Carp is my favourite Japanese kitchen in Vancouver that serves the best classic poké bowls in the city. With ocean-wise, wild fish by default, the quality and taste of sashimi alone is several cuts above the rest of the local competition.
My favourite bowls are the salmon poke and chirashi don. I could eat these dishes again and again, and I often do! Either goes great with the miso soup + kale/green bean gomae combo. If you have room for rolls, I recommend the salmon/eel roll, crunch roll, and negitoro roll.
Carp has a humble seating capacity, but their food quality expands far beyond the restaurant. They are often busy at dinner time so be prepared to order take out.
Today I was getting together with a handful of local food bloggers. Just an occasion of regular friends hanging out and having dinner. Diana of “Foodology” choose the restaurant, admitting she really likes small places that are under the radar. And this was certainly that. Located on a side street with little more than a small chalkboard sign up front and their name above the door. I missed them on the first time circling the block.
This place is a little neighbourhood gem. Delicious poke bowls, fresh sushi and yummy Japanese curry. The employees are super friendly and really fast. I'd 100% recommend the salmon poke bowl and mango roll!
Fresh, simple, delicious. Chef Yuki knows what he's doing and always smiling!
Not a ton of "special" rolls like you'll find at other places, but in all honesty sometimes things like cream cheese have no business being in a sushi roll.
2016 will come down as the year that poke finally arrived in Vancouver. Poke (pronounced po-keh) is a simple but classic dish that we fell in love with when we visited Hawaii… cubed, fresh, raw fish, marinated in special sauces (mainly shoyu, sesame oil, and/or spicy mayo). Carp Sushi, as you can tell by their name, isn’t actually a dedicated poke restaurant. However, they do make one of the more traditionally Hawaiian-inspired poke bowls at this time. That shouldn’t be a surprise since poke takes a lot of influence from Japanese cuisine.

Out of the five available choices, they surprisingly had Anago Nigiri, which is among my favourite types of nigiri. Also to my delight was the fact that the sushi rice here was good. The sockeye salmon could have a smoother texture, but the tuna melted in my mouth wonderfully and was fatty enough to be considered toro. The sea eel featured a rich, grilled flavour
Very good restaurant, the rolls were really good and so was the other thing we got but I forgot how it was called... It is not very big but has a nice neighborhood feel. The prices are reasonable and the owners are very welcoming.
Carp Sushi and Bento is a little Japanese take out restaurant located near Kingsgate Mall. A friend of ours highly recommended this place for their sashimi and rolls. M and I decided to come here after work for a quick dinner, it would have been quicker, but I ended up wanting to try so many items off the menu. Sometimes I can be such a pig.

Overall, all the items were really good. If you want to try a bit of everything and not want to spend too much, the bento boxes are a great option for under $10.
I would come here again. Awesome hidden gem.
