I love this spot! The breakfast croissants are to die for. The staff are super cheerful. The salads are great for a weekday lunch. I have never had something from Bread and Sons I didn't like.
This place had phenomenal vegetarian food options, wonderful beverages, and an excellent music selection. It’s more of a stop and go place as there is little seating, but nonetheless it was well worth it.
Great pizza (though cold - not sure if there was an option to heat it up). And five stars for the tempeh in the tempeh sandwich - the best darned tempeh I've ever had.
My favorite bakery - if not eatery - in Ottawa. Food is always flavourful, fresh and well made. They also aren't afraid to get creative and showcase new types of baked goods and pizzas. Highly recommend this place. Everyone should try their pizza at least once.
Friendly staff, friendly owner, stellar food, local ingredients. Best pumpkin muffins in town. Also plenty of heat to warm your toes in the winter. This is what you call a gem.
The staff are lovely, the food is delicious, and the coffee is the best in Ottawa.
You guys have to enter your cookies in a competition or something....That Chocolate Chip cookie is the best I've ever had!!! I'm addicted to your Banana Chocolate Chip muffin....I think I've gained 10 lbs since discovering you!!! Soooo good!!
Just found this place the other day to grab lunch for my wife while she was working. Got her a slice of pizza just because it looked so good, her reaction was priceless! She immediately fell in love with it, so we will definitely be back again soon!
What a fantastic coffee shop. Great coffee and fresh nutty scones.
You guys have the best avocado sandwiches ever. Also the cookie filled with dark chocolate is to die for. Thank you!
A Gem in the middle of Ottawa, definitely a place I will visit again.
The best, most healthiest pizza slices! The wild rice salad is another gem... anything here is amazing.

I'm in love!
The lunch sandwhiches are worth the extra walk from work - and each one I try is better than the last!
And then this morning, I decided to hit Bread & sons for my bosses project meeting; gruyere as well as chocolate & almond scones. My boss loved em', so she loves me, so I love Bread & sons! haha
Oh and - we'll probably be contacting this wonderful place for our new Corporate event.
Food makes the world go round, I tell ya. :D
Big thank you to Bread & Sons! My visit to Ottawa fell on a weekend when the store is closed, but they baked my favourite cookies and delivered them to a neighbouring business for me to pick up last Saturday. AMAZING customer service and delicious cookies!
Came here the other day at lunch and grabbed a loaf of sourdough, and a latte. The service was good, and it's a nice little place, it feels very cozy. Their pizza slices also looked really good. The sour dough wasn't the best I've had in Ottawa, but it was certainly up there. Just wish the place had hours that I'd be more able to take advantage of.
I got the brownie - DELICIOUS! So this little bakery is on bank (I believe). I went during a lunch break and got their drip coffee and the brownie. If you’re into strong coffee then you’d love this! I’m eager to try their other coffees because I hear they have best, and from my first experience it was great. Now the brownie, it’s pretty heavy I got to tell you but it’s got a centre warm chocolatey fudge to it that’s fantastic! I’m coming again to try the rest of their goodies
I've been to this fine establishment twice and my wife and I love the food. What attracted me to try it was everyone raving about the espresso and other coffee delights they offered. My only complaint is simply that I was not able to try the espresso because the machine was "closed" and didn't open before 7:30am on the one try and on the second, I visited the bakery after 3pm and it was closed for the day. If this could change, that would be awesome because I could get my morning cappuccino and head to work without any delays..
UPDATE. Finally got to try the coffee, ordered myself a cappuccino, loved it. I understand why the espresso machine is not always available now.
Thanks!
Wow! Best vegan muffins (pumpkin seeds) ever. The place is a bit small, but staff is very nice. Today there was no vegan muffin and I went for the ginger coconut date muffin (not vegan) as suggested by the nice girl at the cash. It was sooooo good. I just love this place. I wish they would open a spot in Montreal since I have to move back (let's say I would rather stay and enjoy the great spots in Ottawa like this one).
