If you like real good fish & chips, this is the place plus the garlicky biscuit that comes with the soup is to die for! I almost wanna ask for the recipe as it’s a taste I won’t forget.
Outstanding Chicken Club with super-moist pulled chicken and refreshing cranberry mayo. Surprisingly family friendly. Would love to check out a band sometime.
We used to visit this restaurant often when it was Kelsey's but hadn't tried it since it was rebranded. However, we had a coupon, so, like any cost conscious Winnipegers, we had to see if it was still a decent place to eat (Kelsey's and Fionn MacCool's are both part of the same chain).
We went for lunch while out shopping on Saturday, and it wasn't busy at all. We were greeted and seated right away, and our server, Caitin, got our drinks quickly. I ordered the Butter Chicken, and my wife, who is vegetarian, ordered the Cauliflower Curry.
Our meals arrived at the table quickly, piping hot (cold restaurant food is a huge pet peeve). My butter chicken was very tasty - downright delish, as a matter of fact - but my wife was totally unimpressed with her curry. You know how some hot dishes are so over-spiced that you can't taste anything but the spice? That was my impression of her dish... and in addition, it had a nasty, bitter aftertaste. She wasn't happy, and was wishing she had opted for the veggie burger (the only other vegetarian item on the menu). I have to wonder if anyone in the kitchen has tasted the sauce...
The service was quick, and Caitlin was outgoing and friendly... Perhaps we'll try it again to see if they can do better with another dish. Myself, I'd like to try the fish and chips. I hear that it's pretty good...
We checked out this place last Friday night and we weren't disappointed. The place was starting to get busy and seated right away. They had a specials for a dollar off of Miller's Creek pint. I ordered for the hamburger and was really good. My friend ordered for the shepard's pie and said it was delicious. Fast friendly service. Our server Rose was very nice she took off a certain percentage from our bills when she missed the ceasar's salad as side for the shepard's pie. Overall, we enjoyed our visit here.
If you like fish and chips, this is the place for you! The best I've had so far! Cool atmosphere and service is pretty good..I have been there a couple times now and was not disappointed in the food, I have yet to see any live music however.
my wife and I have been to fionn maccool's a number of times. the food is always great, serving staff friendly, and beers huge and tasty. on the weekends they will often have live bands which just adds to there already cool atmosphere. I really can't say enough about the place. if you haven't already been definitely worth checking out.
My husband and I decided to try this place out for late lunch/early dinner. Arrived to an almost empty dining room. One table was occupied in the entire room by a couple with two VERY vocal young children. Instead of giving us a booth, they give us a table right next to the noisy children. Had to ask to be moved so we could hear each other.
After viewing the menu I had decided on the lamb shank. I was told they were out. Instead ordered the fettuccine alfredo with chicken and asparagus as I figured they would have to have that. My husband wanted to try the fish and chips.
Now this is where things start to improve. My husband and I were not feeling 100% that day because let's just say we had a REALLY good time at the Jet's game the night before. I thought my husband was going to fall over when he saw his plate land in front of him. He ordered two pieces of fish instead of one and the pieces were MASSIVE. Under normal conditions he would probably be able to tackle that, but after the night before, not so much. He had to take food home for probably the first time in our entire marriage. We both thought our meals tasted terrific.
So there were a couple hiccups at the start, but at the end of the day our meals were very good, the portions were very generous and the cost was very reasonable. May end up trying this place out again.
Has pretty good Irish pub food! I enjoy the mini shepherd's pie appetizer and fish and chips. The batter on the fish is very thick and crunchy. I like that it holds up, but you do have to eat it fast since the moisture from the fish will cause it to soften after a few minutes. One piece is about 7-8 inches long so for lunch one piece would be a good order.
Looks like a typical Irish bar with lots of gold ornate decorations. I've gone her twice for lunch and would assume it is pretty packed during games at night. Big bar would be good to come with a group
Ambience was very pub-like. I went here with my man and my friend to celebrate his birthday, we didn't announce it was his birthday just because... Anyways! Good food, was a little disappointed with my Maple Cider Salmon, was a little small in portion, and I was looking for something low carb at the time. Definitely not ordering that again at the price I paid for.
Their guiness poutine however was good! I think that was one that the three of us ended up splitting. I would come back here again to try the other stuff but I need to budget wisely and ask how big the portions are next time I order. Writing this review makes me wanna go back for another poutine! Perhaps I can re-evaluate my review or add onto this. Who knew guiness and poutine was a good mix.
Great service! Waitress was super sweet, love the atmosphere and amazing food! Very clean, nice music, just an overall enjoyable place! Reminded us just of the pubs we visited in Ireland
