Just what you'd expect from a small family run pho restaurant. What it may lack in service it makes up for in the food and it doesn't take long at all for your food to arrive. It's a tiny restaurant just before Grandview on Rupert with lots of Street parking. It's not the most well kept but it does deliver flavour and for a decent price too. I had one of their pork and spring roll vermicelli bowls. I had to share half with my partner because it was too much for one person but the spring rolls were crispy and not too oily, with your typical filing and the pork was actually quite flavorful and for someone who doesn't usually enjoy pork I found it wasn't overly Salty and goes perfectly with the garlicky chili sauce they give on the side. Would I go again? If I'm looking for a quick cheap bite to eat, yep!
In the last 5 years I've been here..say..97 times. I've liked this place since day 1. So much so that I tell everyone about it, and they all like it too. The pho broth is one of the best around which is why this place is such a hit.
The rice and vermicelli dishes are average to above average depending on how picky you are. I have all 3 types of dishes on rotation. #1, #36 and #56.
It's a small place so if you want to have a private conversation with your pals, this isn't the place to go. Cash only. It keeps the prices down.
Small hole-in-the-wall restaurant, seats 24. About 1/3 full on a 3pm on a Friday. Ordered #37: skewered pork, shredded pork, spring roll, veggies, vermicelli. Waited about 12 minutes for food to come.
Nice looking plate, healthy portion size. Veggies looked fresh and crisp and there was some basil and chiles too. Spring roll was piping hot and crunchy. Skewered pork was tender and tasty. Shredded pork was mostly the gelatinous fatty kind. I'm not a fan of fatty foods, but being cut so thin, I didn't mind it at all.
Ambience however is lacking. The place is clean but it looks like it's falling apart. Also saw a guy carry away two small, tightly wrapped garbage bags away in plastic buckets through the front door. Might have been garbage, which is possibly a health code violation?
The best viet joints are a bit dirty though, and the food was pretty good. I may stop by again if I'm in the neighborhood to try the pho.
