I wouldn't quite call this place a bistro. We went on at around 130pm Dec 28th so it was just us in the resto. Good food, generous portions. I will say that our poutine cheese curds were a bit cold though, I assume they have it all prepped and reheat as they go along, the food came out very fast. Very much cabinet of curiosity style. They have 3 different seating rooms with different decor, vibes and names. I'd recommend it. We had the poutine duck confit and the chicken pasta, tasty. #duckconfit #pasta #poutine #quirky #cabinetofcuriosity

Atypical place: old house with vintage decor, which gives the place a special and exceptional charm. The staff is very knowledgeable. You will get good suggestions and recommendations if you’re not sure what to get. Food is delicious. Always ask for the day specials. For those who understand French, the menu is a fun read!

Wow, absolutely delicious. The French Onion soup is superb and it was followed by an even tastier duck main dish. I will be returning again soon! The staff are incredibly friendly and hard working, and the interior rooms are decorated with individual themes that stimulate conversation. Big wine list but only a few craft beers served. Also no cocktail menu but that doesn't mean they don't serve cocktails. Definitely ask for the dinner specials, they are not listed on the menu and they will blow your taste buds away! Portions are big and you can take away whatever you can't finish (it is easy to fill up on the fresh bread and entre soup before even getting to the main). Parking is free.

It is worth a visit just for the creative decor. They have used very warm strong colours which make you welcome and comfortable. The menu is a smaller and obviously consists of farm to table items. The portions are adequate and in keeping with the price range. The flavours seem to be in the comfort food category yet more nutritional. Although it is French first, the staff is completely bilingual and responds accordingly. I will return.

Honestly so close to a 5 stars restaurant, that i will give it 5 stars without any regrets! Lovely old style retro ambiance, polite and professional staff, the owner is right there usually and always making sure you will love your experience, the food is simply delicious and always a new discovery and the prices are fair. Best Tartare ever, hands down! Thank you Le Forain! We always love to come back, over and over again!

Great! Loved the creative atmosphere and good tasting quality food here. Reasonably priced topped with friendly service, pushes this restaurant above the others. The food portions were fair with a wonderful presentation and delicious as well! Unique meat options such as deer, bison, and duck on poutines truly puts a spin on their dishes. I would recommend Bistro Le Forain to anyone looking for a great night out in the Ottawa/Gatineau area.

Absolutely amazing service by Renee!!! My husband and I went for the first time last week and were lucky enough to be served by Renee. She was the most attentive, informative and helpful server we have ever had!!! She went above and beyond. Her suggestions were amazing. She has given us an experience we will remember for the rest of our lives. Thank you Renee, for your wonderful service. You are amazing.

My husband and I went there with a gift certificate in April, and we weren't sure what to expect. We ended up having a fantastic dinner and overall a lovely evening out. The food all has that taste to it that only comes from really caring about what you do; I had the hearty and delicious house-made "pogo" made from chorizo and puff pastry, as well as a creamy smoked salmon pasta on special, that exceeded my expectations. They offer one of my favourite beers (Alchimiste Bock de Joliette), and the owner and other staff were all extremely friendly. The decor is quirky-fun while also creating a warm fine-dining atmosphere in an older historical building. The stairs to the washroom are painted to look like book spines, all the classics! One of the most fun surprises is that they use tiny books as their billfolds! Ours was a book of postmodern French poetry, which kept us from paying for a while while we read through it. The outdoor terrace was still closed for winter when we were there, but we're eager to try it out next summer!
