I love this spot! The breakfast croissants are to die for. The staff are super cheerful. The salads are great for a weekday lunch. I have never had something from Bread and Sons I didn't like.
This place had phenomenal vegetarian food options, wonderful beverages, and an excellent music selection. It’s more of a stop and go place as there is little seating, but nonetheless it was well worth it.
Came here the other day at lunch and grabbed a loaf of sourdough, and a latte. The service was good, and it's a nice little place, it feels very cozy. Their pizza slices also looked really good. The sour dough wasn't the best I've had in Ottawa, but it was certainly up there. Just wish the place had hours that I'd be more able to take advantage of.
I got the brownie - DELICIOUS! So this little bakery is on bank (I believe). I went during a lunch break and got their drip coffee and the brownie. If you’re into strong coffee then you’d love this! I’m eager to try their other coffees because I hear they have best, and from my first experience it was great. Now the brownie, it’s pretty heavy I got to tell you but it’s got a centre warm chocolatey fudge to it that’s fantastic! I’m coming again to try the rest of their goodies
I've been to this fine establishment twice and my wife and I love the food. What attracted me to try it was everyone raving about the espresso and other coffee delights they offered. My only complaint is simply that I was not able to try the espresso because the machine was "closed" and didn't open before 7:30am on the one try and on the second, I visited the bakery after 3pm and it was closed for the day. If this could change, that would be awesome because I could get my morning cappuccino and head to work without any delays..
UPDATE. Finally got to try the coffee, ordered myself a cappuccino, loved it. I understand why the espresso machine is not always available now.
Thanks!
Wow! Best vegan muffins (pumpkin seeds) ever. The place is a bit small, but staff is very nice. Today there was no vegan muffin and I went for the ginger coconut date muffin (not vegan) as suggested by the nice girl at the cash. It was sooooo good. I just love this place. I wish they would open a spot in Montreal since I have to move back (let's say I would rather stay and enjoy the great spots in Ottawa like this one).
Awesome food and great coffee! This place is packed full of great baked treats, and awesome pizzas and sandwiches. If they served meat I would never leave! Even still, this place deserves 5 stars, amazing!
A great find . I've been passing by it for years but never got to try it, and now i wish i did. Great tasting savoury scones and 'boreka' a must try. Portions are indeed small and a bit pricey but well worth it once you take that first bite. Service was very friendly and the place is clean. I will definitely go back. A must try if you haven't yet
Great espresso. I remember coming here when it first opened and learning that only one person was trained to operate the espresso machine...and I knew I had found the right place for meticulously made espresso downtown. Thankfully, after a few years, others can operate the machine! and after about 2 years of frequenting Bread and Sons am pleased to note that the consistency and quality of the pull is as it was and it should always be. I have a soft spot for espresso macchiato and Bread & Sons delivers. Over the years, I am actually pleased to see the baking options so diversified. While I was not a fan of some early baked goods, I am increasingly tempted by various treats, the latest being the brioche (see picture). The cozy nature of this bakery reminds of a favourite of mine in Montreal (Boulangerie Les Co'Pains D'Abord); both can be crowded at times, but this intimacy adds to the charm. In fact, Bread & Sons exemplifies all the good qualities of what a hard-working neighbourhood bakery should be: daring, yet reliable, consistent, yet inventive, and certainly enticing. The true test: repeat business (even if, sadly, there are no nanaimo bars or mille-feuille).
I need to stop going in. Delish fresh-baked goods! I wish they had more vegan options (not that I am sick of any of them yet). Service is not very welcoming...well, ever....but I come back because their product is so damn tasty.
You'll instantly fall in love with this cute bakery located at 195 Bank Street. Everything you find here is home made. Stop by and grab a coffee and try one of their delicious baked goods. They have a great selection of savoury and sweet items including: mini quiches, cookies, croissants, börek and more. Stop by at lunch and grab one of their sandwiches (my favourites are avocado or goat cheese) or some pizza! They also have fresh Urban Juice Press, cold-pressed organic juice! It's quite small so it's best to take your items to go!
Splendid baked goods, especially the mini-quiches. Very good mulit-grain breads and butter croissants - almost as good as The French Bakery (which is our gold standard for croissants in Ottawa). Lovely friendly staff. A bit pricey, but worth it for a treat.
HIDDEN GEM. This spot has been a staple on Bank since 2005. And now I know why.
Everything was delicious. From the sandwiches to the pizza to the amazing treats. My mouth is watering just thinking about all the goodness.
This is a must try. Favorites from here was the pizza and the sandwiches.
I finally got to try Bread&Sons!
I enjoyed all the pastries I got.
Hand pie, and chocolate hazelnut cookie were my favorite.
The almond custard croissant and the quiche were nice as well.
I would visit again!
I work across the street from your bakery and I have to say that I am a HUGE fan. Your baked goods are always fresh and delicious. I particularly love the spinach and feta spiral with sesame on top...oh so good! The only feedback I would like to give you from a customer standpoint is that your store front really should stand out more. I had no idea that there was a bakery there if it was not for my co-workers raving about you. I had a hard time finding the name of your store on the sign outside. Either way, I am so happy to have found you!
Love it. I'm so sad that they close around 3pm now. I love their pizza, sandwiches, and baked goods. But I especially love the customer service. The girls who work the counter have always been lovely and kind. Thank you to everyone on the team 🙂
O. M. G. ... Google, please increase your star rating options because Bread and Sons has just blown me away, and 5 stars just isn't enough. We had the tempeh and gauda sandwiches, a garlicy slice of pizza with jalapeno (do not overlook the pizza here), two pastries (an almond-ey, custurd-ey, blueberry croissant and this expresso cream filled pain au chocolat type deal topped with copious amounts of nutty goodness), and lattes of course. I wish I remembered the names and all the ingredients, but what I will never forget is the insanity of all this. So, so, so, so, so tasty (to the power of infinity). Flavours = bursting; freshness = *chefs kiss*; texture = soft and crispy in all the right ways. I could write more but first let me have the best nap of my life courtesy of some of the best sandwiches, pastry and pizza I've ever had. Y'all are special, and I can't believe I live two blocks away and waited so long to enjoy your transcendent deliciousness. Can't wait to be back - thank you for all that you do!!!
Absolutely divine!
Delicious vegetarian options, including pizza, sandwiches, and baked goods. Items are warmed up and grilled upon request.
Very tasty selection!
Quaint seating area as well. Busy over breakfast and lunch but the line moves quickly.
I would highly recommend a visit. This is the best bakery I have found so far in Ottawa.
Stopped in for some pizza slices (great veggie options) which were delicious. It was the end of the day so there wasn't much selection left, but I wish I had tried one of their baked goods. Small space with only two small tables at the window and a bar along the side. Would love to see them expand and make it more of a relaxed sit down atmosphere. Will definitely be back!