Awesome food and great coffee! This place is packed full of great baked treats, and awesome pizzas and sandwiches. If they served meat I would never leave! Even still, this place deserves 5 stars, amazing!
A great find . I've been passing by it for years but never got to try it, and now i wish i did. Great tasting savoury scones and 'boreka' a must try. Portions are indeed small and a bit pricey but well worth it once you take that first bite. Service was very friendly and the place is clean. I will definitely go back. A must try if you haven't yet
Great espresso. I remember coming here when it first opened and learning that only one person was trained to operate the espresso machine...and I knew I had found the right place for meticulously made espresso downtown. Thankfully, after a few years, others can operate the machine! and after about 2 years of frequenting Bread and Sons am pleased to note that the consistency and quality of the pull is as it was and it should always be. I have a soft spot for espresso macchiato and Bread & Sons delivers. Over the years, I am actually pleased to see the baking options so diversified. While I was not a fan of some early baked goods, I am increasingly tempted by various treats, the latest being the brioche (see picture). The cozy nature of this bakery reminds of a favourite of mine in Montreal (Boulangerie Les Co'Pains D'Abord); both can be crowded at times, but this intimacy adds to the charm. In fact, Bread & Sons exemplifies all the good qualities of what a hard-working neighbourhood bakery should be: daring, yet reliable, consistent, yet inventive, and certainly enticing. The true test: repeat business (even if, sadly, there are no nanaimo bars or mille-feuille).
I need to stop going in. Delish fresh-baked goods! I wish they had more vegan options (not that I am sick of any of them yet). Service is not very welcoming...well, ever....but I come back because their product is so damn tasty.
You'll instantly fall in love with this cute bakery located at 195 Bank Street. Everything you find here is home made. Stop by and grab a coffee and try one of their delicious baked goods. They have a great selection of savoury and sweet items including: mini quiches, cookies, croissants, börek and more. Stop by at lunch and grab one of their sandwiches (my favourites are avocado or goat cheese) or some pizza! They also have fresh Urban Juice Press, cold-pressed organic juice! It's quite small so it's best to take your items to go!
Splendid baked goods, especially the mini-quiches. Very good mulit-grain breads and butter croissants - almost as good as The French Bakery (which is our gold standard for croissants in Ottawa). Lovely friendly staff. A bit pricey, but worth it for a treat.
Favourite Centretown bakery. I've been recommended Bread & Sons to friends, family, and colleagues since I discovered this little gem around 5 years ago. The pizzas were always fantastic (anything with ricotta or feta were particular favourites). As well, I came to love their roasted potato sandwich. Authentic Parisian croissants, just the way you'd find them along the streets in Paris. Crisp, crunchy exterior with a chewy, buttery soft inside. Sour dough breads are awesome too. Stop in and grab a treat, you won't be disappointed.
I go out of my way to go to Bread and Sons. The quality, taste and price is right. I'm a huge supporter! I rave about it to everyone I know!
Deliciously homemade food!!!. Best place for unpretentiously homemade food! Great pizza, slightly pricey for such thin crust but the dough is freshly made everyday and the toppings are quite tasty that it's worth it. The pastries are all quite delicious.. Make sure to try he carrot cake if you don't know what to choose- but get there early cause it sells out everyday.
Try the white chocolate bread pudding. I come here on mornings usually. There's two items that stand out for me. Their white chocolate bread pudding, and their croissant egg cheese sandwich. When either of these are served still warm from the oven they are to die for. I've tried the pizza; make sure to ask them to heat it up if you feel it's later in the day. I thought it was okay. Neat toppings.
Great Selection for Lunch. Pizza and pastries are real and great. Sandwiches are freshly made. Impeccably artfully done energizing cappuccino. Organic keffir -essential for Cassandra.
I love this place. The pizza is absolutely delicious! I go at least once a week to grab a slice and never regret it. They really need to start making more potato pizza though, they are always out and it is by far the best and what brings me back.
