Given the option of going to yum cha or for Taiwanese beef noodle, my dad jumped at the opportunity for noodles. Yes, we are aware that yum cha is awesome in Vancouver, but we have been deprived of noodles for quite some time. The thick springy noodles did its job to satisfy my dad's craving for noodle and the hearty broth warmed our belly. It could however benefit from a richer and deeper flavour, and the spicy was not spicy enough. What did wowed us was the beef. The beef shank melted in our mouth, the tripe was bouncy and juicy, and the tendon was very tender. A bit more of the meats and a little less noodles, and we would be very happy campers indeed.
I went to Chef Hung in West Vancouver for a quick lunch with my friend. When she suggested it I was a bit nervous since Chinese Food usually raises my sugar level (usually it’s starchy). To my surprise, there were many low-carb friendly meals, even though it’s a noodle house. I ordered the beef soup and marinated tofu noodle (appetizer). They were delicious! I usually check my blood sugar level after eating a new meal, but unfortunately I didn’t bring my BG tester. I think it’s low carb because the beef soup was clear soup and not thick at all. Low carbers have to stay away from thick soup because that means a lot of starch is used. The tofu noodle, if it 100% tofu, then it shouldn’t raise my sugar level too much. It’s a small plate. I checked with the server if it was sweet and she said there’s no sugar. It was very delicious and great combo with the beef soup. I was fully satisfied. Service was great, the free tea was hot and tasty, and the meal came really fast so we were able to go back to work on time.
Way better then the richmond location. Service and food is way better then the richmond location. I usually get the tomato broth dish it's pretty nice. Some of their appies are good too if your a fan of century egg. Wish they stayed open later.
Best lunch on a cold blustery day!. No place better on a cold or rainy day than Chef Hung's. I've tried lots of different versions of their noodle soups and loved every one. Hot, savory and filling. Fast service.
Way better than the Richmond location. Food and service pretty good!
Gave it a second chance, and I'm impressed. I visited them the first time in Richmond years ago. Despite all the awards, I remember it was not impressive AT ALL! I recalled it being really watered down. However, we gave it a second try a few weeks ago at the West Van location, it was really good! I wanted more the next day!! Will definitely go back to the Richmond location for another try.
Very Good but Relatively Expensive. It was the first time I tried Taiwanese beef noodle. I ordered the Champion Beef Brisket in clear soup with flat noodles. The beef brisket is very tender and the soup was very tasty. However, I found the portion to be a little small and there is only a lonely piece of vegetable. I also ordered a side dish of chicken nuggets, it tasted very fresh and the marinating was just perfect. Overall, the food was very good.
Great food great price!!!!. This place is fantastic. The best beef noodle soup I have ever had.The service was fast and polite.Great spot for a dinner or lunch. Also try the shave ice for desert very lite and delicious, the price was also very reasonable.
I always enjoy eating at chef hung. We like to order their beef soups and the dry noodle. Pan fry chive dumpling is a must try. If you have room left, their shaved ice is to die for. They sometimes have lychee flavoured which is now my favourite!
Attentive service, excellent noodles! Thick and chewy, with the perfect texture of al-dente.
Husband dropped his chopsticks and a server quietly appeared in 2 seconds to replace them.
They need to streamline their service ad keep it consistent, as the Aberdeen one has a lot to learn from this one from West Vancouver.
Keep it up, we will be back!
