The first Canadian L’Eclair de Genie location is right on our very own Robson Street and I can’t believe it’s already been 6 months since they’ve been open! I went to their grand opening event in the summer and I remember the anticipation, waiting to see what’s behind the doors of this worldwide eclair phenomenon.

They offer a wide variety of eclairs. They're well made and they have interesting flavors. The café is cute, and the staff are really friendly as well.

Personally, I am not a dessert fan. I don't really like Canadian desserts since they are all too sweet for me. One day, I saw my friend's Instagram photos on L’Éclair de Génie and its eclairs cute design, so I decided to go to have a try. We ordered salted caramel and chocolate one. Each of the eclairs had unquiet design and looked fantastic. I have tried both of them. I felt both of them taste were great (Not too sweet).  The only minus thing with this store is that all the eclairs are over prices.  Even though each eclair is well designed and attractive, they are super small for that prices. I wish they can be cheaper. In the store, they also have coffee beverages. Since we just had a big dinner, we didn't try the coffee. The services were nice and friendly. The ambiance was super clean and quiet. Great experience !!!

I was waiting this for twenty minutes. I have tasted yuzi, salted caramel, vanilla, and matcha. Yuzi (the orange one in photos) is my favorite. It perfectly combined sour and sweet, and became a symbol of summer. Awesome!

We tried their matcha green tea eclair. It tasted good. The presentation of each of the eclairs was fantastic. Obviously the chef put time and effort to design each presentation and ingredients on each piece.

They do have coffee beverages. We haven't tried them yet. Maybe next time.

Their customer service was great and very friendly. Servers would greet, smile and talk to customers.

This dessert place has published their own coloured booklets or brochures. They introduced their products, the restaurant itself across the world, and etc. The design is very colourful, attractive and vibrant. I like it.

Also this dessert place/cafe has spacious dining area for the public. The wall colour is yellow which makes the room bright and happy. It is located on the busy Robson Street. I hope their business will go well.

Vancouver now has its very own L’Éclair de Génie boutique and I couldn’t be happier!!  I first tried eclairs from L’Éclair de Génie on a family trip to Paris and fell in love.  They are presented artistically and each and everyone of them were so beautiful that it was actually hard for us to choose just 4.  That’s right.  We had 4 in one sitting!!

NOTE: All food and beverages were complimentary, but all opinions are based on my own personal experience. L’Éclair de Génie has finally arrived in Vancouver on Robson Street and is the first boutique in North America. L’Éclair de Génie is a pastry concept started by renowned chef Christophe Adam. L’Éclair de Génie is adored worldwide with 25 boutiques throughout France, Japan, Hong Kong, Italy, and now here in Canada.

Right away, ordering was confusing. There was no menu for you to check before you got to the counter. It was not easy to choose from the 10 different éclairs. Some of the flavour combinations were quite elaborate and their numbering system for each one was no help.

I ordered the Praline Noisette and the Pistachio Framboises. They were each $6.75. I also ordered one of their very cool chocolate spheres since they were on their way to the cash and only cost $1.75. There were also other pastries to choose from but I was good. My order came to $16.

The Pistachio Framboises was stunning! The raspberry was so vibrant and delicious and worked wonders with the pistachio crunch. I was hoping for more pistachio flavour since it is one of my favourites but the raspberry was too overpowering.

The Praliné Noisette with caramel mascarpone cream, hazelnut praline and caramelized hazelnuts was mind-blowingly delicious. That caramel mascarpone cream was a dream!!! I was disappointed about one thing though… Those were NOT caramelized hazelnuts. They were PLAIN roasted hazelnuts so that was a total disappointment.

That caramel chocolate sphere was beautiful! It was exactly as described. A round chocolate that when popped between your teeth dissolves in caramel along with the melting chocolate.

We also tried Vanille Framboise, Chocolat Grand Cru, Citron Yuzu and Sirop D’Erable. The raspberry one was just as described. Delicious but with no surprises. The same went for the Citron Yuzu.

What did surprise us was the Chocolate Grand Cru. The only description for that particular éclair is “chocolate cream” but the term “grand cru” is supposed to hint at being genuinely French chocolate, I think. If that is the case, genuine French chocolate is so bitter and harsh it is no friend of ours. You have to be a big fan of dark chocolate to enjoy that one.

Sadly, the I *HEART* Vancouver éclair was the worst! By far. It was supposed to be filled with maple cream but it had zero flavour. Whatever they used to ice the top and glaze with what looks like glycerine or clear corn syrup also had… no flavour. Pepper said that the chocolate tablet on the front was the best part of the éclair and she was right. Terrible. This one was a total waste of money and offensive to Vancouverites. We are not BORING or FLAVOURLESS!

L’éclair de génie Vancouver is a very modern little spot on Robson with excellent customer service and pretty amazing éclairs. Some better than others. Look forward to them adding more flavours to their menu. For full review visit my site Suzie the Foodie.

Things have gotten sweeter on Robson Street.  L’Éclair de Genie, a Parisian pastry shop that only sells éclairs, has opened their 1st North American retail location at 1210 Robson Street in Vancouver.