Good pizza. Awesome pizza, good cookies.
Wasn't a fan of the inside -- my boyfriend and I were sitting by one of the tables by the window and tbh it didn't seem that clean.
Staff were super friendly and easy to talk to.
Will come back again next time I am in Ottawa :)
OH MAHH GAWDDD, MY STOMACH THANKS YOU. What can I say about this place that hasn't already been said. The pizzas are soo awesome. They're absolutely delicious and cooked to perfection with super awesome toppings. My favorite is the vegetarian pizza which is a creative piece of culinary art. At first glance it looks amazing and on first bite your taste buds will be rejoicing with satisfaction. Their baked goods are equally amazing but what stands out is there "most amazing cookie" (i think that's what its called). This cookie is the best cookie I've had in my entire existence. It puts all other cookies to shame. If cookie monster ate this cookie he would implode into an ecstasy mushroom cloud of desire. They don't use regular chocolate, they use orange chocolate. The cookie is moist, crunchy, chewy, sweet, and sprinkled with crack (yes I'm addicted). Must have cookie...
If you haven't gone in, do yourself a favor and do it! Your stomach and taste buds will thank you. The only complaint I have is that everything runs out so fast. Because they beee sooo geewwwdd..
Super friendly service and tasty, tasty food. A must visit.
Num num num their cookies are sooo good! Make sure to get there early because they run out quickly. Their croissant and egg sandwich is a great way to start any day. Plus, the staff is so friendly and inviting. Can't get enough of bread and sons.
A great staple!. I absolutely love this place! Their thin crust pizza is to die for and their tofu avocado salad is pure bliss. This is my favourite lunch place. The staff is friendly; the food is fresh and so delicious! I highly recommend this little gem!
Delish. High quality lunch and dinner made right in front of you while music is playing from the record player on the counter. (nice touch)
The pizza,s are amazing.
The cookies are to die for.
and my personal favorite the cheese croissants, not a bad word to say about them
A-maz-ing 4 Cheese Grilled Cheese sandwich with great sides. I had the option with olives, dill and tomatoes while my friends had roasted (or sautéed) mushrooms etc. Best sandwich I've had in recent memory .
Best pizza...worst salad.... I love B & S pizza. It's the best pizza I've had in Ottawa. Great toppings, thin crust, not too much cheese. Yummy.
But, I tried a greek salad today and it was, by far, the worst salad I've had in my entire life. Why? The dressing... The salad itself was fine, but the dressing? It tasted like the taste that you get in your mouth after vomiting. Sorry to be explicit, but it is one of the worst things I've ever tasted. So, my suggestion is to stick with the pizza or at the very least avoid the greek salad and its dressing.
Great espresso. The espresso here is something special. It's hard to find anything that compares in Ottawa.
Good fast food? Go figure!. For the sake of full disclosure, I have to admit that I'm a full fledge Meat-a-vor. But when I need to graze on some top grade grain, and vegitation, this place is the place any meat-a-vor can go to for full satisfaction.
The pizza is full fledge awesomeness, and they grown from top grade vegitation, planted on a bed to expensive cheese, and raised in the oven to glorious bite of happiness. Not over filling, satisfying, and the slices are plenty large. Other stuff seems to be top grade, furniture looks very warm, rustic, and are really expensive to the well trained eyes. The service is marvelous. The whole experience from door back out to door is about as long as it takes for you to read this review! Did I mention it's perfect for the lunch time rush!
Love it!!!. Everything I've tried there I LOVE! Especially the roast potato, tomato, garlic and green onion pizza - best pizza that I've ever had, and only 4$ for a huge slice. Chocolate oatmeal cookie is equally delicious. Other tasty options are the brie sandwich with veggies and the tofu salad with tahini dressing. I could eat lunch there daily!
Amazing!. The smoked tempeh sandwich is delicious! This is the only place (that I know of) that features vegan pizza on the menu. Love it! A little pricey, and it can get quite packed during lunch time, but it's well worth it.
