decent food, great ambience, attentive service, looks like lots nice wine too (I don't drink). A must go place when you visit Richmond. Some of my fav was waygu nigiri, a pork slice dish that I forgot the name😅. Don't forget to try their sesame ice-cream😋😋😋!
Great place! Sashimi is fresh and oishi sushi is to die for. Highly recommend this place 👍🏻
Kitcho Izakaya 吉兆居酒屋 is located at a small plaza across Real Canadian Superstore on No 3 Road in Richmond. It is pretty hidden at the corner of the plaza. You should look for a sign and walk down a corridor for getting to its entrance.
They don't serve wasabi like most places. You might have to ask the server if you need extra wasabi. Chef makes fresh wasabi, and he suggests to put the smallest amount on top of the fish if adding extra wasabi (rather than mixing wasabi into the soy sauce). Typical Japanese style.
After tasting the Kinmedai (Golden Eye Snapper/Splendid Alfonsino) 金目鯛 and Hokkaido uni 馬糞海膽 sashimi, I don't want to try others. 💞💞💞Presentation of Chef's Sashimi was amazing! 😍
A hidden gem. It is a definite must go Japanese restaurant in Richmond. 👍

To me, an izakaya is a gastropub: a place to pair alcohol with small bites. Kitcho Izakaya doesn’t quite resemble my notions of that, but they do offer a rather expansive menu with Japanese food that is generally executed fairly well.
it was a very busy friday night so service was a little slow. I ordered the assorted tempura, assorted sashimi and a rainforest roll. everything was tasty and fresh. the rainforest roll had a bit of an interesting tangy flavor from the mayo that seemed to go well with the kiwi and shrimp.
Friendly service, fresh ingredients directly imported from Japan. Great sushi for an Izakaya. Their Kushi is also great quality. Will recommend.

To me this is a gem holding its own amongst the influx of high turnover bubble tea cafes and hot pot rivalries. MUCH luv to Kitcho and our server for their ‘open til midnight!’ hours and their hustle in handling rowdy late nite hangry-ness with a ton of Izakaya menu items. Our group loved everything we ordered and found the prices reasonable, altho I did wish they had less expensive sake. Free parking and a lot of spaces in their lot, entrance around the corner from Boiling Point.
One of the more luxurious Izakaya's in Richmond and for a reason. As this review will be short and sweet, it is one of our go to places for sushi. I went with a couple colleagues and ended up staying all night. Can't name all the things we had as there was too much to remember but here are a couple photos of what makes this place a must try. Sake does that to you...
A hidden gem in Richmond! Their menu includes a wide variety of classic Japanese foods, from sashimi, maki (rolls), to robata (barbecued skewers), and other grilled seafood. This was the chef’s special (omakase) sashimi platter of the night, featuring kinki fish (red snapper), mirugai (geoduck), chutoro (medium fatty tuna belly).
They are also well known for their daily and weekly specials. You will see the crab motoyaki (crab, mushrooms all baked in a mayonnaise-based sauce) here, which was wonderfully done, incredibly decadent and delicious.
The only caveat is that it tends to be a pricey meal — Be prepared to spend quite a bit here!
This is place really good if you love eating Japanese food. All the ingredient that they use are really fresh! Is definitely one of my top Japanese restaurant in Vancouver.
The place is cozy, and the food is delicious. For some reason the female waitress tend to forget about our sake order and bringing over the bill when asked for it. But the male waiter rectify the situation very quickly. I highly recommend the Foie Gras toast, and beef sashimi - very tender and juicy. I would definitely come again.
Pretty great izakaya, chef recommended fish and crab was both sashimi'ed and then leftovers cooked in a pot with veggies and noodles into a stew. Foie gras toast was pretty on point. Great value compared to HK.
