FANTASTIC RESTAURANT BRAVO BRAVO INCREDIBLE FOOD BEST DINNER ON THE PLANET GREAT PEOPLE A LITTLE DIAMOND IN THE ROUGH
A MUST STOP FOR A FANRASTIC ECONOMICAL MEAL
Entering a Time Warp (of amazingness). No nonsense old fashioned breakfast at its best. Hipsters beware as this is the real deal without the moustches or fixies (or $14 pancakes)! The food is simple and well done at prices that reflect its 60+ year beginnings. A must try (and see for yourself).
1950 Lives On...
You know we all love food, and we al generally get nostalgi at times.
I can remember as a kid going to Woolco & Woolworth's on the weekend.
I always got to sit in these big shiny booths.
I can still remember the feeling I had when I finally got to sit at the counter on the swivel stools.
I was finally a big kid.
Nowadays, when I hear about a "vintage" or "Old School" themed restaurant I tend to want to check it out.
Make no mistake, these places, no matter how great they may be will never be the original.
They can't be, cause they are knock-offs.
Although its been said, Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.
I was looking around online, when I stumbled upon Downsview Restaurant.
I could not find much about it,
That raised my curiosity, in the day and age of the internet & social media,
I was sure someone would have something to say.
There are restaurants out there who rely on a funky decor to mask poor food quality and/or service.
I don't need bells and whistles, just good food, and friendly staff.
Downsview Restaurant opened in 1950... Math peeps...that is 62 years...
First thign I notice when you walk in, it looks like it is frozen in time...
That scores bonus points for me.
I like authentic.
AND I like the 50's.
Betty & Bill are the owners. Betty is the lovable waitress dressed in 50's attire.
Bill looks like a typical diner cook from the 50's.
They bother are up their in their years. (which to me makes this place even more endearing)
They've been married longer then I've been alive (adorable couple)
Now let's get to the food,
I ordered a banquet burger, fully loaded with bacon, the burger comnes with fries & cole slaw.
Sorry Nana, but this was the best cole slaw I've ever eaten.
The burger was amazing, fresh, tasty...
Fries are fries...umm...no... these fries were amazing, smothered in old school style gravy, yummy, yummy, yummy...
Price, 6.50...
Yeah, I love that price, love the decor and loved the experience...
This will be a regualr stop on the Monster Appetite World Tour :P
I really do hope EVERYONE who read this, checks this place out...
