After an unsuccessful attempt to play beach v-ball, we decided to drown our sorrows in dessert. One buddy suggested we go for dofu fah at Excellent Tofu & Snacks. It’s located next door to Mango Mama. We dropped in on a Sunday afternoon (around 2:30pm). There was a constant group of people coming in for a quick dessert. The inside is very retro with an old school diner vibe to it. We sat at the counter and got to watch the two ladies work their tofu magic.
A perfect place to drop by after dinner for sweet tofu soup as light dessert. Quite conceivably a local favourite based on the number of years they’ve been in business. Possibly for cost-effective couples. What they lack in ambience they make up for in friendly service, taste and value.
Excellent Tofu & Snack 好好豆品 is a well known Chinese tofu dessert place in Richmond. It is located in a super busy and tiny plaza where parking is always a battle and a challenge.
Their tofu fa/tofu dessert 豆腐花 is silky smooth and have a very soy taste. Delicious! 😋

Best Tofu dessert ever. And one of the first in Richmond. Their tofu desserts are better quality than some in Hong Kong. Try it for yourself.
I've tried tofu desserts served on the streets of Indonesia, in the hawker centres of Singapore, dim sum and chinese restaurants in Taiwan and HK but none tastes as soft and fresh as this joint. I always love to have the hot version of tofu with evaporated milk and ginger syrup, it never fails to satisfy and my remedy when i'm under the weather! Had the tofu skin with gingko nuts its a bit too sweet. Fried tofu was just okay.
Tofu pudding is a staple in Cantonese dessert that can be served cold or hot, sweet or unsweetened, and plain or toppings. And Excellent Tofu is a no frill's looking shop serving up the best tofu dessert in the city in our opinion. In China, tofu pudding is actually served for breakfast and is topped with savoury toppings instead of sweets. They have it here as well but we have never tried it. If you're interested, it's called "Soy Pudding Shanghai Style"

Ordered the red bean with coconut tofu dessert and the black sesame tofu dessert. You can flavor to your preference with the sugar and ginger syrup they have on the table.
The place is not fancy but we come for the tofu, not the ambience. The fresh tofu is super soft and smooth - nothing like those weird tofu desserts that you get at the grocery store.
Great price for the quality of tofu. The tofu is really soft that slides down the throat so smoothly. The soy milk was really good as well. I would say the best tofu I've ever had.

I first heard about this place from my girlfriend. When you step inside it reminds me of Hong Kong right away. It's nothing fancy but right down to the point. I love their tofu desserts here and it's made fresh daily. I'm in love everytime I have a hot or cold bowl. There is quality here and I respect the skill and techniques the chefs have. I refrain from eating the store bought ones because,
1. They have heavy heavy coagulants. Your just eating more cornstarch basically. It changes the natural flavor.
2. Store bought products can be frozen when nearing their shelf life, it's true. Ever wonder why those store bought dessert tofus like sunrise go on sale 2 for 1? They just bring them out of the freezer and stamp a new date. If you do enough research you can find out alot about anything. Knowledge is power.
In the end I love this place. Clean cut natural tofu. I definitely know the difference. It's so supple, delicate, and really refreshing, because it's house made daily and fresh. I have nothing but good things to say about this place. One of my favorite places to go to for dessert.
I think of any other places at the moment to get this old school soy pudding type of desert anymore, :D so was really happy when i entered in the place and all the decorations and ambiance brings me back to an cantonese desert place. I came during the weekend i thought it's going to be packed, but apparently maybe most of the customers came in the morning, i came in the afternoon around 12 ish and it was empty, but it's good, I got everything that i wanted, pot stickers, chinese doughnut :0, and soy pudding.
Right cash only guys.
and yea definitely don't forget to put the sweet ginger sauce to your soy pudding, just a little bit for me it's enough. depending on how sweet you want it to be. defintely will come back :D
