I'm forever a slave to their chicken katsu meal. There's got to be some serious sorcery going on in their food, but I love it. The preparation, presentation, and price are all on point (lots of P's going on...did not intend on that). The food is more than great but I do have to mention that it really erks me that they only accept cash (2015 means nothing to them). Regardless definitely a place you need to check it out when you're in the area!
Good. This small hole in the wall, cash only Japanese restaurant does not look like anything special from the street. Having walked by it hundreds of times over my life time, I was introduced to Tokyo Grill by friends. The place looks tiny from the entrance, however there are seats in the back (past the kitchen). The soft spoken server is welcoming in their very shy manner. The menu is not your typical fare..no sushi or sashimi to be found. Mostly ramen, udon and don dishes....comfort foods that are perfect for a chilly day.
The food arrives promptly and is rather well done. Perhaps not as good as a couple of years ago..but still delicious. Had the oyako don which was good. The chicken was not deep fried which I appreciate but the egg could have been less cooked. Was a nice Sunday treat with friends. Will be heading back for sure in the winter for a big bowl of udon. YUM
I always enjoy Tokyo Grill ! It's not fancy at all but the food always satisfies. I work for a Japanese company and this is their spot for food like home. Prices are great for Japanese food. Service is clunky but friendly and instantly forgivable.
Expensive for the portions but still pretty good.. The portions are way too small!
But the Donburis are pretty good.
I did takeout twice at this place, I was recommended by a friend, saying that this place is authentic jap food. First of all, I really like the food even though it's a little bit pricy. But I HATE THE SERVICE. Yes, bad service even I only did takeout! I ordered salmon teriyaki and I asked for the price. The server chekced and still told me the wrong price. Fine. She didn't tell me on phone that there's extra charges for takeout. Fine. I got there and was ready to get my food. There were two servers standing at the counter. And then one server gave me the wrong bill. Whatever. She almost gave me the wrong change (she had to redo it). The servers really need to be trained, I got really angry about the service. This is one restaurant where there's good food but bad service.
Awesome ramen and soup noodle dishes. Not ur typical fancy sushi place.
Hidden Gem. This is for sure the best hidden gem of Japanese cuisine in Toronto ...yes, they don't have much sushi but their dons and udons, are superb ......try their katsudon or katsu curry ..... extremely authentic .....their Eb-Fry is also excellent and one of the best valued Ebi-Frys you will ever find ....most places charge at least $15+ if not more, this place is only $10 and they are GOOD ...trust me ...read my other reviews on other Japanese restaurants
A nice place to pop in if you're in the area, short on time and feel like having non-fussy wholesome food. Or if you feel like having Hiyashi Chuka in the summer as not a lot of places have this dish. Not good if you're trying to impress or if someone in your group wants 'mainstream Japanese food' like sushi and sashimi. Also not good if you're really really hungry or have a big appetite.
I like this place for having good service and food. The waitress is always so kind and the Katsu Curry tastes so different from the others I've had elsewhere. it's probably because of the hint of pepper that they use or because of the soft and juicy chicken. So I will go back for sure.
