Amazing food with friendly staff. The owner always stops to chat with us. The staff know the menu inside and out and the food is to die for. I always look forward to my next meal at India Gate Restaurant!!!!
Curry Houses are a way of life in the UK, so I like to think that I know my way around the many tastes that Indian cuisine has to offer, and I’ve eaten curries all over the world. The food here is phenomenal, and it’s not about the heat but about all the wonderful flavours that the chef can conjure up. It’s a pleasure to eat at India Gate, something I’ve been doing for over 20 years and I believe the food is better now than it’s ever been. I wish I could eat there daily

Feeling the need to escape the house on a Friday night, we walked to the downtown area for a nice meal.
Having remember the last time we did this and finding the doors to India Gate closed for renovations, we thought we would try again. To our pleasant surprise, the restaurant was open and quite full. Fortunately, there was a table for two!
Our servers were very professional and we were well attended for our meal. For those still concerned with Covid, all servers wore masks.
We ordered the Dinner for Two which came with one choice of appetizer but with two plates ( this is confusing in the menu), two selections of meat dishes, a vegetarian plate, one of the simple rices and garlic naan.
We did find the cost rather expensive having recently eaten a Dinner for Four at an Indian Restaurant in Halifax for the same we paid for two here. That said, our meal was quite good and one of the better I’ve had recently.
It was a little perturbing and presumptuous that a 15% tip was automatically added to the bill. While I didn’t mind tipping, it should not be presumed that I will. Image if our service would have been poor and I had to ask to have the tip removed from our bill.
Anyway, it was a wonderful meal with a wonderful decor and wonderful service. I would return.
Great ambiance. Superb service.
The food was fantastic. A bit spicy. But served so warm and with such care that I definitely over ate.
While we waited for the food the staff brought out some papadam. They brought it out. With a mango chutney that was mouth watering. As well as a tomato option others at the table gravitated towards.
We tried the spicy paneer appetizer.
Onion Bhaji.
The laccha parantha and tandoori Roti were well prepared.
The dal and saag were really good but a bit spicy.
Definitely worth a try.
I loved this place😍🤤try their butter chicken. Good for dining.
Love this place. Been coming here for over 20 years and the experience gets better every time. Restaurant is spotless, the staff is great and the food is the best I have had all over Canada. Would 100% recommend!!!
Love this place, my favourite Indian resto in St. Johns. The Lamb Vindaloo is actually pretty spicy, I find most "spicy" dishes in NL are not spicy at all. All the dishes I've tried have been very tasty. The naan is exceptional, crisp, with a light, fluffy interior. They also have Kingfisher, which is necessary when having a curry. 😁
