The restaurant is a bit small on the inside. The amount of money you pay for a dish at this restaurant is worth it. The breakfast dish I had was the, "Huevos Rancheros," in which I was pleasantly surprised, because it tasted good. The portions of a main dish is large. The person who served us was friendly and nice. The atmosphere of the restaurant was lively and the decorations inside the restaurant were on the cool and interesting side of things. I ordered the cornbread here and it was soft and sort of crispy. The restaurant is good with a group of possibly up to six people, but not more than six. At the end of our time there and we had to pay the bill, the server gave us lollipops. in which I thought was nice and interesting to do.
I enjoyed the food and service.. My spouse and I went there for lunch today and we had an enjoyable experience. The service was good, coffee always topped off and our server was friendly. The grilled cheese and crispy hash browns I ordered was exactly what I was craving, and my spouse raved about his veggie burger (they get them from Planet Organic). Overall, it was a great experience. the pace was relaxed (not slow) and we didn't feel like we were being rushed out like when we go to Corras or Dennys.
Decided to give this a try before heading back to Vancouver yesterday. Excellent friendly service,..ordered a smoked salmon egg benny. Delicious !!. Side harsh brown a little soggy but tasted ok. Overall good and will try again on my next visit to Calgary.
Skeptics should give it another try. At one point Nellie's was the cool place to go for breakfast, but I think they over expanded and were unable to maintain their quality. I honestly thought the Marda Loop location was terribly overrated back when Nellie's was at the top of their game.
After forsaking Nellie's for many years I stopped in the Kensington location for breakfast on a Saturday morning, and I was completely blown away with the food. The special was Eggs Benedict with salmon and spinach, and it was amazing. My friend ordered the Gut Buster, and everything on his plate was delicious. Also our server was fantastic. I honestly can't wait to go back.
The chicken cashew sandwich is pretty good, I would recommend the lunch combo that wraps up your meal with a giant brownie.
Gluten-free french toast!!. I have always loved Nellies, even despite their big dramatic stint in the papers. I have never had anything but amazing, friendly service and fantastically comforting food.
I was sooooo happy to learn that they had gluten-free french toast! they are one of the only places in the city, and since being diagnosed celiac I really, really missed my french toast. While the pieces were a bit small, I was just so ecstatic to feel normal again.

My breakfast location. Basic eggs and sausage, or a heuvos rancheros, this is where I come for breakfast. Regular coffee refills and fast service, the place bustles and that speaks for itself.
Yum!! Amazing Service!. I love going to nellie's for the Ukranian Breakfast - pan fried perogies, garlic sausage, sour dough bread, eggs and hashbrowns. We did go on a weekday, so it wasn't that busy. There was about 5 tables besides us.
The food came fast, the price is reasonable and the service was impeccable. He checked on us and kept the coffee and hot water for tea topped up. Smiles and you could tell he enjoyed his job. Makes the experience better.
I will go back again for my fav brekkie.

Nellie's is a local favourite, and we saw why. The meal tasted great and wasn't terribly expensive. They also didn't charge extra for the gluten free bread.
