Very happy to discover this neighbourhood gem . Once it was very busy so I ordered my food to go. It's was excelant ( chicken boegoie ) most recently we dined in .Service was attentive. We tried two different dishes which came with tasty sides. The short ribs were yummy. We order a sweet & sour chicken dish that was ok, not my favourite . I ll be going on a regular bases

While the Punjabi Market area of Vancouver is primarily focused on Main Street between 49th and 51st, I’ve always considered the neighbouring area along Fraser Street to be an extension of the Punjabi Market. What you notice, however, is that there are a lot of different ethnic cuisines that are represented along Fraser including Chinese, Japanese, and Korean… such as So Hyang Korean Cuisine.

So Hyang Korean Cuisine has been on our radar for awhile now, and we finally went to check it out for lunch one weekend. The storefront is a bit small and easy to miss. But once you get inside, the restaurant is a lot bigger than it seems because it is long and narrow.

Seafood pancake: We knew that we wouldn’t be able to finish this, but we wanted to give it a try and pack the rest back for a later meal.

It was delicious! For my first few bites, all I could taste was the red and green peppers. There was a lot more vegetables than seafood. The pancake was crunchy outside while the inside was doughy and packed with ingredients.

So Hyang clearly has a huge fan base as it’s praised for being an authentic, family run Korean restaurant on restaurant happy Fraser Street. It’s located right beside a tailor shop and Shoppers Drug Mart. Maxim’s Bakery is a few doors down. We’ve been twice now and both times it was packed. We ended up waiting about 15 to 20 minutes for a table to open up. Saw a couple regulars skip the line as they had called ahead to make a reso.

I love the seafood pancake, it's crispy on the outside and flavourful. The cold noodles was also very satisfying, especially in the summer. They have good side dishes that's refillable. Come early to avoid dinner rush wait.

We had walked pass So Hyang Korean Cuisine several times since we have been dining around this area on Fridays. We decided to give it a try this time. We arrived around 6:30pm and the restaurant was full house. We waited for about half an hour before we got a table. Apparently, most of the customers have reservation.

This is a clean and comfortable restaurant located on Fraser, near 49th avenue serving up Korean food. I've had their Hae Mool Pa Jun (seafood pancake) and Dol Sot Bibim Bap (bibimbap served in a hot stone bowl), both of which were delicious. The service was also great; the food came quickly and the young women at the front of the house were very friendly and attentive, offering customers complimentary tea and free refills of side dishes. All in all, this is a very good restaurant, and I'd highly recommend it to anyone looking for some good Korean food.

Hae Mool Pa Jun ($18.95):

This came out fresh, crispy and sizzling hot, so much so in fact that I burned my hand a bit while trying to eat my first slice (painful but worth it!). I loved this pancake. It is kind of a cross between a pizza and a Chinese scallion pancake, and was topped with various vegetables, seafood (mostly squid), and shreds of crispy potatoes. It was served with a sweet and tangy vinaigrette that complimented the pancake very well. Although this is meant to be an appetizer (that's supposed to be shared between 2-3 people), it served well as a main lunch for me.

Dol Sot Bibim Bap ($12.95):
4/5
This consisted of rice topped with vegetables (mushrooms, bean sprouts, cucumbers, carrots), bulgogi beef, and a runny fried egg that's served in a sizzling hot bowl. I was very happy to find that the vegetables were seasoned and actually had flavour. The bulgogi was well-marinated and had a really nice sweet, slightly spicy taste. The rice was well-cooked and not mushy, and fantastic when crisped up by the hot stone bowl. My main gripe with the dish is that I did find them to be a bit stingy on the beef; I really could have done with a larger portion.

Side Dishes (Banchan):
The main courses are all served with four sides, including some kimchi, bean curd, bean sprouts and potatoes. I personally didn't really care for the kimchi - I do think it's a bit of an acquired taste - I actually ended up mixing it in with my bibimbap, which lent a nice flavour to the rice. The remaining three dishes were all quite tasty; my favourites were the potato and the bean curd. The staff offer free refills of the sides as well.

So Hyang is a Korean establisment located on Fraser Street in East Vancouver best known for their rice, noodle, and Korean BBQ dishes. I came here with my friend to try out their popular dishes like deep fried dumplings, galbi , and soft tofu soup!

Delicious and good value. We were a group of five and got the meal for four as well as a hot pot and we're left satisfied. Would definitely return.

Food was great and servers were so kind

Most food was spicy, but I could choose spicy
even if someone can't eat spicy food, they can serve that spicy food for less spicy

It was really good experience I will go again

Food was incredibly delicious and fresh! I've had hot pot so many times at various restaurants and no one has ever taken the time to actually explain how long to cook it for and when the meat should be added, etc. It was really refreshing that they took the time to do this. The staff was also lovely and very attentive, I would go back just for them. My only complaints are the size of the menu, as it was quite small, and the lack of side dishes. We only received 4 for our whole meal.

AWESOME PLACE, staff there were very kind and friendly. We had a fun conversation on several things like tennis with a staff for example and dishes were big for what we paid for. Would love to return to have another slice of that atmosphere I've enjoyed so much.

Japchae is so good! And their servers are quite nice too. Will come back for other dishes next time. One star off only because they seemed short-staffed (hard to get the servers for tea refill) and we weren’t able to get our side dishes refilled. But with that said, I’ll come back next time!

We had the Hot pot which was great.. we also tried the seafood pancake and steak, which were a bit on the fatty side.. but still had decent flavor. Tried some Korean sake too, which was somewhat sweet and packed a kick. Definitely worth a visit, staff we also friendly

Stopped in here for lunch the other day, needed something hearty for moving furniture all day and this Korean cuisine did the trick! I had the chicken combo which was absolutely perfect with high quality fresh chicken and an excellent robust and not too sweet flavor. The Mandoo dumplings were quite good and juicy too. Price point seems a wee bit high, and the booth seats maybe from a converted past restaurant are worn and torn. The staff very nice and positive. They even put up a hand written happy Family Day sign up for everyone.

I ordered from here as my celebration grad meal. Was it worth it? Hmm yeah but I wouldn’t be in a hurry to try this place again. There portion sizes are good for some dishes (the Kkan Pung Gi, deep fried chicken) but also not so great but average for other dishes like the LA Galbi (you can find better deals elsewhere). The Sun Leong Tang even after adding in all the salt and pepper they gave me I had to add in my own spices to liven it up! And read the items of the dish carefully cuz I thought I’d be getting some ox tail meat in there but to my disappointment only bulgogi slices where in there. But it is as it’s described in the menu. So they got me!

Delicious Korean meal, very authentic and great service. We had a dinner for 2 and added a soup. All the food came quickly in good portion sizes. The restaurant is small that will accommodate small families as most tables will fit maximum of 4-6. Overall, great experience and good food so we will be returning again to try some more dishes!

Great service and authentic delicious Korean food. I would say their bulgogi fried chicken and japchae are the best! Would skip the seafood pancake.
