The Basic, formerly Joe’s Grill, is hand’s down the restaurant that impresses me most in Vancouver. It is first and foremost a diner, so take it in that context. They have amazing brunch options and are very good with gluten free options. I remember visiting San Diego’s most hyped downtown brunch diner and it had nothing on the Basic. It’s a no fuss, but also extremely casual and welcoming place. The staff are amazing and it is clear that they have excellent management as most have been around for years. That have a great outdoor patio with heaters and a street side patio in the summer. In fact, I have been so consistently happy with The Basic over the years that during the pandemic I made it a point to give extra large tips to help them out. Now that the pandemic seems to be mostly over and they are getting more business, I’m slowly returning to more regular tips, but remain just as impressed.
If you are looking for a diner or brunch, look no further than The Basic. Thanks so much all the staff!
I really enjoyed the food at The Basic. We had the Eggs Benedict and it was delicious. The service was also really good, quick and efficient. The hostess was hustling around the place, cleaning the tables quickly and getting everyone seated in a timely manner! Nice little patio as well.
Definitely solid! Great breakfast as the name of the establishment says, and super hash browns - grilled. Food and service is super speedy and efficient staff - place was buzzing abound and full for the 45 minutes we were there. 5/5 stars all around 👍
Great atmosphere and food. Beware if you’re vegetarian or vegan. I could taste bacon on my vegetarian meal because I assume the grill is shared. I don’t eat bacon so that was a little off putting but otherwise nothing bad to say.
Me and my husband loved this place soooo much!! My cup of coffee was alway refilled and the food was amazing!!! I had the simply eggs , they were amazing and the potatoes it came with were the perfect kind of crunch and softness I love . My husband had the apple French roast and I had to steal some from his plate !! Amazingly delicious ! Our server was bustling and hustling and kept the place clean and ready for their next customer along with the hostess ! Noticed many repeat clients and that says a lot about how great this place is !!! Robert is a very efficient server and friendly and momo is a very lovely hostess !!!
