We’ve been meaning to try Sunshine Spot for a while. Those who know us will know why. 😀 Today we were in the area for a minor shopping excursion, and we stopped in just before 1 pm for lunch. The restaurant was mostly full, so we had to wait a couple of minutes for them to prepare a table.
The restaurant is long and narrow, made even narrower by the open kitchen halfway along one of the long walls. We were seated right across from the kitchen, where we had a direct view of the hustle and bustle. The expected commotion and noise was made worse by the table right behind me, where the four young men were having a loud, boisterous, profanity-laced conversation. They forgot to bring their inside voices.
The menu features lots of breakfast choices, and also has sandwiches and salads. SWMBO chose the BLT Sandwich, a simple classic. Nothing special, but done right.
I stayed with the breakfast section, building my own Omelette. For $10.99, it came with 3 eggs, and a choice of 3 ingredients from a list of 15: Cheese, mushrooms, eggplant. It also came with potatoes and toast. The omelette was good and filling.
Service was just okay.
I love Sunshine spot. I've been coming here for years and they operate like a well oiled machine.
I shared their special, which included home-fries, sausage, bacon, 4 eggs and toast, with my mother. We ordered ham instead of the sausage and they happily applied the substitution for us for no extra charge.
My sister ordered their eggs Benedict because they have the best hollandaise sauce there.
Our meal was filling and tasty. Sunshine Spot manages to nail it every time. It's simple but good.
The Sunshine Spot is this small restaurant serving up brunch options like an All-Day Breakfast for $7.99 or little specialties like eggs benedict, french toast, and breakfast tacos/sandwiches. This place is only open for breakfast and lunch so as soon as the sun sets, you're out of luck. The menu options are plentiful and they have weekend specials like the Big Big (Breakfast for the big boys...and girls).
Speaking of which, the gf ordered the Big Big ($12.50) which is 4 eggs, 3 bacon strips, 3 sausages, homefries, toast, and your choice of french toast or pancake. I opted for the eggs benedict with steak ($12.99) and despite how good the Big Big looked, I think I made the right choice.
The Steak Eggs Benedict was something I'd been looking for for quite some time. Steak and eggs are God's gift in breakfast form. Throw in the fact that you have poached eggs drizzled in hollandaise and sitting atop an English muffin makes it that much better. The steak is a whole ny striploin though so none of that fancy cut steak strips. The eggs were done perfectly and the hollandaise was good. The muffin was barely capable of holding the beast though so they're gonna need a stronger base. The home fries are whatever. Just normal potatoes with no secret spices or anything.
You can also get freshly squeezed orange juice here along with some damn good food. For the limitless number of brunch spots in downtown Toronto, it's nice to find a decent one uptown in this area. The place looks rather small but is deceptively spacious. Definitely make your way over if you're in the area and want some brunch (that isn't dim sum).
Nice cozy spot. Portions are really good. A lot of bacon in the all day breakfast. Turkey bacon is one of the better ones I've had. Recommended for diner breakfast.

Been coming here for many years now. Despite the new menu and the removal of some old favorites it's still the go to place for breakfast/brunch. Great fluffy pancakes & standard breakfast items. Best part...they have a fresh orange juice machine. The portions are still good size. Our table is usually over flowing with food (we only order 1 menus item per person). Yes, the prices have gone up a bit but let's be real, the prices of everything has been going up for a while now. They need to cover their overhead too.
If you like the whole greasy spoon/diner type place, you might like this place.
Perfect!. I was on vacation in Toronto, stopped here to eat, and was shocked to find I had a new favorite breakfast spot and that it's a 12 hour drive from my house. The service was great, the Orange Juices was freshly squeezed when I ordered, my food came out super fast, and then the food was Delicious. I wish I lived in Toronto just so I could eat there every day.
It's breakfast uptown!. Leslie and Sheppard area.
Good for a breakfast diner and prices are reasonable. The eggs benedict with peameal bacon was ok, eggs were a little more medium rather than easy (runny yolk) but the cut of the peameal was thick and wasn't dry.
Their homefries are homemade, and always a good thing when its yourself that's seasoning it to your taste.
Next time, I'll attempt to 'create my sandwich' which is part of the menu.
My wife and I went to Sunshine Spot for first time on a snowy Sunday midDecember. Despite the road conditions the place was more than half full at 9:00am. We found service excellent, food good to very good, prices fair, portions appropriate, good atmosphere homey and family friendly. Coffee was decent for a diner even the decaf. Both had selections off Benedict menu and will so so again next time when we will take the kids. Good spot.
Solid breakfast spot. I had the scrambler and it was prepared perfectly. Will return again.
