Came here with a friend for post-dinner treats on a Thursday evening. I got the grass jelly roasted milk tea with less sugar and less ice. The taste was unique and I enjoyed the subtle flavour of the roasted rice.
However, I disliked that the music was so loud in the seating area. My friend and had a hard time talking to and hearing each other, which really took away from the experience.
Great place for tea time. Hangout with your friends. Chill out for study time. And have a drink!
Love this place. Why get a slushie if you can get a blended ice tea?
The Chatime Annex location took over the old “Say Cheese shop” on Bloor St., right by the St. George subway and the University of Toronto. With ample seating space, this location is going to be the HOT spot for bubbletea lovers!
At the media launch for the store, I got to meet Kenton Chan who brought Chatime to Toronto. Kenton and his business partner Thomas Wong who are the Chatime representatives in Ontario are young and passionate entrepreneurs who are knowledgeable about their teas and passionate about Chatime. They got more expansions in the pipeline so look out for more Chatime locations in Ontario. I wonder if they need a third business partner?! (*hint hint)
Chatime 日出茶太 is always packed throughout the day (especially this location nearby U of T), be prepare to wait for at least ten minutes for this Taiwanese chain bubble tea. My favourite is their matcha red bean milk tea with less sugar. For the classic milk tea, instead of putting tapioca, I always ask them to put pudding instead. They always have promotions of new bubble tea, so you would never be disappointed when you step in.

Chatime recently opened another location in the Annex and I went with my friend Janice to celebrate the launch of their new store! In Toronto, there's basically a bubble tea shop everywhere you look. What really sets Chatime apart from all the other bubble tea shops is its strong tea taste, creamy milk teas and the ability to customize the sugar and ice levels (like Starbucks, but for bubble tea!). If you have ever experienced the line ups at other Chatime locations, it is clear that bubble tea is alive and well in Toronto after all these years.
We sampled about 13 different drinks from their menu, ranging from the most popular drinks to hidden gems that people tend not to order. Like everyone else waiting in those Chatime lines, I usually order grass jelly roasted milk tea 99.5% of the time! The owners made it a point to highlight some of the other delicious drinks Chatime carries. The highlight for me were the red bean milk tea and the tea espressos, which actually have no espresso in it but are brewed to order in a speciality espresso machine. I also really enjoyed the Wintermelon Milk Tea with Mousse. The Wintermelon tea is refreshing and goes surprisingly well with the savoury Mousse that covers the top 1/3 of the drink. Don't mistake the mousse for regular foam, as it is a delicious sweet and savoury treat on its own.
What's better than a regular Chatime bubble tea? A GIANT Chatime bubble tea cake. The best part of the afternoon was having a bite of that giant Chatime cake!! It was a deliciously moist chocolate cake with green tea buttercream.
The Chatime Annex location is now open for business. It is located near St. George station, so it can be expected that hordes of students from U of T will be getting their bubble tea fix in between classes!

What makes Chatime stand out?
For me, I enjoy the smooth consistency of the tea (not the grainy powdered taste from some of the tea shops) and their specialty flavours including roasted milk tea, matcha red bean milk tea and lychee black/green tea. Their bubbletea is pricier than many of their competition (my average spend is about $5 per visit) but the taste and quality had surpassed many bubbleteas I have tried before. I don’t have the funds to drink Chatime everyday but it’s definitely a treat when I crave bubbletea.
The drink tastes good because Chatime focuses on the quality of the teas. The teas are imported from Taiwan and carefully selected from their tea farm. The equipment they have ensures precise timing and temperature to brew the tea. Chatime is also the first bubbletea shop to allow for customization of the sugar levels and ice levels.

About 15 bloggers and I got to sample a variety of teas from their signature milk teas, special mixed teas, mousse/lattes and their fresh tea leaf teas. I have never had so much bubbletea in my life! I was hyper from the drinks for the rest of the day.

-Taro milk tea with pudding. The grainy texture in taro drink is from using real taro.

-Wintermelon milk tea with mousse. I normally have wintermelon is soups but this is a treat as a tea.

-Hazlenut chocolate milk tea
-Brown rice green milk tea
-Matcha red bean milk tea with tapioca. The chunky red beans were tasty.
Fresh tea:
-Taiwan Alishan JinShuan
-Japanese Sakura Senchan
They were all great in their own way. Rather than getting my usual roasted milk tea, I may change things up on my next visit with my favourites of the tasting. I loved the matcha red bean and their fresh tea selections. The Japanese Sakura Sencha was fragrant with a strong tea flavour without being bitter.
As the store will officially open to the public on September 8th, 2014, we had a celebratory cake for the media launch! How cute is this cake made by Kelly’s Baked Goods?!
