Chinese take out favourite!
Ordered via Skip the Dishes. Food was delivered red hot & in usable containers.
Generous portions & presented beautifully.
Ordered the bbq pork & shrimp fried rice, a little salty for my taste but had all the right flavours. The most important flavour is the one where you can taste it’s been cooked using a flame fired wok.
The honey garlic chicken (boneless) is sticky sweet crunchy & absolutely delicious. Everything you want for honey chicken. Crispy battered coated deep fried chicken covered in that sweet honey sauce.
The mixed vegetables with black bean was a standard but again that wok flavour emerges making it taste amazing.
My recommendation- bbq pork & shrimp fried rice!
This is my favourite Chinese restaurant for many reasons. The food is always fresh, very generous portions and extremely tasty. The prices are reasonable by comparison to many other Chinese restaurants with a wide selection of choices. The owners and staff take the time to know your name and get to know your favourites when you are a regular. Be prepared to wait because all dishes are made fresh not mass pre-cooked and then just heated. They have just redone the eating area so that they are not just a take away. So pop in, enjoy complimentary tea, relax and have a first class Chinese meal.
The first time we had food from New Sun was the day we had moved - you know what it's like - exhausted and famished after a long day. Well, here we are 10 years later and New Sun is still our "go to" take out Chinese restaurant. Never disappointed - and yes, there are more new-style and exotic Chinese restaurants, but this is still our favourite.
Right. So this is a small independent restaurant just trying to make a buck in the big bad city. So cut it a bit of slack if your food is a bit delayed. We have to say this, the spicy boneless garlic pork is killer. Ass-ripping, if you happen to have a cold. So give it a try. The seasonal vegetables in black bean sauce are a good accompaniment. The egg rolls are greasily divine. Sure, you can't eat them every day, but let's face it, you're tired and you don't want to cook. So allow yourself a hall pass and enjoy.
Recently, I had to make a trip down to Broadway to buy a coffee maker. After making the purchase I walked along Broadway from Willow to Cambie Street looking for a new place to get something to eat. While there are many great looking places there, none really appealed to my mood. I was looking for something else. Mexican... Chinese... maybe, but I still didn't see anything to my liking. I took a seat in the outdoor patio of Mucho Burrito and took advantage of their WiFi. What did Zomato have to say?I came across the listing for New Sun Szechuan Restaurant. The review by Eastvanfoodie caught my eye: "Sometimes you just want old school, greasy, Chinese-canadian food like you grew up with in whatever white-as-hell suburb you came from. (yes im talking about chicken balls and sweet n' sour sauce) New Sun is exactly that."Exactly what Richmond has been missing since the Brighouse Café, Richmond Gardens, and the old Bamboo Grove closed. Don't get me wrong - Richmond has some great Chinese restaurants, some of the best. But they are not well suited for someone dining alone. Anyone remember Combo Dinners for One? I jumped a bus to climb the hill up Cambie from Broadway and got off at 12th Avenue and walked the short block to 13th. There it was, a throw-back to the 1970's. The New Sun Restaurant. I opened the door and walked in. The small dining room was empty with the exception of the owner who was seated at the table closest to the kitchen. He was enjoying a bowl of noodle soup.He immediately jumped up and greeted me, bringing me a menu. He saw my new coffee maker on the table beside me and commented how nice it was.A few minutes later, the owners wife came out and took my order. Combo Dinner A and a half order of Ginger Fried Beef. A few minutes of noise from the kitchen and out came my two dishes. They looked great. Tasted even better. Good size portions of Chicken Fried Rice, Sweet & Sour Boneless Pork, and Beef Chop Suey. The Ginger Fried Beef was very generous for a "half" order. My only complaint, if you can call it that, would be about the Ginger Fried Beef. While I certainly enjoyed it, it was not what I was used to. I first tried it many years ago while in Calgary, Alberta where it is reported the dish was first conceived. I would have liked to see the dish closer to what I had in Calgary. I also would have liked to see the pieces of beef cut smaller. It is really hard to cut them into bite-size pieces with nothing more than a fork. Still a good, if not perfect dish.Interesting enough, there were no other walk-in customers the entire time I was there. The phone rang quite a bit, and I saw a number of deliver orders getting packed into insulated food carriers, but no one came into the dining room. Now this was on a Wednesday night just before the fireworks at English Bay, so I don't know how normal a night this would have been for them. I could hear the explosions of the fireworks when I got off the bus at the Broadway SkyTrain station. I escaped downtown before the crowds jammed the trains. All in all, a good day with a great meal. I will be back to the New Sun. I can hardly wait to try some of the other dishes.
Mmmm. Sometimes you just want old school, greasy, Chinese-canadian food like you grew up with in whatever white-as-hell suburb you came from. (yes im talking about chicken balls and sweet n' sour sauce) New Sun is exactly that.
If you're looking for authentic chinese food, don't bother with this place. However if you want super yummy, affordable, Chinese-Canadian food you will not be disappointed. super affordable, awesome delivery range, tons of good combo options. addictive as hell.
Spot on for Old School Chinese Delivery. When the craving strikes for Western style basic Chinese food this place delivers. The unnecessarily huge portions are a bonus but the Sweet and sour pork, Deep fried prawns and the Chicken chow mein were just what we were in the mood for. Guilty pleasure. Two thumbs up!
I order from here often. The food is either really good or late and soggy. I've stopped even getting mad at them. It is what it is I guess?
This is my go to Chinese take-out restaurant. I've ordered here 3-4 times before and have never been disappointed. The portions are large and food is of good quality. The only downside is the 45min-1hour wait for delivery but I think it's worth the wait.

Ordered take out in hopes of finding a Chinese food restaurant that could compare to the Tsawwassen Quay's Wok & Roll. (regular ferry-goers you know what I'm talking about). Were very pleased with the findings and can even have been quoted as saying: 'this is the best chop suey I've ever had'. Totally worth fending off the gang of raccoons who tried to shiv us for the food.
