I came here with a Groupon, but I'm really surprised this restaurant was even registered with Groupon as it seemed pretty popular. It doesn't appear much from the outside, but when you step it, the interior is quite sleek. There is also a bar at the back of the restaurant for drinks.

I ordered the Pork belly with Ginger and garlic and my boyfriend ordered the teriyaki chicken dish. Each came with 3 side dishes: an egg, seasoned peas and pickles. It was definitely a huge meal! The pork was slightly hard to chew, but overall, the flavour was amazing (the teriyaki chicken was definitely a winner!)

This place is a must-go, especially with the Groupon. It's also in a super convenient location in Yaletown, so I'd absolutely recommend trying it out!!

I have tried Sushi Bella which is a decent sushi joint operated by the same owners so naturally I had to check out their latest establishment: Bistro Hatzu. We were a group of 4 and had the following: spicy chunky sashimi, ebi mayo, chicken karaage, I got lazy roll, rib eye steak roll, hot stone bowl and lastly steaky don. All were excellent taste and presentation wise. Portions are decent. Servers were attentive and friendly. As far as the style of the cuisine goes, its not traditional in the slightest so if you're an aficionado of traditional Japanese cuisine this place might let you down. However, if you just love reasonably priced delicious food you will enjoy Bistro Hatzu. Would I go back? Definitely.

Today I was invited to “Hatzu” for a media tasting like no other. I was the plus one to Jacqueline of @porkninja fame, and we were two of a panel of over 15 people invited to give invaluable feedback to the restaurant, in the form of a tasting panel. Our resulting feedback would be used to determine their newest menu, set to launch in the upcoming week.

I enjoyed the food here a lot. The sushi is a bit on the pricy side but that's ok. I ordered the Hatzu crunch tower and oh boy it was absolutely delicious! (and instagram worthy) Service was good for the most part but the waitresses kept coming up to us like every 5 minutes to see if everything is ok lol. Definitely recommended if you're looking for a good sushi place in the west end.

Japanese Bistro Hatzu is located on Davie Street Vancouver, which is across the street from the Greek Food Restaurant. We’ve been to this restaurant only once by accident. We actually planned to have a Greek Food, but there were so many people waiting outside the restaurant. In this way, we decided to find some other restaurant nearby. Japanese Bistro Hatzu is a few minutes walking and across the street, so we decided to go there. We arrived the restaurant right during the dinner time. The restaurant was busy. After a few minutes waiting, we got a table and server let us move in. The atmosphere of the restaurant was nice and clean. All the servers were really nice and friendly. They all wear the uniform. When they saw you confused about the menu, some of them would come to you to help. We ordered Sashimi Don, Beef Teriyaki, and Tofu Teriyaki. The food came fast Sashimi was really fresh. Beef and Tofu Teriyaki were well cooked and tasted great.

We actually weren't planning to come here, but the restaurant we wanted to try was closed and this was close by. When we got there, most of the tables were filled and there was only space at the bar. But a few minutes later, a table opened up and the server offered to let us move, which was nice. Service overall was really good.

We tried the salmon battera, beef udon, and the ocean albacore roll. The size of the battera was quite large. I think there was too much rice with this one. But their flavours were pretty good and slightly different from other oshi sushi I've had. The beef udon was a good size and there was lots of beef. Only thing was the beef was still kind of clumped together into one piece. The ocean albacore roll was OK. I thought the sauce was a bit too overpowering.

Overall the food was good, but I don't think I'd go out of my way to come back. Some of the things on the menu are a bit pricier than other places for similar items as well.

Small restaurant on Davie. It is more a fusion style of Japanese restaurant than a traditional one.
We ordered some rolls and some deep fried items, all pretty tasty.

I scanned the menu for things that looked like they would replenish my energy, and dancing shrimp seemed like a good option. The shrimp were meaty with a snap, and the truffle oil, balsamic reduction, and basil pesto blended well together. The creamy, savoury flavour of the shrimp was topped with a nice helping of bubbly masago

Sushi Bella is one of my go-to Japanese restaurant in downtown Vancouver and Kits area. This location is tucked away in the heart of Davie Street in the West End of Vancouver, Sushi Bella might go unnoticed amongst the raft of other restaurants that surround it, but once you try, I am sure it will be one of your go-to as well!
