One of the best Indian buffets in Victoria. They are sometimes inconsistent in the varieties for vegetarians but their starters are awesome. Once I even was lucky enough to be able to try vegetable spring rolls that were just amazing. If you get lucky, you will be in for one of the finest buffets, if not, I still recommend you go and eat their starters as your main course.
We are so pleased to have this excellent Indian restaurant in the neighbourhood. We stopped by for dinner the other night and our meal was fantastic. We had fish tikka and the fish was incredibly succulent, juicy and flavourful and not overpowered by the spice. We also had Achaaria Paneer, which was probably our favourite, as the sauce was an excellent blend of richness and tartness and the paneer was wonderful. We also had goat curry which, again, had bright flavours and the meat was so delicious and beautifully cooked. The garlic naan was delicious too. We also had two deserts and a beer. All of this for $65, which I think is an excellent price, given we were full after the meal, but able to take some leftovers home. The service was attentive and the staff were very friendly. We look forward to returning and also making use of the take-out service, as well as trying the extremely well priced $12.99 lunch buffet. Wonderful to have this new addition in the neighbourhood.
Best Indian food in Victoria. Chicken tikka masala and lamb Rogan josh are especially good. I even like their dal, which usually I am not a big fan off. Great service too!
Five for FLAVOUR.
This was easily the best indian food Ive ever eaten.
The boss took us for the buffet lunch.
$12.99
Not an overly extensive selection of items, but most of what Ive had at other similarly priced indian food buffets.
Again,...that was'nt what made this such a great lunch.
Every item I tried tasted fantastic. Fresh.
Wonderfully spiced,...I keep thinking the best descriptive for the flavours was "bright".
Modern decor, a nice sense of openness in the dining room.
Im not coming back for that tho,...the food,...oh YES, the food.
The Mantra served up a remarkable Indian vegetarian meal for us. My son and I were running late for a show and so we asked for help picking "quick selections". The server helped us choose the Channa (chickpeas), Vegetable Vindaloo and Fish Pakoras. The food not only came up really quickly, but it was one of the best meals I have had in months. Don't go there and expect fast food, go there and expect amazing Indian food cooked by a complete pro. I really cannot say enough to describe the level of quality and skills required in balancing so many complex flavours. The Vegetable Vindaloo was elegant and fierce. The Channa tasted like Channa you get in Delhi - just perfect. Careless or rookie chefs can make Indian foods taste over-cooked, The Mantra made exceedingly fresh tasting recipes. My son described the Fish Pakoras "all the textures are right"- they had a perfectly crispy crusts with delicately cooked and extremely fresh fish. The Naan was also pretty fantastic. If you want food like its cooked in Delhi....in excellent restaurants, go to The Mantra. I'm reserving a scoring of 5 until my next visit.
Was pleasantly surprised to find this place quietly slipped in here! The chicken vindaloo was excellent, as was the daal. The onion naan was done perfectly, moist and lovely. Kerry's salty lassi got high marks for tangy high-quality yogurt, and the naan passed her breadmaking scrutiny with flying colours. The restaurant itself has gotten an upscale makeover, creating a great atmosphere with contemporary indian music playing in the background. Our dishes came in ornate metal bowls heated with tealights - a nice touch! Friendly, nonintrusive staff sealed the deal... we will be back, and are looking forward to trying the lunch buffet that runs from 11-3. And they deliver! I recommend this place for anyone with a love of quality indian cuisine who happens to be in the Tillicum Mall neighbourhood.
