Authentic Chinese food..! Loved the old school set up and the teapot left on each table.

One thing both my parents and my in-laws have in common is a love for Sichuan cuisine. This year for Father’s Day, The Hubby and I enjoyed two delicious, mouth numbing, meals. One with my parents, at one of our favourite Mississauga restaurants, and then the following night at a new-to-us restaurant in Markham, Szechuan Legend. With the great meal we had there with my in-laws, I can’t wait to introduce the restaurant to my parents next time.

Really starting to dig Sichuan food.

Szechuan Legend is this restaurant located in a rather large strip plaza with quite a bit of options in the dining department. This place is rather nice looking inside and it's got quite the large menu (with lots of pictures for those who are visually impressionable). The options are mainly Northern Sichuan dishes that tend to be more on the spicy side of things. The prices are nice too as most dishes hover around $10 a dish, while portions make you feel as though it should have been more.

We ordered up the Fish in Pickled Vegetable Pot, Beef in Chili Oil, Noodles with Minced Beef, and Spicy Glass Noodles in Chili Oil. Disclaimer: I am describing these dishes as I do not recall the names of each one, so apologies up front. The fish with pickled veggies was a favorite as we order it quite a bit at other places (interchangeable with the Sichuan oil fish as well). This dish was nice as the fish was flakey tender, while the broth was pickle-y and not overly spicy, but still had a nice kick. There are slices of tofu as well that just soaks up all the broth like a very tasty sponge (though a sponge isn't the tastiest sounding word I could have used there).

The other dishes were more appetizers than entrees as the beef slices in chili oil was supposed to be small, but definitely could pass as an entree based on portion size. They were cut very thinly and the chili oil, though spicy, was oh so tasty. They're also some peanuts floating in the oil if you like some, but they are spicy. The glass noodles were just oily and slippery so I don't bother eating too much of that as the oil just slides down your throat. The noodles with minced beef were great though as they had a strong peanut taste. Not as spicy as it should be, but that made it taste better to me.

Free underground parking for those who simply can't find (or will not deal with) parking in the lot. The service is quick and friendly. The place is nice and clean, and the reason I bring that up is because I'm used to places being sticky and a bit gross (don't know why that is...). For the portions, prices, and service, I'm definitely going to be making my way back more than once.

On a cold winter's night, there is nothing more satisfying than cuddling up besides a spicy dish (cue the giggles). That's what this place and its menu is all about. The decor will not blow you away but their chili peppers will! I ordered a Dan Dan Noodle, General Tao's Chicken, and a spicy Won-ton. The noodle was really authentic, well complimented with some ground beef and veggies. The flavor was one of a kind. The Won-ton was soaked in an aromatic chili oil based sauce that made me cough and made me reach for my tea to douse off the flames. The General's chicken was done right, crispy on the outside it practically melted in my mouth and the sweet sauce was simply marvelous. It is a must try if you are a fan of the spicy cuisine.
