Today was the perfect day to check out the newest liquid nitrogen ice cream shoppe: 77K on Commercial Drive. With the heat of the sun baring down, and their fully open entrance, I found them most inviting. Not to mention the promise proposed by their chilly name. Walking in I already felt cooler. The space was neat and clean with their cohesive motif, the entire shoppe was decorated icy. Oversized plastic ice cubes spelled out “F-R-E-E-Z-E” by the door, six pointed white and blue snowflakes decorated the counter; and an all ice white interior with matching lacquer high top stools, and granite table tops twinkled with crystals. And funnily, the poster that greeted you at their threshold reassured you that their coffee is piping hot, but their desserts makes “Mars look warm”. Little did I know, this scientific joke was foreshadowing for the tone of the event to come.
GUILTLESS DESSERTS ?!?! I heard about this liquid nitrogen fresh made ice-cream for some time now and so happened bf and I passed by one today so decided we have to give it a try.
Wow! It tasted so different from the shop bought stuff I can't believe it. Don't think I will ever enjoy ordinary ice-cream again LOL. The staff are very friendly and obviously passionate about making ice-cream desserts. They have several signature flavors on the menu that you just cannot get from other shops.
Seeing the big cup of ice-cream in the hand of the person ahead of us (3 full scoops !) we thought we'd just get one to share - the Snowflake signature flavor. I tell you, forget about sharing if you go there because it's so good you'd want the whole thing to yourself LOL. So after inhaling the Snowflake in record time we decided to get the Oh! Canada - the vegan way (bf is a bit of health geek). You cannot tell there is no diary in this! It's so smooth and creamy, how do they do that? Apparently something about the quick churning with liquid nitrogen gives it that zing without additives.
And then the owner gave us a very sizable sample of their new invention - Go Green! just amazing, the taste is nothing greeny other then the color and its 100% Vegan! Needless to say I told the few Vegan friends and they were all so excited about it.
The fact that you can customize the ingredients really fit the "guiltless dessert" name. They have soy base as well as using Stevia for the diabetics. Where else can you find dessert makers that will cater for the special needs people?? Mom is a diabetic so she's already telling me to bring her here next week.
Definitely going back again, with mom, with bf, with friends.....and soon LOL. Going to try all the signature flavors (there are like 6/7 of them?). What a great find!
