This is a pub located near the UBC Rose Garden that's quite popular among staff and students of UBC. They serve a pretty good menu of drinks as well as food. I went there with several of my colleagues for a work party. Being a non-drinker, I just had their Kogi Fried Chicken Sandwich, which was very good. The staff wasn't the friendliest, but it might just be because we were such a large group, it's more difficult for them to manage. All in all, this is a solid joint that's definitely worth visiting.
Kogi Fried Chicken Sandwich (with fries) ($13.95):
4/5
This consisted of a brioche bun filled with fried chicken, kogi mayo, jalapenos and other vegetables, and comes with your choice of fries, salad or soup (I had the fries). The brioche bun was soft and fluffy, and had a nice bit of sweetness. The chicken had a great crispiness, and was tender and juicy. The mayo had a nice sweetness that paired well with the chicken. The fries were quite crispy.
Summary:
Food: 4/5
Price: 4/5
Service: 3/5
Overall: 3.5/5
Recommendations: Kogi Fried Chicken Sandwich
This place gets quite busy at lunch time, I haven't had the chance to try their alcohol but the food here is alright. Of course any UBC food is pricey so don't expect it to be a cheap joint. I had the vegetarian curry this, not too sure what it was specifically called and it was quite delicious. The service was mediocre, it was quite busy so we did have to wait quite a while for them to take our order and for the food which was quite irritating because I was on my lunch break but whatever.
Unbeknownst to the undergrads, Koerner's Pub at UBC is known as the pub where all the cool grad students/people with fancy PhDs hang out ;). I, for one, as a naive, half delusional undergrad (what am I doing with my life?) have never heard of Koerner's Pub until Food Wench tipped me off about their awesome burgers!! :D
