Best place to watch the Germany games during World Cup and Euro. Good beer & food, fun place!
Marvellous, authentic German cuisine and have been visited for no less than 10 times. Diet advocates might shout loudly for health concern with the crunchy-roasted pork hock but once or twice a year would shoot up cholesterol.
Decent selection of traditional German and Austrian beer. Be a safe driver, I only took on an "AlkoholFrei" this time.
Will keep visiting in the future, for sure.
Well done schnitzel! Its a pirce of pork, brrad crumbs and dine well! Mos mt ola es screw up simplicity. Their red cabbage was soo tasty, pickled and balanced sweetness with spatzle. Is it mind blowing, not evem close but its well do e I had tp eat it ALL! Like great German home cooking! Joanne my servwr was great and friendly people in the place, german patrons whom said this is LEGIT GERMAN!
德國會館的傳統風味餐廳
加拿大是一個容納多元文化的移民國家，所以在溫哥華隨時可以吃到由不同國家移民所引進的傳統美食。由於政局關係，歐洲移民當中以法國和東歐最多，而德國為數較少，因此溫哥華的德國餐館也相對較少。這家位於Victoria Drive華人和越南商店街上的 “Deutsches Haus”就是其中一家寥寥可數的德國餐館。該餐廳屬於1935年成立的溫哥華德國會館Vancouver Alpen Club的一部份，這裡是個溫哥華當地德國僑民的文化和社交中心。會館佔地廣懋，光是附設在地下層餐廳寬敞到可開五六十桌，據說各大社團都經常在此舉辦活動，甚至婚宴。該會會址除了餐廳對外開放外，其他部份主要用作私人用途，例如禮堂租借作為舉辦各種文化活動和節日慶典場地，而最觸目的節慶莫如每年10月舉行的Oktoberfest啤酒節。
會館建築物的外牆用富有中世紀的徽記盾牌作為裝飾，非常突出。兩旁設有兩個免費露天停車場，包括正門的入口共有三處，但平日只有其中一個露天停車場旁的入口開放直達餐廳。餐房以大量木造材料作為裝飾，包括間隔和桌椅甚至牆壁都盡顯德國中世紀的傳統文化特色。餐牌上大部分以肉食為主，包括bratwurst sausages德國香腸、schnitze吉列豬扒和Pork Hock豬手，當然啤酒也是這裡的主角啦！每週二、三、四餐廳都有指定特價餐點供應，而今天週四的優惠是Pork Hock

During one of my trips to Frankfurt, I had to visit a small town down just south called Karlsruhe where my company has an office. According to the locals, this was home of spaetzle, a German dish. Let me tell you, home or not, that stuff was freaking delicious Fast forward to a few weeks ago, Jar Jar’s birthday, and he decided to get a bunch of friends together for dinner over at the German Club… Alpen Club… Deutches Haus… whatever you want to call it. Now, I’ve known about this place for almost 15 years now thanks for my mom. We used to live just a few blocks from them and it was where my mom would go to dance on the weekends with her girlfriends. I never realized they actually had a restaurant inside until recent years but never found the opportunity to go. Well, I wasn’t about to turn down his birthday invitation, especially when I saw spaetzle on the menu. Little Bunny and Ninja Stripper (Jar Jar’s wife) have become good friends over the last 6 months, so she decided to tag along as well.

Nestled into an area more well known for Vietnamese and Chinese shops, this jewel is a German restaurant at it's best. Popular with German speakers as a place to hang out, it is an authentic taste of Germany. A reminder that, like most German restaurants, it is pricy.
We went on a thurs when they had the pork hock special for half price. We also ordered a salad and beef roulade. It was quite weird that all 3 dishes came to our table all at once... Anyhow... The salad was fresh and crispy with the right amount of sauce, the roulade with the pickled cabbage was mouthwatering good and the pork hock was tender and moist. There was not as much meat around the bone on the pork hock as I thought though... actually the piece we had only had little meat. Two of us ended finishing everything and still can eat a dessert. The Apple strudel was so good. Came out warm and with vanilla ice cream it was a perfect combination.
After my friend successfully defended her masters' thesis, we decided that the occasion called for a visit to one of Vancouver's few German restaurants.
The restaurant is part of Alpen Club, so they keep having events throughout the week. They also have a ballroom space, and host dancing nights. We chose to go on a Thursday, because they have Haxen Thursday, serving $11.99 pork hocks - pretty much everyone on our table of 13-15 ordered the same.
The pork hocks are enormous, and so amazing - crispy on the outside and soft and juicy on the inside! They also do schnitzel Tuesdays, and that's next on my list to try. They were also running a few specials on beer when we'd gone, offering a pitcher for $19 or so.
The place looks pretty nice, good for a not-so-casual dinner. :)
Pro Tip: Go on a Thursday, seriously.
Great Authentic Experience. The Schnitzel is fantastic. To get the same quality you'd have to fly to Germany. The beer is the best you'll find in town. I highly recommend you check this place out.
