My TripAdvisor review:
A Peruvian restaurant with a French name in Chinatown. Only in Ottawa.
This was my first visit to Petit Peru, but not my last. The food was great--my friend and I split the Ceviche Petit Peru for two, and we started with beef empanadas accompanied by a superb dipping sauce called, ají huacatay. (The two main ingredients are the herb, huacatay, and the ají amarillo chili.) The empanada itself was excellent, with a flaky crust and savoury filling, and it was served piping hot.
Our ceviche (a cold soup served throughout Latin America) contained calamari, shrimp, tilapia, onions, roasted corn, and some other vegetables. There were plantain chips, sweet potatoes, and some fried seafood served on the side, but in the same over-sized martini glass. We washed it all down with some Materva, a yerba mate soft drink.
The service was fast and courteous, and we were informed that every month or so the restaurant prepares an all-you-can-eat ceviche menu. The next is coming up in mid-September. It would be worth a trip downtown, for sure.
Check this place out if you're on the west end of Somerset and not really in the mood for Asian food. (If you're like us, though, you can go across the street to the pho shop for some iced Vietnamese coffee to round off your meal.)
Delicious food! very cozy restaurant the staff was very friendly highly recommend this place!
I had to keep my coat. It was very cold inside the restaurant. Ceviche was ok. Rice was very good. Tequenos con huancaina was excellent.
2022 Aug update
Very happy that the place is open for lunch. Had to try it out. It’s located by the ruisseau and old Hull. Street parking is easy and they also offer onsite parking.
inside decor is homey and cozy.
Tried out the Ceviche Petit Peru which is the combo plate with Ceviche Mixto ( marinated sea food) and Jalea ( deep fried breaded seafood).
the Jalea portion was quite small but the breading was nice and crispy. It had squid , fish and shrimp mix. Both fish and shrimp were delicious but squid lining was not removed. I was quite surprised with this and it cause the texture to be Chewie and gamey.
Ceviche mixto part was quite awesome. They put quite a bit of fish inside the taste was great.
Ordered beef empanada but got chicken instead.
Overall ; paid $48 for lunch and cannot say I am happy with the wrong order nor impressed with Jalea / fried plate. But ceviche mixto was good hence 4*.
I always come here whenever I visit Ottawa. They serve fresh authentic Peruvian dishes. Highly recommend!
Very tasty food, and lots to choose from. The service was lacking in attentiveness, but the place is small enough that we were always able to grab someone when needed. They were also very good about identifying gluten-free options (we emailed in advance).
Awesome little Peruvian restaurant. The ceviche is delicious you will not regret it. Lots of different drink choices with Peruvian beers available. Staff is friendly and service is prompt. Visited on a few occasions and I've never been disappointed. Highly recommended!

Excellent food! Very friendly staff. They have options for dead food lovers and meat lovers. Great appetizers options to share. Fully recommend the visit!
This restaurant has a very delicious Peruvian food! We were looking for a good place to eat in Gatineau and we found this amazing cozy bistro! Service was excellent, prices good and is an A+ for the entire experience! Muchas gracias por la atención y la maravillosa comida, ¡nos encantó, ¡Bravo!
Great food and very friendly service. Although not busy, it felt we waited a long time for our food, but the food was great. Would definitely recommend.
Very tasty and awesome food! Will definitely go back again!! Love it
Every time I’ve gone food was awesome, chicken with fries, ceviches, any classic Peruvian dish is well represented here. The only need for improvement would be the attention to service, although very friendly and respectful staff, they can be more attentive. Forgot cutlery, offer of smaller plates for sharing, forgot to bring certain extra ketchups, no refill on waters. But still worth trying the food if you want a Peruvian experience in the national capital area.
