Absolutely wonderful coffee house in Vancouver! As if we visited Paris in France, but the taste of cakes is just unique and deserves all praise! I never tried such delicious cakes in Paris! Bravo chef, Elena Chernova, BRAVO! We certainly recommend to all your friends certainly visit Mon Paris Patisserie in Metrotown.
Recently, there are a lot of new cafes and dessert places opened in Burnaby, and one of my favorite would be Mon Paris Patisserie. It has a very classy and simple interior design. As soon as you step in the store, you can smell the aroma of chocolate. The pastries and sweets are displayed beautifully, and what always caught my attention are the bonbons!
I was quite excited when Mon Paris opened up in Burnaby. I was following them on Instagram and the cakes were just beautiful! I also love that it’s near the Metrotown Skytrain station, which means easy access from Coquitlam or downtown. I took my mom there, who also loves some good pastries.
This is a relatively new bakery that offers some really gorgeous-looking cakes and tarts, as well as chocolates and croissants. So far, I've had the chance to try their Russian Honey, Pistachio Turnover, and Opera (see below for details on each). Although nothing completely blew me away, I did enjoy all the desserts, especially the Russian Honey. Although their prices are a tad on the higher side, everything seems to be made with great ingredients and attention to detail, so I think that it's worthwhile. I really hope that this place does well; I'd love to come back to sample some of their other pretty desserts.
Russian Honey ($6)
4.5/5
This consisted of two thin layers of honey-flavoured cake sandwiching a layer of honey mousse and topped with a thick layer of vanilla mousse and whipped cream. Both layers of mousse were smooth and creamy, and sublty sweet. The cake and mousse both had a good assertive honey flavour, which I really liked. The whipped cream topping was fresh and sweet, and speckled with bits of vanilla.
Pistachio Turnover ($3.5)
3/5
The dough was flaky and enjoyable enough, though it pales somewhat in comparison to other places like Beaucoup or Small Victory. Although there was a generous amount of pistachio filling present, I personally found the filling to be a bit on the bland side without any real distinctive flavour. Even though I did like this, it isn't really particularly memorable.
Opera ($6)
4/5
This consisted of a thick layer of coffee mousse sandwiched between two layers of coffee cake with a thinner layer of chocolate mousee topped with a bittersweet chocolate ganache. I was initially caught off guard by the flavour: the dessert wasn't sweet at all, but had a mild bitter taste. The dessert did grow on me however as I continued on eating. Once again, the layers of mousse were smooth and velvety, with great assertive chocolate and coffee flavours. Unfortunately, I didn't really enjoy the cake layers as much: they were bland and had a slightly rubbery texture. This is definitely something for those who enjoy coffee or prefer their desserts to be on the bittersweet side.
Best of bakery in Burnaby, hands down. I'm so grateful this shop opened near where I live, now I never need to go downtown or North Vancouver for some gourmet cakes, macaroons or chocolates when I want to spoil myself. The chocolates are beautifully decorated and very very delicious. Wonderful to give away as gifts too! The macaroons are great, though some of the flavours are a bit sweet for me, I can eat the salted caramel one all day. Can't wait to go back 🤗!
Located across the street from Metropolis at Metrotown, Mon Paris Patisserie is Burnaby’s newest European-style patisserie and cafe. Driven by quality and visual appeal, patisserie owner and French-trained Pastry Chef Elena Krasnova sees her sweet offerings as imaginative works of texture and flavour; pieces of art in every chocolates, dessert, and tart. Among many signature creations, Chef Elena showcases a modern take on classic French desserts like the ‘Opera’ (intense coffee flavours melded with moist dark chocolate mousse), the Passionata (biscuit madeleine with honey and raw sugar, mango brunoise and passion fruit mousse), and the Lumi (almond biscuit with crunchy, cherry confit and light lemon mousse).
