Ate the appetizer eggs which were very tasty and well cooked. The laksa was also very nice and rich. This street has amazing food! My friends had the wings, noodles and some other dish which all looked amazing.
This place has some really great Asian inspired menu items, as well as cocktails. Had the cucumber salad and curry soup with chicken, and the person I was with ordered the pineapple pork. Everything we ordered was done really well, and all the drinks were great! Would definitely go back.
I’d walked past Hawker Bar once or twice before and had the opportunity to go one Friday night, I was excited to try their wings and their son in law eggs, two dishes id been seeing a lot of on social media. I went with a friend and we ordered the son in law eggs, the chicken satay special, the wings and the red duck curry.
Love at first bite! Experience flavours of the heavens right here on planet Toronto, delivered in a hip and friendly fashion.
Hawker Bar for life! ✌
Terrific Food, friendly service. Hawker Bar has the best chicken wings I have ever eaten. Their son-in-law eggs were interesting, the prawn and ginger dumplings just fine, but go for a whole pound of the singapore sweet chili soy glazed chicken wings. Their daily specials are always good. My husband and I couldn't decide if the lamb shank curry (his choice) was better than the beef cheek rendang (my choice). They both had wonderful flavour. The laksa was ok, as were the noodles, but the specials outshine the regular menu. This food deserves beer; ignore the cocktails. Prices are reasonable. Service is excellent. Street parking is a matter for prayer, but worth the attempt.
Just Okay. I had high hopes for this place as beef rendang is one of my all time favourites. It was okay but my homemade rendang is superior! The laksa and cocktails were okay but to be honest, I really don't see myself returning. My boyfriend however loved the laksa the first time he went and already went back to try the rendang for himself. Great service.
Had the Prawn and Ginger Dumplings, Singapore Noodles, and Whole Fried Sea Bream! DELICIOUS!!! Especially the sea bream!
Good for lunch!. So we went here for lunch... and the Laksa yellow curry with chicken (we each got the medium size $10) was just about one of the best things I've ever tasted! It's a GIANT bowl with super-flavorful, and just spicy enough yellow coconut curry, chicken, tofu, a hard-boiled egg, water chesnuts, bamboo, eggplant and lots of noodles.
I have a fairly good appetite and had to take more than half of it home (same with my friend). So we were pleasantly surprised. They flavors are wonderful and just the right amount of spice.
We were pretty much the only customers inside, but the space is a bit tight. There are wooden tree stumps to sit on, while creative, might be a pain for people with back issues. We didn't try a cocktail, but they were a bit pricey.
Anyway, this place also has the SAME lunch and dinner menus. (main dishes besides the laksa curry are $14+!) Since they're open for lunch, it would be great to see a separate lunch menu, since the food is good. Considering most of the specialty restaurants in the area have separate (i.e. cheaper!) lunch options, it would be best if Hawker can offer the same.
3 Great Things About Hawker Bar. This place will stick out in the Ossington strip for three reasons:
1) They have a sign outside that clearly states that they serve alcohol and food until 2am!
2) The servers are so funny and welcoming
3) Their tofu & wings totally hit the spot. Flavourful, affordable, and fantastic.
P.S. Only drink Evan's Revenge if you like a good, swift kick in your alcoholic beverage!
Spontaneos Visit, Surprising Results!. Spontaneous Queen Street food crawl started at Hawker Bar! The friendly staff and cool decor was a good first sign. ( Although when they get their liquor license they will be hard to stay on) We started with the Son-In-Law eggs. DELISH! they dont have that food where we come from! We also started with pork saatay with peanut sauce- so many flavours! Our mains we the Laksa soup ( have pepto handy if your sensitive to spice) and the Ox tail which was outrageously fabulous. \For desert.... fried bananas and ice cream!!! NomNomNOm the bananas were bright green, DEFINITELY not around where we come from. Two country thumbs up
