Hit up this fairly new sushi joint with the bruv T as we were both feeling a lighter dine-out option. Place had decent decor with friendly & prompt service. And the sushi itself was above average. We had: iki karage, black moon roll, piggy roll & chicken teri don. The piggy roll was the definite highlight imo, although I gotta give props to the teri don for being much better than the usual don. Overall, a great sushi spot with good service & food. Just a bit on the pricey side is all.
A friend had recommended this restaurant. Had no idea it existed as it is located in a plaza with a handful of unknown stores attached to a Safeway and KFC.
Arrived at 7 pm and there was a bit of a wait. Put my name on the whiteboard and ended up waiting for only about 15 mins.
After ordering, food came pretty quick in less than 5 minutes. They have pretty efficient service. We realized they got our sushi order wrong after I had already taken a bite and they replaced it no problem.
Hot food came fresh from the kitchen. Tempura was freshly fried and had a good colour. Chicken teriyaki came hot on the plate and had an abundance of vegetables. Pork gyozas were juicy and filled with ample pork filling. Oyster motoyaki was baked with cheese, onions, spinach and some mushrooms. The spinach gomae was yummy with a rich peanut dressing. Sushi and sashimi were pretty fresh. The specialty rolls were pretty tasty as well.
On the list as one of my favourite Japanese Restaurants in Richmond. Not expensive at all and good quality food. Go early or after prime time as there are waits.
I'm actually pretty happy I found out about this place. There aren't many sushi places in Richmond that I've been to and enjoyed. But this one is definitely a good choice and a place I'd want to come back to.
It was pretty busy when I went. You have to write your name down on the whiteboard. There's a piece of paper above it that has a few words about writing your name legibly and making sure you're around to hear your name called. For a table for two, we waited around 15 minutes. We were seated and servers kept asking if we were ready to order. I think three different servers asked. I can understand that they want quick turnover, but it felt like a bit much. But at least they were attentive.
We ended up getting the deluxe chirashi don, ebi mayo, gomae, chopped scallop nigiri, aburi salmon nigiri, aburi toro nigiri, and hamachi nigiri. The aburi is just am additional 50 cents and can only be done on tuna, salmon, toro, hamachi, or chopped scallop. Their nigiris are quite reasonably priced, even with the added on 50 cents. I thought they were pretty tasty. My boyfriend said hamachi was just OK though. The gomae was pretty basic and was tasty. The chirashi don was nicely presented and had lots of variety. The fish tasted fresh and the portion was quite big. The ebi mayo was interesting because it is tempura prawn but wrapped with strings of sweet potato that is also deep fried. It was cool to try but a little difficult to eat because of the sweet potato.
Overall, the meal was very satisfying for a reasonable price. For the two of us, it was about 50 with tax and tip. Definitely an affordable and tasty place.
