At Bong Lua again today, and straying away from my usual order… I’ve decided to try their popular Crab Vermicelli which most Yelpers have been talking about on their reviews. I decided to give it a go since the pictures taken look pretty damm awesome and I enjoy eating crab🙂. The noodles took longer than usual, and I believe it’s because of the preparation that goes into this order. It took maybe about 15 minutes for this baby to come out of the kitchen and onto my table.
My favourite pho restaurant. Their spring rolls are super big compared to any other restaurant I've been to. Pad Thai didn't disappoint at all and the pho was my fav. Hot and tasty broth and the noodles were nice and chewy. Yum!
I swear this little Vietnamese joint has only three staff. Service is mega slow but the food is worth the wait. The crab soup and chilli fried fish vermicelli are delightful!
Wow this small shop is full of people at 6pm. And there is a long line ...
Perhaps I came here with some of my Vietnamese friends, they ordered some interesting dishes that I never tried before.
I don't know all the names of these dishes but they taste good.
Highlights
Crab noodles - they have real crab with shell inside! The soup tastes good.
Raw beef noodles - the soup base is good. There are a lot of beef slices but they are well done when the bowl is in front of me. Think they were really busy and the beef set in the soup for a while.
Well, I will come back. 😊
Tips: pleas make reservation if you do not wait... 😝
This is a really tiny Vietnamese spot at Birchmount/Huntingwood and we come here relatively often. The owners know my parents/family, and they speak Cantonese too!. Be wary if you want to visit them on a Tuesday – because they’re closed!. If you’ve been following me, you know that I looove spicy food. This probably derives from my background and upbringing from my parents.. so no doubt, the entire meal today will be spicy gaaalooorreee! *yum*
Bong Lua is a Vietnamese restaurant located in the same plaza as Hunter's Pizza and Chris Jerk. Though, there looks to be lots of food options available, this place is probably the best option there. The menu has all sorts of items and the prices are pretty good as well. Place is rather small, so not ideal for large groups, but pretty good if you want to eat by yourself.
I ordered the shredded pork roll as an appetizer to go along with my Three Items Combo ($8). The shredded pork roll is a fresh roll that is wrapped in rice paper and is stuffed with lettuce, mint leaves, and shredded pork. Surprisingly, there is no rice vermicelli, which meant for filling, but honestly, I missed the vermicelli.
The Three Items Combo allows you to pick three items from a set menu and pair it with rice, noodle, vermicelli, etc. There are items on the list including shredded pork, spring roll, grilled meats, etc. I went with an all meat lineup of grilled pork, chicken, and beef. The meats themselves were stellar, though not as large as had hoped. The lemongrass flavor always kicks some serious ass though and the portion along with the rice was more than enough to warrant a nap.
Service was friendly and the place is clean. There were lots of people just eating with no people talking, which I found eerily comforting. Will definitely be back to try the Pho and knowing that I live closer to this place as well.
Don't let the look of the place fool you. It may be small but it is great. The service is amazing. There are not many places left where they patiently explain the dishes to help you choose. The food is great and the price just right.
This is what you call a real Vietnamese restaurant! Authentic pho, rolls, rice dishes, and other appetizers! I absolutely LOVE this place! They are seriously legit! Just like how the previous reviewer said, it is the most authentic Viet restaurant in Scarborough (mostly in the East end). Don't expect this place to be a 5 star hotel restaurant because it isn't! It's tiny, and a very typical Asian restaurant, except that the service is quite pleasant every time my boyfriend and I go. You will not regret it if you try!
Great crab soup. Bong Lua is located in a strip mall and there is lots of free parking.
We started with a chicken spring roll and I had the chicken Pho soup. What was interesting is that the side plate had both green and purple cabbage as well as the normal bean sprouts and lime. I’ve never seen that before. It was a good addition in the soup. Our server was so funny telling us the XL was really big and checked how much I finished at the end. She’s very nice and may even be the owner. She recommended the sweet and sour crab noodle soup with tomato. That was a real surprise with such amazing flavour. I’m glad we tried something different and I would recommend it over the normal Pho soup. It’s my new favourite soup and I’ll be back to have it again soon.
Special House Pho Large ($6.50) is huge... I wish I ordered the small. Enjoyed how the raw beef is really raw... but the broth is not hot enough. I found the broth a little bland and lack any complexity.
A family owned restaurant so it does have a really friendly vibe....
I have been here since it opens so many times, at least once a month.
One of the most authentic Vietnamese Restaurants in Scarborough!