Tasty pizza. Love the pizza! Great vegetarian lunch option and not pricy. Scones and cookies good too
Great bread and pizza. I have tried a couple of different pizza slices and they are great. Even grab them on the way home after work and you wont regret it. Not cheap but worth it.
Today I grabbed a loaf of the organic sourdough bread. FANTASTIC.
I should really try something other than the pizza but it simply too good to pass up! My favourite pizza in town - by the slice, healthy, light and always a varied selection. How can you not love this place?
Amazing Sandwiches. I just ate the most amazing smoked tempeh sandwich... highly recommended. The cookies and bread are good too, but not as amazing as that sandwich.
A delightful little place with amaZing product and excellent staff. Highlights include pastries, pizza, spelt bread, sour dough bread, sandwiches and coffee.
And the pizza. Oh my (non-existent) god. Never has vegetarian food been so yummy and satisfying. That I love this pizza so much makes me wonder if I should also open my mind to other previously-unthought-of possibilities like lesbian sex and ear candeling (the answers are maybe, and no, never).
I paired it with a sweet potato and jalapeno pizza from Bread and Sons. The beer played well with the sweet potatoes and the creaminess of the beer attenuated the spicy peppers. Bread and Sons pizzas are thin-crusted and lightly topped which was perfect for this rich beer.
HIDDEN GEM. This spot has been a staple on Bank since 2005. And now I know why.
Everything was delicious. From the sandwiches to the pizza to the amazing treats. My mouth is watering just thinking about all the goodness.
This is a must try. Favorites from here was the pizza and the sandwiches.
I finally got to try Bread&Sons!
I enjoyed all the pastries I got.
Hand pie, and chocolate hazelnut cookie were my favorite.
The almond custard croissant and the quiche were nice as well.
I would visit again!
I work across the street from your bakery and I have to say that I am a HUGE fan. Your baked goods are always fresh and delicious. I particularly love the spinach and feta spiral with sesame on top...oh so good! The only feedback I would like to give you from a customer standpoint is that your store front really should stand out more. I had no idea that there was a bakery there if it was not for my co-workers raving about you. I had a hard time finding the name of your store on the sign outside. Either way, I am so happy to have found you!
Love it. I'm so sad that they close around 3pm now. I love their pizza, sandwiches, and baked goods. But I especially love the customer service. The girls who work the counter have always been lovely and kind. Thank you to everyone on the team 🙂
O. M. G. ... Google, please increase your star rating options because Bread and Sons has just blown me away, and 5 stars just isn't enough. We had the tempeh and gauda sandwiches, a garlicy slice of pizza with jalapeno (do not overlook the pizza here), two pastries (an almond-ey, custurd-ey, blueberry croissant and this expresso cream filled pain au chocolat type deal topped with copious amounts of nutty goodness), and lattes of course. I wish I remembered the names and all the ingredients, but what I will never forget is the insanity of all this. So, so, so, so, so tasty (to the power of infinity). Flavours = bursting; freshness = *chefs kiss*; texture = soft and crispy in all the right ways. I could write more but first let me have the best nap of my life courtesy of some of the best sandwiches, pastry and pizza I've ever had. Y'all are special, and I can't believe I live two blocks away and waited so long to enjoy your transcendent deliciousness. Can't wait to be back - thank you for all that you do!!!
Absolutely divine!
Delicious vegetarian options, including pizza, sandwiches, and baked goods. Items are warmed up and grilled upon request.
Very tasty selection!
Quaint seating area as well. Busy over breakfast and lunch but the line moves quickly.
I would highly recommend a visit. This is the best bakery I have found so far in Ottawa.
Stopped in for some pizza slices (great veggie options) which were delicious. It was the end of the day so there wasn't much selection left, but I wish I had tried one of their baked goods. Small space with only two small tables at the window and a bar along the side. Would love to see them expand and make it more of a relaxed sit down atmosphere. Will definitely be back!
