Chinese Traditional Bun is unassuming from the outside but makes up for this with delicious and thoughtfully prepared dishes. A couple of us headed here on a cold afternoon last week and the food definitely hit the spot.
The first few dishes we tried were the pan fried dumplings, pan fried pork buns and beef pancakes that were all tasty. The noodle soup also stood out and warmed us up quickly from the frigid weather outside. The lotus salad and sea weed salads were a good addition To cut the heat and cleanse out palates.
But the highlight for me was definitely the fish soup. Served steaming at our table the owner assured us that this was a one of a kind dish and this definitely was. The fish was cooked perfectly and the spicy broth complimented it well. I would also recommend the soup filled dumplings as long as you can master the art of eating them.
All in all it was a well rounded meal that we would return for for the friendly service and to try some of the other items on the menu.

Delicious lunch with friends today in Chinatown at Chinese Traditional Bun. We started with something I would never think to order because of it's name (Black Fungus) but it was a delicious cold app along with the lotus root salad (had a spicy kick to it, super refreshing).
Then we moved onto mini pork sandwiches cut into quarters (the pork was slow roasted and melty as it should be) and round meaty buns. The pork and leek dumplings had a lot of flavour and a good crisp on the outside. Then came a bowl of spicy potato noodles with tofu - holy cow are potato noodles delicious. I've never seen this on an menu before so this was a fun change, the broth was tasty as well.
Then came a huge, beautiful bowl of spicy soup hotpot with fish. It smelled as good as it looked, but wow was it spicy. The broth had beautiful pieces of fish and glass noodles, the dish was amazing on a cold Toronto day like today. Finally, we finished with vegetarian shu mai and soup filled meat buns (loved these, you poke a hole and sip the soup first before chowing down on the meaty bun). Staff was friendly and it was a great lunch overall.
I came to Chinese Traditional Bun a little while ago with pretty high expectations and I'm glad to say this place met them.
The waitress who served me was very nice and attentive.
I ordered variety of dumplings ($6.99) and the pork and shrimp Shao Mai ($5.99).
I've had really good dumplings before in Scarborough and this place was almost as good.
The dumplings made for a delicious lunch, but there were a few things that could have been improved.
I thought the wrapper on the dumplings was a little too thick, the meat could have been more flavourful, and the dumplings stuck to the paper.
The shrimp tails were not taken off in the pork and shrimp shao mai, but I was relieved to see the shrimp were deveined. I might have just ordered the wrong thing but I believe this place has much more potential.
I will be back to try their other delicious food items.
