Decor is just awful, but take time to get past the incredibly outdated and run-down surroundings, and you'll find its well-prepared food with attentive and swift service. Bison burger is astonishingly juicy. Wings and fish and chips are cooked really well. Sides are taken seriously - fries are seasoned, and salads have a great dressing and a lovely candied cashew topping.
We've wanted to try the Brunch here for a while now. In the past, we'd go on a Sunday but for one reason or another, the brunch menu wasn't available. I'm glad to say that today we broke the curse!
I had an Old Speckled Hen, and the Wife had a Ceasar (spicy). Both were good. The OSH was flavourful and robust, her Ceasar was well balanced and had the right amount of heat.
For brunch I ordered Henry's Breakfast (3 eggs, bacon, sausage, beans, a grilled tomato and toast) with my eggs scrambled, and the Wife got Pancakes with Blueberry compot, Maple Syrup, bacon, Vanilla Whipped Cream and fruit. All I can say is Yummy! The food was really good - don't forget about the bottemless cups of coffeee too! It's step up from other breakfasty chains (some of which I've reviewed), yet in the same price range, and with the added bonus of booze! All items were
well cooked, and had the right amount of grease for a Sunday morning.
King Henry's selection of alcohol is long and very good. I will review it at some point, but if you're feeling like a good breakfast/brunch on a weekend, with seemingly endless whiskey and beer options, go west friends!
Excellent food - warm quinoa salad, awesome curry and THE BEST CIDER on tap!! We go at least twice a month!
Legit English Pub. Possibly the best pub in the neighborhood. Great vibe, good selection of wine & beers. Creative specials. Staff is fun and personable. Recommended to anyone who wants an authentic English pub experience.
Good Bloor West Village pub. We tried this place during the Christmas holidays for brunch and a drink and really enjoyed it. The food is very good, we had a prime rib sandwich and a salad. I tried the house beer and it's not bad. We'll be going back.
Still talking about it!. My husband and I enjoyed our first visit there at the beginning of October...We had the most awesome Poutine imaginable - an osso bucco Poutine dish! It was so rich, the quebec cheese was a perfect match! What a delight. It was busy and there was really only one wait staff on the floor - she deserves a medal. She was fantastic! Thanks!
I love King Henry VIII because the food is REALLY good and I recommend you going there!!!!And it is local
Fabulous food, great beers on tap, and wonderful staff...what more could you want...except perhaps a bit more square footage. That, however, is what makes this neighbourhood destination so warm and charming!
More then just great beer. One of my favourite pubs to go to especially now they have Old Speckled Hen back on tap. But the food really makes this place one of the best pubs in town. I haven't had a disappointing meal there yet after numerous visits.
After Gord and I left the Toronto Ukrainian Festival, we had supper at the Henry VIII Ale House, which was just outside of the festival.
We started with Roasted Garlic and Chipotle Hummus ... it was so yummy! Gord ordered Fish and Chips ... he got it the last time and said it was good. I was in the mood for chicken wings minus the blue cheese dipping sauce (I don't like blue cheese) ... I ordered them medium and they were hot enough. There were ten in the order and they were a good size. I'd order them again.
Our server was Kristen and she took good care of us.
