and is a must order. The combo is pretty good value for money with a choice of soup base, toppings, noodles plus a drink - all for $10.50. I ordered the milk tea which had great taste and strength (HK Style). The fish soup base was strong in fish flavour and very delicious. It's really difficult to drink all the fish soup and the drink (the stomach can only handle so much!) but we noticed that when you order a cold drink they put it in those bubble tea style sealed cups so a lot of people were taking them away to finish later. Don't expect much service given the price and how popular this venue is, they want you out the door once you finish.
Convenient, inexpensive and tasty - what more to ask for? They serve mainly fish noodle soup and you can select your combinations of soup base, ingredients and noodles/rice. Their XO sauce stir fried radish cake is one of my favorite.
○ok service/ made reservations still had to wait 30m after they kept assuring me ill be next
○good food/probably one of the better customizable soup style places
○I really liked their taro/radish cake
○family friendly
○reasonable price/ they charge .50 for take out container
○would I go back? Yes but not during their peak times
• parking can get really full in this shopping complex, car pool if you must especially during evenings & weekends
• be prepared to wait 10-15 minutes, max 30. They don't take reservations, first come, first serve basis
• tables are small, can get crowded
• fast & efficient service by staff
• simple menu choices: pick your soup base (some have MSG, be careful if you have sensitivities to it); then pick the type of noodles you prefer (thin, thick, rice, udon, potato, etc); 2 choices of either meat, veggie, tofu, etc (soup comes with mushrooms, cilantro, green onions); then pick either hot/cold drink. This for less than $10 + tax. I hope they won't raise prices.
• I've been to DG several times and always love their soups especially during chilly winter season. I have no complaints with their food. I love it!
Deer Garden is a renowned, eccentric restaurant in the world of Chinese food. They specialize in their noodle soup deal - where you can concoct your own order and add your desired ingredients and soup base. The order, along with a non-special drink (such as regular flavours of bubble tea, house tea, or juice), costs a solid total of $8.95. That being said - their food is well above average, and I appreciate the diversity of their options. I ordered a spicy laksa soup base along with Korean sweet potato noodles (Japchae), beef brisket, and bok choy - which was outstanding, and certainly worth its price (half of it was leftover). However, what I cannot infer is the quality of service here at Deer Garden. We came for my mom's birthday, thus, we were a large crowd of 12 - ultimately satisfied - but staff were relatively inefficient and inattentive. Although I can understand their busyness and slower wait times, patience and thorough communication must be maintained. I did enjoy my experience at Deer Garden, but a more lively setting/ambience and service would certainly amp up the experience.
