Had dinner with a group of 10 people for a friend’s birthday celebration. The restaurant is very busy, staff are friendly, attentive and accommodating. The food was good and delicious but the Miso soup is cold. Washroom is a bit small for a busy restaurant. It’s very expensive but still highly recommended to try.
Shabusen's location on the second floor nearly threw a friend and I walking around as we nearly missed it. We went upstairs on a Thursday afternoon to try out their AYCE lunch menu. For $16-18, it's hard to complain when it has KBBQ and some Japanese dishes on it. We were immediately seated since the restaurant was about 3/4 full.
The menu seemed fairly large for an AYCE lunch. 8 pieces of sashimi each was good. I found the salmon to be fresh and good, however I did not enjoy the tuna sashimi. Cooked food overall was a highlight. It's funny though, they just plopped down the raw food on our table and put in a grill, then silently and casually walked off. My friend and I were stunned by it and eventually after a few minutes figured out that there was nothing else needed and how to turn it on ourselves. The food itself was average, however the price justified it.
Service was average. Nothing too great, nothing too bad besides that incident above. I'd come here for a quick AYCE lunch sushi fix when I'm downtown. All in all, recommended.
We have been going to Shabusen first in its previous Granville location and its current Burrard location for years. Never fails us. Hot delicious shabu shabu and sushi is good and fresh. Try lunch as it's less expensive and the food selection is almost as good!
