Love the Bao's. If you go, do the combo and get the bao's. Not sure if they're gluten free, but whatever, it's worth a stomach cramp b/c they're really good!
Best happy hour in the city
Gyoza and ramen to die for!!!
Great space and atmosphere
Highly recommend it
Gyoza Bar is a Japanese Style restaurant. Gyoza Bar is located on Pender St, downtown Vancouver. The location is in between Granville and Waterfront Skytrain Stations. There are lots of schools around that area. Because of this, the restaurant always has a huge lineup. I always wanted to try this place before, but I didn’t get a chance.
Finally, last Sunday, my boyfriend and I got a chance, had lunch at Gyoza Bar. It was our first time having food at this place. We had a great experience eating at this place.
We arrived at the restaurant at 12:30 pm since the restaurant just opened. There are no too many people inside the restaurant, which is great. We didn’t wait and got a table right away. Our original plan was to have Dine Out lunch at Gyoza Bar. However, Gyoza Bar didn’t offer the Dine Out Lunch Menu this year. We just order the food from the normal lunch menu instead.
My boyfriend had Pulled Pork Bao Sandwiches and I had Awase Miso Free Range Chicken Ramen.
Pulled Pork Bao Sandwiches $14.5. It made by pickled jalapeno, cucumber, sweet soy glaze, and crispy buns. The quality of this dish was much better than BCplace Pork Bao. The sandwiches were very juicy and delicious. Two bao sandwiches with a side of green salad.
Awase Miso Free Range Chicken Ramen $14.5. Vintage miso based chicken broth topped with Chicken charsiu + tamago. The soup based was awesome. The ramen noodle was a little bit hard. Overall, it’s great and tasty.
Both my boyfriend and I agree that Gyoza Bar lunch menu is perfect for a quick meal before heading back to work. We enjoyed our lunch.
Lots of neat Asian fusion brunch options. Large portions & great flavour pairings (sweet & sour soy-glazed karaage with tartar sauce, Japanese bbq sauce AND Asian coleslaw! 😱😍). Ramen was good, but broth needed more depth. (4/5)
Ramen was pretty good but portion was a tad small. They used a cured ham-like meat which is different from most other ramen places around. Egg was a bit too soft and liquidy inside. Gyoza was good but doesn't stand out much.
Menu is very innovative and food is very flavourful. It's good but I consider it on the pricer side for its portions. Tried Happy Hour and lunch menu here:
- Chicken taco gyoza: You wrap the gyoza in lettuce and eat like a taco. I really like this
- Pork teppan gyoza: Typical gyoza
- Pulled pork bao: One of my favorite. Very flavourful and the bun is very soft and chewy. Meat is tender.
- Chicken wings karaage: Flavourful
- Tomato shio double broth: My first time trying tomato broth with ramen noodles. The broth is a little salty for me, but I liked how it's different from the typical ramen.
I saw a deal on travelzoo and thought I'd give it a try. The coupon came with four appetizers, your choice of gyoza, choice of bao board, and dessert. I read some reviews saying the amount of food isn't really filling. I would have to agree with them on that. The amount of food was a bit on the small side, but they all tasted pretty good. And it was nice to be able to try a variety of dishes.
We tried the chili shrimp teppan gyoza. For me, the gyoza was good but I wish the skin was a little bit crispier on the bottom. The four appetizers we received were the tomato salad, prawn ceviche, chicken wings karaage, and poutine. The tomato salad wasn't anything special but it was refreshing to have given the other things were deep fried. The poutine didn't have that much meat but it was solid poutine. The chicken wings were tasty. Had crispy skin and the flavours reminded me of Korean fried chicken with the sweet soy glaze. The prawn ceviche was alright, but I'm a little biased since I don't really like ceviche to begin with. But the shrimp was pretty good in it. The bao board we chose was the Korean spiced pork rib. It came with 2 baos, some pickled celery, and a sriracha aioli. The ribs already had a lot of sauce on it, so I didn't see much point in the aioli. The ribs were nice and tender and flavourful. I really enjoyed the ribs. However, it wasn't what I expected. Since it was to be eaten with the bao, I thought it would have been cut into smaller pieces already or prepared in a way that makes it easier to eat with the bao. Also, definitely 2 baos were not enough for the amount of ribs we got! They were definitely meaty. For dessert, we had the black sesame ice cream mochi and the green tea cheesecake. These were both delicious. Overall, I thought the food was good and they had great service, but it wasn't amazing. We left feeling still a bit hungry and ended up getting a snack somewhere else. Maybe next time I'll just stick to their ramen.
I found this place because of their dineout menu but I ended up ordering off their happy hour menu. I was pleasantly surprised by the miso tofu salad and it was hands down my favourite dish of the night. The marinated tofu was delicious and it seemed to bring even more freshness to the salad. For a place called the "gyoza" bar, I was dissapointed by their chicken taco gyoza. I just didn't find anything special about it, except they have a great deal that pairs your gyoza with a pint of beer. I also ordered the crispy pork boa but, when given the option to leave it steamed, I went for it. It was absolutely delicious, the bun was light and fluffy and the pork had lots of flavour. I wouldn't hesitate to go back and I might even try another one of their gyozas. Service was impeccable and the space was very relaxing.
Really loved grabbing a drink here with a few friends. Their bar menu has some great small snack options, personally I really enjoyed the tofu, baos, and the brussel sprouts were to die for! Great ambiance and service is super nice! Always grab their sake flight! Great way to try out new stuff! Will come back to try their Gyoza and Ramen some time since they look delicious.
Serving up ramen, tapas and gyozas, Gyoza Bar creates a casual line of eats to its owner’s other Aburi restaurants (Miku and Minami). On this visit, Gyoza Bar’s Head Chef Woo Jin Kim prepared for me a delicious meal, including dishes from the lunch and dinner menu.
○good service
○good atmosphere/rustic feel/ social gathering kind of place
○they do accept reservations for lunch and dinner
○although it's "gyoza" bar, there were only 2 options for gyoza on lunch menu. The pork was better than shrimp
○the chilled ramen was unique, the soup base was cold. Not bad, good to try if you never tried cold soup ramen before.
○Price was high for the value/quality and quantity of the food/ I've tasted better for lower price
○would I go back? Maybe, to try the "bao" next time
Great place to grab a quick lunch. Servers recognize most people need to be in and out within an hour so they help move things along. I tried the Chicken Karrage Bao Buns. It came with two decent size bao buns with a salad for about $13. Buns were fresh, chicken was good size and the coleslaw they add into it added some character. Will come here agin.
