Amazing food, Eric is extremely talented and he's a great baker, they make a wonderful selection of treats and food. He's a really cool guy, all of the staff are amazing but had a mix up and they acted like it was our fault... Not sure how that's possible as it was just the wrong box from behind the counter.
It's no secret. I Moved to Guelph august 2014, and began modest exploration. First meal: on moving day, right across the street from my house, Senor Chipotle. It's good, real Mex; I've been back. Good pizza at Manhattan's. And one Saturday I found myself downtown, checking out the farmer's market, and saw this narrow storefront: Eric the Baker. Sausage Roll, $2. It's amazing. Remember those nasty dry dough wads with a wizened weenie stuffed inside, the nadir of British cuisine (well, that and the steamtable veg)? One of Eric's will banish that culinary nightmare forever. The sausage roll is not merely redeemed but elevated to the grail of one-hand meals. But it doesn't end there (although it could...they are good enough that they alone justify the drive from whence you came). Eric's desserts are equally to die for: Gâteau Basque, banana bread drizzled with chocolate, superb lemon tartes (and passion fruit, and others), assorted chocolate brownies and tartes, the best éclairs in memory...and I'm still barely halfway into the menu.
Everyone in Guelph knows...now you do, too.
Everything from here is delicious! I've been a few times whenever I'm downtown and have cash with me!
I'm no authority on European authenticity of baked goods, but I don't think that matters with how tasty and fresh the food always is. I've heard from other people this place is legit if that matters to you.
I'm personally a fan of the croissants, and had the pleasure of having their red pepper and potato soup today (perfect for the cold weather!)
